Book Remote Monitoring and Control of a Reconfigurable System Using a Web Interface

Download or read book Remote Monitoring and Control of a Reconfigurable System Using a Web Interface written by Onalenna Whitney Kehositse and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assembly system at the Research Group in Evolvable Manufacturing System (RGEMS) is designed to assemble products part by part and also ensuring good quality products. This system uses different kinds of industrial devices that are integrated in a way that the devices are dependent on each other in order to work properly on a production cycle. The disadvantage of systems of this nature is that if one of the devices malfunctions and is not attended to, the production line will get affected, which will cost time and money. In order to ensure that malfunctioning of devices is acknowledged in time, the system devices must be monitored while busy in progress; this is normally done by a system operator who uses a computer and checks if there is any change in system data using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. This is, however, inconvenient in that the system operator can only monitor and control the system when connected to the system’s network. Today we live in a wireless world, where anything can be accessible from anywhere in the world; internet and web technologies made all this possible. It was therefore proposed to design a system that can monitor and control the assembly system from a remote location. This system uses OLE Process Control (OPC) technology and web technology in order to read and write data to the system from the OPC server through the internet. This data is presented on a web user interface where it is viewed as analogue or digital data. The user only needs the internet browser installed to his/her computer or smart phone and also to be authorized by the system administrator in order to be able to monitor and control the system.

Book Development of a Hybrid Control and Monitoring System Within a Reconfigurable Assembly System

Download or read book Development of a Hybrid Control and Monitoring System Within a Reconfigurable Assembly System written by Johan Adam Niemann and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding global markets are constantly changing and unstable. South African manufacturing companies need to develop similar levels of sophistication and expertise in the automation industry as its international rivals, to compete for these markets and meet rising consumer expectations. To remain competitive, these manufacturing companies must manage their plants extremely efficiently to ensure the quality of assembled products; allow for rapid product introduction and product changes; achieve shortened throughput cycles; ensure more reliable delivery dates; and effectively coordinate product demand while contending with decreased product lifespans. To accomplish this, manufacturing companies in SA are progressively engaging in the current trend in automation known as reconfigurable manufacturing. Due to the extreme flexibility of these reconfigurable systems, the monitor and control systems for these require the same levels of flexibility. The purpose of the study is to develop a hybrid control and monitoring system, to supervise and control reconfigurable assembly systems (RAS), and adapt to the flexibility of these systems. To achieve this, a literature study was done in the research area to reveal the prerequisites for such systems; the physical assembly devices were designed and built; the separate software modules developed and ultimately integrated into the intended system. The tests to validate the system were developed in such a way that each subsection of the system is validated by using a different system software function. This inevitably confirms the functionality of the fundamental components and the system in entirety. The results indicated that devices are easily added to the system; devices are successfully detected and identified; how the system plans production, and how the system automatically configures itself. Further results showed the capability of the system to generate and virtually wire system runtime code; store and retrieve production data; as well as warn and alarm on unwanted conditions. By obtaining these results, companies can configure their systems with ease, in a shorter amount of time, and without any human error. Moreover, their systems will be more flexible, allow easy addition of new products and assembly devices, and with minimal downtime. This will enable SA manufacturing companies to be more competitive, ensure increased productivity, achieve extreme system flexibility, and decrease lead times – thus ensuring them an advantage over their international competitors.

Book Internet of Things and Analytics for Agriculture Volume 3

Download or read book Internet of Things and Analytics for Agriculture Volume 3 written by Prasant Kumar Pattnaik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses one of the major challenges in agriculture which is delivery of cultivate produce to the end consumers with best possible price and quality. Currently all over the world, it is found that around 50% of the farm produce never reaches the end consumer due to wastage and suboptimal prices. The authors present solutions to reduce the transport cost, predictability of prices on the past data analytics and the current market conditions, and number of middle hops and agents between the farmer and the end consumer using IoT-based solutions. Again, the demand by consumption of agricultural products could be predicted quantitatively; however, the variation of harvest and production by the change of farm's cultivated area, weather change, disease and insect damage, etc., could be difficult to be predicted, so that the supply and demand of agricultural products has not been controlled properly. To overcome, this edited book designed the IoT-based monitoring system to analyze crop environment and the method to improve the efficiency of decision making by analyzing harvest statistics. The book is also useful for academicians working in the areas of climate changes.

Book Optimization of Manufacturing Systems Using the Internet of Things

Download or read book Optimization of Manufacturing Systems Using the Internet of Things written by Yingfeng Zhang and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-10-21 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization of Manufacturing Systems Using the Internet of Things extends the IoT (Internet of Things) into the manufacturing field to develop an IoMT (Internet of Manufacturing Things) architecture with real-time traceability, visibility, and interoperability in production planning, execution, and control. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the optimization and control of an intelligent manufacturing system. As modern manufacturing shop-floors can create bottlenecks in the capturing and collection of real-time field information, and because paper-based manual systems are time-consuming and prone to errors, this book helps readers understand how to alleviate these issues, assisting them in their decision-making on shop-floors. Includes case studies in implementing IoTs for data acquisition, monitoring, and assembly in manufacturing. Helps manufacturers to tackle the growing complexities and uncertainties of manufacturing systems in globalized business environments Acts as an introduction to using IoT for readers across industrial and manufacturing engineering

Book An Approach to Remote Process Monitoring and Control

Download or read book An Approach to Remote Process Monitoring and Control written by John Dracos and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this thesis is to present an approach to remote monitoring and operation of distributed real time process control systems. Conventional monitoring of process control systems currently requires a great deal of close supervision from trained personnel located on-site. In many cases, researchers, developers or maintenance personnel cannot be at every location where such a system is installed. Currently, a standardized architecture for remote access to such systems is not available. In addition, most of these systems are very expensive and under-utilized. Researchers would benefit by having access to different parts of a system concurrently The benefits of a layered architecture for remote process monitoring and control will be analyzed through the use of a demonstration system that was realized to examine the real time performance of the interconnection mechanisms between the process controller(s) and the system monitoring interfaces. Low level, real-time process control is achieved by using specialized networking schemes called fieldbusses to interconnect all control devices. In this system, fieldbus controllers will also assume the role of servers connected to the Internet, in order to make device information available to any local or remote clients. In the proposed architecture, remote clients are user interfaces, implemented as JAVA applets, which can be accessed with a web browser. The proposed system architecture allows for client interfaces to gain remote access to various types of fieldbusses transparently.'--Abstract.
