Book Comparison of Secondary Flows and Boundary layer Accumulations in Several Turbine Nozzles

Download or read book Comparison of Secondary Flows and Boundary layer Accumulations in Several Turbine Nozzles written by Milton G. Kofskey and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of secondary-flow loss cores originating in turbine nozzle blade passages was conducted by means of flow visualization studies and detailed flow measurements. The degree of which blade surface velocity profiles affect the magnitude and concentration of loss cores was investigated by comparing three nozzle blade configurations.

Book Study of Secondary flow Patterns in an Annular Cascade of Turbine Nozzle Blades with Vortex Design

Download or read book Study of Secondary flow Patterns in an Annular Cascade of Turbine Nozzle Blades with Vortex Design written by Harold E. Rohlik and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to increase understanding of the origin of losses in a turbine, the secondary-flow components in the boundary layers and the blade wakes of an annular cascade of turbine nozzle blades (vortex design) were investigated. A detailed study was made of the total-pressure contours and, particularly, of the inner-wall loss cores down-stream of the blades.

Book Experimental Investigation of Loss in an Annular Cascade of Turbine nozzle Blades of Free Vortex Design

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Loss in an Annular Cascade of Turbine nozzle Blades of Free Vortex Design written by Hubert W. Allen and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the flow pattern immediately downstream of an annular cascade of nozzle blades designed for vortex-type velocity distribution and hub discharge angle of approximately 65 degrees from axial was conducted in order to obtain a better understanding of the processes by which the distribution of losses and deviations from design turning angle occur. For the two Mach numbers investigated, the loass region at the outer shroud decreased while that at the inner shroud increased with increasing Mach number.

Book An Analytical Study of Flow Losses Through a Two Dimensional Turbine Cascade with Boundary Layer Injection

Download or read book An Analytical Study of Flow Losses Through a Two Dimensional Turbine Cascade with Boundary Layer Injection written by W. Tabakoff and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for determining the performance of a two-dimensional turbine cascade with boundary layer injection is developed using existing incompressible boundary layer approximate solutions with a new formulation for the injection. The overall cascade loss includes friction and wake mixing losses. The results of the analysis are compared with experimentally obtained data as a check of the validity of the new analytical method. Book Annulus Wall Boundary Layers in Turbomachines

Download or read book Annulus Wall Boundary Layers in Turbomachines written by J. H. Horlock and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper reviews a substantial body of fundamental and applied research work on the subject of annulus wall boundary layers in turbomachines. A product of this work is a method for predicting, with reasonable accuracy, the full three-dimensional boundary layer that develops through a single blade row. The limitations of the method are discussed in relation to the experimental information available to the authors. In Part 2 the fundamental work is subjected to scrutiny in order to extract a boundary layer calculation method suitable for estimating the effects of annulus wall boundary layers on the performance of turbomachines. It is shown that a great many assumptions and simplifications are necessary at the present time but that reasonably satisfactory estimates are nevertheless possible. A computer program for the estimation of annulus blockage is listed.

Book Study of Boundary Layer Development in a Two Stage Low Pressure Turbine

Download or read book Study of Boundary Layer Development in a Two Stage Low Pressure Turbine written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data from jet-engine tests have indicated that unsteady blade row interactions and separation can have a significant impact on the efficiency of low-pressure turbine stages. Measured turbine efficiencies at takeoff can be as much as two points higher than those at cruise conditions. Several recent studies have revealed that Reynolds number effects may contribute to the lower efficiencies at cruise conditions. In the current study numerical simulations have been performed to study the boundary layer development in a two-stage low-pressure turbine, and to evaluate the transition models available for low Reynolds number flows in turbomachinery. The results of the simulations have been compared with experimental data, including airfoil loadings and integral boundary layer quantities. The predicted unsteady results display similar trends to the experimental data, but significantly overestimate the amplitude of the unsteadiness. The time-averaged results show close agreement with the experimental data.Dorney, Daniel J. and Ashpis, David E. and Halstead, David E. and Wisler, David C.Glenn Research CenterJET ENGINES; TWO STAGE TURBINES; COMPUTERIZED SIMULATION; BALDWIN-LOMAX TURBULENCE MODEL; BOUNDARY LAYER TRANSITION; TRANSITION FLOW; FLOW VISUALIZATION; BOUNDARY LAYER SEPARATION; SEPARATED FLOW; ROTOR BLADES (TURBOMACHINERY); TAKEOFF; CRUISING FLIGHT; COMPUTATIONAL GRIDS; NOZZLE FLOW; SKIN FRICTION; TURBINE BLADES; REYNOLDS NUMBER; FLOW CHARACTERISTICS; FLOW DISTRIBUTION
