Book Error Propagation in Environmental Modelling with GIS

Download or read book Error Propagation in Environmental Modelling with GIS written by Gerard B.M. Heuvelink and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-03-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GIS users and professionals are aware that the accuracy of GIS results cannot be naively based on the quality of the graphical output. Data stored in a GIS will have been collected or measured, classified, generalised, interpreted or estimated, and in all cases this allows the introduction of errors.; With the processing of translation of this data into the GIS itself further propagation or amplification or errors also occur. It is essential that GIS professionals understand these issues systematically if they are to build ever more accurate systems.; In this book the authors decade of study into these problems is brought into focus with an account of the development, application and implementation of error propagation techniques for use in environmental modelling with GIS. Its purpose is to provide a methodology for handling error and error propagation.

Book Atmospheric Propagation Properties in the 10 to 75 GHz Region

Download or read book Atmospheric Propagation Properties in the 10 to 75 GHz Region written by Institute for Telecommunication Sciences and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expansion of telecommunication services into the millimeter wave region prompts a careful look at the limitations of the atmosphere that can give rise to severe signal degradations. In Part I the loss and scatter mechanisms in the 10- to 40- GHz range are examined. It is concluded that there is a need for further theoretical and experimental work on the atmospheric propagation properties in order to support the engineering efforts in designing reliable, useful systems. In Part II the discussions are extended to the 40- to 75 -GHz region where absorption by oxygen dominates. In this region, communication through the atmosphere is not practical; however, the oxygen absorption has a great potential for remote sensing of atmospheric variables, and for special (short-range communication) applications. Unsolved problems of the propagation medium are discussed as a basis for formulating proposals; and the objectives of an experimental program for studying oxygen dispersion and absorption are given.

Book Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS

Download or read book Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS written by Giles M. Foody and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-11 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing and geographical information science (GIS) have advanced considerably in recent years. However, the potential of remote sensing and GIS within the environmental sciences is limited by uncertainty, especially in connection with the data sets and methods used. In many studies, the issue of uncertainty has been incompletely addressed. The situation has arisen in part from a lack of appreciation of uncertainty and the problems it can cause as well as of the techniques that may be used to accommodate it. This book provides general overviews on uncertainty in remote sensing and GIS that illustrate the range of uncertainties that may occur, in addition to describing the means of measuring uncertainty and the impacts of uncertainty on analyses and interpretations made. Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS provides readers with comprehensive coverage of this largely undocumented subject: * Relevant to a broad variety of disciplines including geography, environmental science, electrical engineering and statistics * Covers range of material from base overviews to specific applications * Focuses on issues connected with uncertainty at various points along typical data analysis chains used in remote sensing and GIS Written by an international team of researchers drawn from a variety of disciplines, Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS provides focussed discussions on topics of considerable importance to a broad research and user community. The book is invaluable reading for researchers, advanced students and practitioners who want to understand the nature of uncertainty in remote sensing and GIS, its limitations and methods of accommodating it.
