Book Renewable Energy Auctions Lessons from the Global South

Download or read book Renewable Energy Auctions Lessons from the Global South written by and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable Energy Auctions provides an overview of renewable energy auctions globally, focusing on the Global South, since this is where auctions have been pioneered and provided most transformative results. Renewable energy auctions have become the dominant method for contracting utility-scale renewable energy projects, in large part due to the cost-efficient tariffs secured through this method. The ascent of auctions has been particularly rapid and transformative in the Global South, where many countries have secured renewable energy supplies at record-breaking prices. This book analyses the experiences of frontier auction markets in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and India, with the aim of improving how auctions are designed and implemented globally. The book goes beyond the topic of auction design - which is concerned with the micro-economics of design choices - to include auction implementation. Across ten chapters, the authors argue that choices around the auction implementing institution and the procurement process are overlooked in most publications on the subject, yet this is often a key factor for determining outcomes. Moving beyond the program level of analysis (auction design and implementation), the book includes both country and project level factors' impacts on auction outcomes, ultimately highlighting that successful price and investment outcomes are dependent upon integration of all three levels of auction design and implementation.

Book RE Data Explorer Use of the Tool to Support Renewable Energy Auctions Processes

Download or read book RE Data Explorer Use of the Tool to Support Renewable Energy Auctions Processes written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable energy auctions are now a common competitive approach to procure low-cost renewable power around the world. Ensuring a successful auction process increasingly depends on the capabilities of auction designers and participants to pull actionable and defensible insights from large datasets (on renewable energy resources and complementary data) to both attract potential investors and address stakeholder concerns. The Renewable Energy (RE) Data Explorer is a user-friendly geospatial analysis tool for analyzing renewable energy potential and informing decisions.

Book Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models

Download or read book Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models written by Thomas W. Yee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-11 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a greatly enlarged statistical framework compared to generalized linear models (GLMs) with which to approach regression modelling. Comprising of about half-a-dozen major classes of statistical models, and fortified with necessary infrastructure to make the models more fully operable, the framework allows analyses based on many semi-traditional applied statistics models to be performed as a coherent whole. Since their advent in 1972, GLMs have unified important distributions under a single umbrella with enormous implications. However, GLMs are not flexible enough to cope with the demands of practical data analysis. And data-driven GLMs, in the form of generalized additive models (GAMs), are also largely confined to the exponential family. The methodology here and accompanying software (the extensive VGAM R package) are directed at these limitations and are described comprehensively for the first time in one volume. This book treats distributions and classical models as generalized regression models, and the result is a much broader application base for GLMs and GAMs. The book can be used in senior undergraduate or first-year postgraduate courses on GLMs or categorical data analysis and as a methodology resource for VGAM users. In the second part of the book, the R package VGAM allows readers to grasp immediately applications of the methodology. R code is integrated in the text, and datasets are used throughout. Potential applications include ecology, finance, biostatistics, and social sciences. The methodological contribution of this book stands alone and does not require use of the VGAM package.

Book Local Content Requirements

Download or read book Local Content Requirements written by Gary Clyde Hufbauer and published by Peterson Institute for International Economics. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of the Great Recession of 2008–09, economists feared that protectionist policies might sweep the world economy, echoing the wave of tariff escalations during the Great Depression of the 1930s. To some surprise, officials were more restrained and largely avoided traditional forms of protection (tariffs and quotas), leading some observers to underestimate the incidence of new protectionism. In fact, policymakers increasingly turned to more opaque behind-the-border nontariff barriers (NTBs). Using a combination of statistical analysis and case studies, the authors show that local content requirements (LCRs), a form of NTB, have become increasingly popular. How much was global trade actually reduced on account of LCRs? A conservative estimate might be $93 billion. Case studies featured cover the healthcare sector in Brazil, wind turbines in Canada, the automobile industry in China, solar cells and modules in India, oil and gas in Nigeria, and “Buy American” restrictions on government procurement in the United States.

Book A Counterfactual Analysis of Regional Renewable Energy Auctions Taking the Spatial Dimension Into Account

Download or read book A Counterfactual Analysis of Regional Renewable Energy Auctions Taking the Spatial Dimension Into Account written by Siamak Sheykhha and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Auctions have recently been introduced in many countries as a useful alternative to accomplish renewable energy supports. However, they are often accompanied by a high concentration of renewable energy power plants at productive sites, at the expense of other, less favorable sites. This paper studies the impact of alternative renewable energy auction designs on the promotion of renewable energy in Germany using a novel multi-level approach. To do so, we analyze auctions on three different spatial levels: the national auction, the regional auction-type I (federal states level) and the regional auction-type II (north/south auction). The initial step for modeling renewable energy auction schemes in Germany is to investigate the onshore wind potential with a high regional and temporal resolution, using the GIS-data-based tool REMix-ENDAT. The results of this analysis show a considerable as yet untapped onshore wind potential in the southern federal states of Germany. Second, an onshore wind auction model is developed using a system dynamics approach. Finally, the comparison of the support payment for different auction designs is evaluated using the electricity market simulation model (HECTOR). Findings indicate that more bidders from the southern federal states can win in the regional auctions. Detailed spatial analysis reveals a trade-off between balanced diversity of bidders and average auction price (the price difference varies from 0.5 €-ct/kWh to 1.5 €-ct/kWh in different scenarios). We conduct that, a noticeable potential support payment saving from regional auctions should be exploited in long-term renewable energy policy designs.
