Book Ren Ang lil

Download or read book Ren Ang lil written by Jean Beaunoyer and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2004-03 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previously unknown details of Rene Angelil's personal and professional life are revealed in this investigation into the man who orchestrated one of the foremost successes in the history of show business. A seducer, dreamer, and inveterate gambler, Angelil lived through the 1960s with an attitude of blissful insouciance, only to suffer a series of professional setbacks and disappointments in love, which did not prevent him from achieving fame and fortune. In 1981, Rene Angelil staked his life on a single card: Celine Dion. His bet succeeded, yet the road ahead was still rocky. His health gave way, and as he was recovering, an accusation of sexual assault threatened to ruin his reputation. What comes next in the life of this inveterate gambler? This biography takes us far beyond the idealized, indulgent image presented by the media. Is this powerful man a genius? Is he the victim of a conspiracy, or does he abuse his power? Why is he so feared? This completely up-to-date book contains answers to all these questions and much more.

Download or read book Multiphase Flow written by Peter Vorobieff and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2018-04-18 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selected papers contained in this book present the latest research in one of the most challenging, yet most universally applicable areas of technology. Multiphase flows are found in all areas of technology and the range of related problems of interest is vast, including many areas of science and engineering. Recently multiphase fluid dynamics have generated a great deal of attention, leading to many notable advances in experimental, analytical and numerical studies. It is perhaps, however, work on numerical solutions which is the most noticeable owing to the continuing improvements in computer software tools. Progress in numerical methods has permitted the solution of many practical problems, helping to improve our understanding of the physics involved. The presented papers illustrate the close interaction between numerical modellers and researchers working to gradually resolve the many outstanding issues in our understanding of multiphase flow.

Book Variability and Stability in Foreign and Second Language Learning Contexts

Download or read book Variability and Stability in Foreign and Second Language Learning Contexts written by Liliana Piasecka and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-22 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a wide spectrum of topics organized within a relatively fixed framework of Applied Linguistics theory and practice, revolving around the concepts of stability and variability that capture the dynamic nature of the phenomena characterizing language, learning and teaching. The primary strength of individual chapters lies in the fact that the vast majority report original empirical studies carried out in diverse second/foreign language learning contexts – investigating interesting issues across various nationalities, ages, educational and professional groups of language learners, and teachers. The issues under scrutiny entail the ‘classic’ recurrent topics related to language learning and teaching, such as communicative competence, input, orality and literacy, learner characteristics and strategies, and teacher development – to mention just a few. In addition, ‘recent arrivals,’ to borrow a marketing metaphor, are also present, as the authors consider learning and teaching implications resulting from the status of English as a language of international communication, and discuss related concepts of intercultural competence along with language learners’ identity and creativity. The multilingual and multicultural contributors to the present volume are researchers – foreign and second language learners and teachers themselves – who offer the reader a range of methodological designs that have been successfully used in Applied Linguistics research. The framework of stability and variability suggests that changes leading to progress and development derive from stable foundations that account for the sense of continuity and belonging in applied linguists’ communities of practice.

This book was released on 2016-09-12 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Second and Foreign Language Writing is an authoritative reference compendium of the theory and research on second and foreign language writing that can be of value to researchers, professionals, and graduate students. It is intended both as a retrospective critical reflection that can situate research on L2 writing in its historical context and provide a state of the art view of past achievements, and as a prospective critical analysis of what lies ahead in terms of theory, research, and applications. Accordingly, the Handbook aims to provide (i) foundational information on the emergence and subsequent evolution of the field, (ii) state-of-the-art surveys of available theoretical and research (basic and applied) insights, (iii) overviews of research methods in L2 writing research, (iv) critical reflections on future developments, and (iv) explorations of existing and emerging disciplinary interfaces with other fields of inquiry.

Book Attribution of Extreme Weather Events in the Context of Climate Change

Download or read book Attribution of Extreme Weather Events in the Context of Climate Change written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As climate has warmed over recent years, a new pattern of more frequent and more intense weather events has unfolded across the globe. Climate models simulate such changes in extreme events, and some of the reasons for the changes are well understood. Warming increases the likelihood of extremely hot days and nights, favors increased atmospheric moisture that may result in more frequent heavy rainfall and snowfall, and leads to evaporation that can exacerbate droughts. Even with evidence of these broad trends, scientists cautioned in the past that individual weather events couldn't be attributed to climate change. Now, with advances in understanding the climate science behind extreme events and the science of extreme event attribution, such blanket statements may not be accurate. The relatively young science of extreme event attribution seeks to tease out the influence of human-cause climate change from other factors, such as natural sources of variability like El Niño, as contributors to individual extreme events. Event attribution can answer questions about how much climate change influenced the probability or intensity of a specific type of weather event. As event attribution capabilities improve, they could help inform choices about assessing and managing risk, and in guiding climate adaptation strategies. This report examines the current state of science of extreme weather attribution, and identifies ways to move the science forward to improve attribution capabilities.
