Book Removing the Veil

Download or read book Removing the Veil written by Margaret English and published by Bridge Logos Foundation. This book was released on 2008 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Removing the Veil presents God's way for men and women to relate to each other, both in the leadership of Christ's Church and in the family. Through fine exegetical work, Margaret English has uncovered God's true framework for leadership, relationships, and family harmony. Removing the Veil: Helps women realize their gifts and callings, Explores women's roles in the Church's end-times work, Celebrates the gifts and benefits women bring to the Church. "As a young woman and new believer, recently delivered from much," English writes, "I experienced an intense sense of God's call to ministry. Yet, as I sought to find encouragement and support, I discovered only locked doors and insurmountable walls. The Church seemed to be standing over me with folded arms and pinched lips, doubting and rejecting a calling I could not deny. Endlessly, I questioned why? Why would the Lord call me to ministry by His Spirit, only to then surround me with a steel vault of teachings and attitudes that blocked my entrance and denied my gifts? I heard but one reply: 'Study the Scriptures regarding women.'... Each dya, for more than a decade, I sat at my kitchen table and studied the Bible's passages pertaining to women. I began with Proverbs 31. That was merely the first leg of my journey...." Removing the Veil reveals our history, our hearts, and our hope, and calls women of the Church to arise! Book jacket.

Download or read book The Torn Veil written by Daniel M. Gurtner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-12-21 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this 2006 text, Daniel M. Gurtner examines the meaning of the rending of the veil at the death of Jesus in Matthew 27:51a by considering the functions of the veil in the Old Testament and its symbolism in Second Temple and Rabbinic Judaism. Gurtner incorporates these elements into a compositional exegesis of the rending text in Matthew. He concludes that the rending of the veil is an apocalyptic assertion like the opening of heaven revealing, in part, end-time images drawn from Ezekiel 37. Moreover, when the veil is torn Matthew depicts the cessation of its function, articulating the atoning role of Christ's death which gives access to God not simply in the sense of entering the Holy of Holies (as in Hebrews), but in trademark Matthean Emmanuel Christology: 'God with us'. This underscores the significance of Jesus' atoning death in the first gospel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blessed, Broken, and Scared. What does that mean? We know that Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and shared it with His friends saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." The Last Supper challenges us to live in such a way that we actually become the sacred food of Jesus Christ for others as we share our lives with them. And that can be scary! Blessed, Broken, and Scared calls the reader to a conversion from living a scared life to living a shared life. It is in sharing our life with others that we find the healing and peace we truly seek. All people are wounded by the world and have areas of hidden brokenness in their life. This book offers hope, healing, and change as it explores the profound implications of God's mercy, forgiveness, and love. "Brian addresses some very important issues in a conversational style that invites you into his book. Let this book, in a "sea of purple," be a place for us to share and be blessed. This book will truly encourage us to be Eucharist for one another." Fr. Martin Schratz OFM Cap. Brian has been sharing his Blessed, Broken, and Scared retreats around the country for years. Now the message has been captured in this book. Here is what some past retreatants have had to say: "Brian opens himself to all and helped us see that our brokenness isn't a deterrent to God's love and healing. Our retreat was truly a special day." "Should be required for today's Christians and Catholics." "One of the best day retreats that I have attended in nearly 40 years! So much to reflect on and put into action." "I have been to many seminars, webinars, retreats and have been blessed to have read many great books, but I have to say...this retreat impacted my life as to learning more about God's will in my life than any other book, resource, event ever has! Thanks be to God!" Brian Pusateri is a Christian author and speaker. Brian felt his life was forever changed when God spoke to his heart while attending a retreat in 2011. With the God-inspired message of mercy and unconditional love, Brian has been impacting others all over the country and around the world with his weekly letters, talks, and retreats. Book Burning the Veil

    Book Details:
  • Author : Neil McMaster
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 2012-05-15
  • ISBN : 9780719087547
  • Pages : 432 pages

Download or read book Burning the Veil written by Neil McMaster and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-15 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Burning the Veil draws upon sources from newly-opened archives, exploring the "emancipation" of Muslim women from the veil, seclusion and perceived male oppression during the Algerian War of decolonization. The claimed French liberation was contradicted by the violence inflicted on women through rape, torture, and destruction of villages. This book examines the roots of this contradiction in the theory of "revolutionary warfare", and the attempt to defeat the National Liberation Front by penetrating the Muslim family, seen as a bastion of resistance. Striking parallels with contemporary Afghanistan and Iraq, French "emancipation" produced a backlash that led to deterioration in the social and political position of Muslim women. This analysis of how and why attempts to Westernize Muslim women ended in catastrophe has contemporary relevance and will be important to students and academics engaged in the study of French and colonial history, feminism, and contemporary Islam.

Book The Ministry of the Unveiled Face

Download or read book The Ministry of the Unveiled Face written by Janet E. Fichter and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus told His followers to go into the world and preach the Good News. However, many Christians aren’t fulfilling this Great Commission. The call to “evangelize” conjures up uncomfortable images of walking inner city streets with a megaphone. We don’t relish facing possible ridicule so prevalent in society today, so we hesitate to reach out. But we are called to witness. And it isn’t that difficult. When we anchor in the goodness of Christ, we realize that sharing the Gospel is a profound honor. The Ministry of the Unveiled Face grounds us in the simplicity of sharing Christ in the everyday. The meekness of the call lies in our being responsive and obedient to God’s prompting as we interact with others. Anchored in persevering prayer, we speak scriptural truths into the lives of others as the Holy Spirit leads. Like the unveiling of a beautiful bride at her wedding, the spiritual veil is removed and Christ’s truth and goodness are revealed.

Book The Muslim Veil in North America

Download or read book The Muslim Veil in North America written by Sajida Sultana Alvi and published by Canadian Scholars’ Press. This book was released on 2003-02-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of veiling has been remarkably under-researched and over-ideologized. In recent years, the adoption of the veil has come to symbolize a brave expression of choice: women reaching out to tradition, but hoping it will not jeopardize their place in the larger North American society. It is with this in mind that the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) invited scholars in the fields of anthropology, history, sociology, and Islamic studies to carry out a systematic study of issues surrounding different practices of the hijab among Muslim communities. This book is the result of that study.
