Download or read book Intrinsic Remediation Engineering Evaluation Cost Analysis for the Former AGE Fueling Facility Site Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Goldsboro North Carolina Draft Volume 1 Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of the investigation performed by Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons ES) at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (AFB), North Carolina to evaluate the use of intrinsic remediation (natural attenuation) with long-term monitoring (LTM) as a remedial option for dissolved benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) contamination in shallow groundwater. Parsons ES conducted the field investigation during the period between January and July 1995 at the former aerospace ground equipment (AGE) fueling facility site (adjacent to Building 4715). The source of the contamination is assumed to be releases from an abandoned underground storage tank (UST) system that was formerly used to store gasoline, JP-4, and diesel fuel. BTEX and total volatile hydrocarbons (TVH) were determined to be dissolved in groundwater and adsorbed to soils. Residual light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) was found in the soil column (at the groundwater interface) in the immediate vicinity of the former UST system. Also, mobile LNAPL (free product) was observed in several monitoring points installed during the investigation. This study focused on the impacts of the dissolved BTEX and residual and mobile LNAPL on the shallow groundwater system at the site. Potential electron acceptors and other geochemical parameters were analyzed to quantify ongoing biodegradation. An important component of this study was an assessment of the potential for contamination in groundwater to migrate from the former AGE fueling facility site to potential receptor exposure points. The Bioplume II model was used to estimate the fate and transport of dissolved BTEX in the shallow saturated zone under the influence of advection, dispersion, sorption, and biodegradation. Whenever possible, input parameters for the Bioplume II model were obtained from data collected by Parsons ES during 1995. Extensive site-specific data were used for model calibration and implementation.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work plan was prepared by Engineering Science, Inc. (ES) and describes the scope of work required for the collection and analysis of data to complete an engineering evaluation/cost analysis (EE/CA) in support of a risk-based remediation decision for soil and ground water contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons at Area D Bulk Fuel Storage (Area D) at Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB), Rapid City, South Dakota. Area D, a petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) tank farm, is part of the base-wide fuel distribution system. This work plan is the equivalent of a treatability study test design (TSTD) for the field test of the risk-based approach to the remediation of Area D. This innovative technology is sponsored by the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) at Brooks AFB, under contract F41624-93-C-8044, "Risk-Based Approach to Fuel Spill Remediation." The Area D demonstration is a component of a multisite initiative being sponsored by AFCEE to demonstrate how quantitative fate and transport calculations and risk information based on site-specific data can be integrated to quickly determine the type and magnitude of remedial action required at a site to minimize contaminant migration and receptor risks.

The RI portion of the report covers the site background, field investigations, nature and extent of contamination, conceptual model, and baseline risk assessment. The purpose of the RI is to define the contamination at OU 5 and the effects of the contamination on human health and the environment. The FS covers: (1) remedial action objectives, (2) an identification and screening of potentially applicable technologies, (3) a development and screening of alternatives which combine these technologies, and (4) a detailed analysis of the most applicable alternatives. The analysis considers the nine CERCLA evaluation criteria. The alternatives are evaluated according to their combined effectiveness, implementability, and cost scores. Based on the analysis, the most cost-effective alternatives are identified. Remedial action objectives, ARARs, Detailed analysis of alternatives, Operable Unit 5, Remedial investigation/feasibility study, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

Book Intrinsic Remediation Engineering Evaluation Cost Analysis Addendum for UST Site 870 Hill Air Force Base Ogden Utah

Download or read book Intrinsic Remediation Engineering Evaluation Cost Analysis Addendum for UST Site 870 Hill Air Force Base Ogden Utah written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intent of the EE/CA Addendum was to determine the role of natural attenuation in remediating fuel contamination in groundwater at Site 870. The EE/CA was conducted to evaluate the use of intrinsic remediation with long-term monitoring (LTM) for remediation of fuel hydrocarbon contamination dissolved in groundwater at UST Site 870. This update summarizes the results of the third sampling event performed as part of long-term groundwater monitoring at the site. This sampling was conducted in September 1998 by researchers from the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) Subsurface Protection and Remediation Division. The original EE/CA sampling event was conducted in August 1993 with the first long-term sampling occurring in July 1994 and the second long-term sampling occurring in September 1995. The main emphasis of this summary is to evaluate changes in dissolved benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) concentrations, plume extent, and natural attenuation mechanisms through time.

Download or read book Intrinsic Remediation Engineering Evaluation Cost Analysis for Car Care Center at Bolling Air Force Base Washington DC written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of the investigation performed by Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons ES) at Bolling Air Force Base (AFB), District of Columbia to evaluate the use of intrinsic remediation (natural attenuation) with long-term monitoring (LTM) as a remedial option for dissolved benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) contamination in the shallow saturated zone. Parsons ES conducted field investigations during August 1994 and June 1996 at the former Car Care Center Site (Building 4). The source of the contamination was leaking underground storage tanks and other associated equipment. BTEX and total volatile hydrocarbons (TVH) was determined to be dissolved in groundwater and absorbed to soils. Residual light nonaqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) was found throughout the soil column, both above and below the groundwater interface. However, minimal mobile LNAPL (free product) was observed at the site during the field investigations. This study focused on the impact of dissolved BTEX and residual LNAPL on the shallow groundwater system at the site.
