Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times Bestseller What if everything you think you know about addiction is wrong? Johann Hari's journey into the heart of the war on drugs led him to ask this question--and to write the book that gave rise to his viral TED talk, viewed more than 62 million times, and inspired the feature film The United States vs. Billie Holiday and the documentary series The Fix. One of Johann Hari's earliest memories is of trying to wake up one of his relatives and not being able to. As he grew older, he realized he had addiction in his family. Confused, not knowing what to do, he set out and traveled over 30,000 miles over three years to discover what really causes addiction--and what really solves it. He uncovered a range of remarkable human stories--of how the war on drugs began with Billie Holiday, the great jazz singer, being stalked and killed by a racist policeman; of the scientist who discovered the surprising key to addiction; and of the countries that ended their own war on drugs--with extraordinary results. Chasing the Scream is the story of a life-changing journey that transformed the addiction debate internationally--and showed the world that the opposite of addiction is connection.

Book Recovery from Anger Addiction

Download or read book Recovery from Anger Addiction written by Verryl V. Fosnight and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-29 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book Presents a Paradigm Shift About Toxic Anger: Anger Is An Addiction Using the wisdoms of John Bradshaw, Pia Mellody, Claudia Black, Alice Miller, and many other recovery giants, Verryl grew to understand himself in the context of his past traumas. He was finally able to apply all the theories of these authors to heal his anger and rage. This expansion of theory to the emotion of toxic anger results in a revolutionary new concept of anger as an addiction. This paradigm shift empowers a person to recover from rage as an ill person seeking to be well, as opposed to a bad person trying to act better. Telling yourself you are a bad person is a self-defeating message to your inner self, but an ill person can get well. He presents this new, simple, and enlightened treatment for anger in easy to follow language. Ultimately these conclusions are illustrated as a set of simple diagrams that outline the full path of angers development starting from the core emotion of pain from early losses through raging behavior that is life damaging. Using the revolutionary model of anger as an addiction, he demonstrates that anger can be healed. There is no need to rationally manage toxic anger (while remaining a bad person). Toxic anger practically evaporates as an emotional impulse as the underlying pain is resolved in the good, but ill person. Included: Research survey paper on Anger Management classes by Desiree Harris, M. C.

Book Addiction to Religion

  • Author : Mahfooz Kanwar Ph.D.

Download or read book Addiction to Religion written by Mahfooz Kanwar Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-05-22 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the Second World War, in the 1950s and beyond, we embraced revolutionary emancipation of women, among other things, which led to an unprecedented sexual and cultural revolution, especially in the West. We discarded some of the old ways of doing things, and we opened the door to a brand-new and modern civilization in the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. The sexual and cultural revolution led us to secularism, which challenged many draconian mores, including those in Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, Tunisia, and Morocco. That was when I published one of my books, Sociology of Religion: Changing Conceptions in the Structure of Islam. However, in relatively recent times, we have faced the backward process of reverting to traditional norms. That reversed cultural change led to fundamentalism, including fundamentalism in religion, which is a precursor to addiction to religion. That has ultimately resulted in national and international terrorism. That born-again trend encouraged me to do research in this field, including addiction to religion. That led me to write this book. I have concluded in this book that both addiction to drugs and addiction to religion are a disease, a delirium, and a psychic syndrome influenced by a mental disorder. During the last two to three decades, there has been a significant rise in religious fundamentalism leading to addiction to religion, which has caused global havoc. Religion has been hijacked, misused, and abused, largely by semiliterate believers in all organized religions. Religious addiction is perhaps worse than drug addiction. Other books by the Author 1. Book Jesus Christ M D The Awesome Power of Blending Medicine and Religion for Healing

Download or read book Jesus Christ M D The Awesome Power of Blending Medicine and Religion for Healing written by Jerry Old MD and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do ancient religious practices help in healing today? Is prayer of benefit? If so, what kind of prayers? What about "laying on of hands" or "casting out demons?" Over three-fourths of patients entering a hospital wish that their health-care providers would consider their spiritual needs as part of their medical care. Yet, most patients-along with their health-care professionals-struggle to understand how to use this spiritual side in healing. Modern healthcare is based upon science and often sees religion as getting in the way of healing. However, when humans combine our religious and spiritual nature with the science of modern medicine, we have the most powerful tool for healing the world has ever known. This book dares to explore this very personal aspect of human life that has had very little written about it-the private spiritual beliefs that people share with their doctors, spiritual advisors, and families when they are ill, injured, or frightened about their health. Here are the true stories of how people have used their spiritual side for healing. Many will mystify and give us chills!

(Genesis 3:17-21) In the Book of Genesis, the purpose for which God created us is contained. When architects design a building or artists draw a painting, they first conceive the work that would be completed in their minds before they actually begin working on their project. Just like this, our God also had our salvation of mankind in His mind even before He created the heavens and the earth, and He made Adam and Eve with this purpose in mind. And God needed to explain to us the domain of Heaven, which is not seen by our eyes of the flesh, by drawing an analogy to the domain of the earth that we can all see and understand. Even before the foundation of the world, God wanted to save mankind perfectly by giving the gospel of the water and the Spirit to everyone’s heart. So although all human beings were made out of dust, they must learn and know the gospel Truth of the water and the Spirit to benefit their own souls. If people continue to live without knowing the dominion of Heaven, they will lose not only the things of the earth, but also everything that belongs to Heaven. Book When Religion Is an Addiction

Download or read book When Religion Is an Addiction written by Robert N. Minor and published by Fairness Proj. This book was released on 2007 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Religion is an Addiction first asks us to change our understanding of the radical religious right, to consider it in a new light, so that we can do something that will first of all ensure the health of those outside the addiction, and secondly, end our own activities that are part of the dynamics that further the religious right-wing. Chapters two through seven set out the new understanding of many in the religious right-wing and how it explains what we've been seeing in social issues and politics. The ultimate goal is not only to set forth a way to understand the problem but also to point to solutions. Chapter one sets the tone for that by calling us to stop arguing about religion in general. The recent spate of books that defend atheism — what Time magazine has labelled “an atheist literary wave” — are a welcome alternative voice in American religious dialogue. They also encourage such arguments and soothe the atheist choir, while providing further opportunities for the right-wing to use religion for its accompanying feeling of righteousness.Chapter eight discusses practical guidelines for dealing with people who use religion as their addiction. People in Dr. Minor's workshops have already found these guidelines helpful, reassuring, and empowering.

Book The Religion of Tomorrow

Download or read book The Religion of Tomorrow written by Ken Wilber and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A provocative examination of how the great religious traditions can remain relevant in modern times by incorporating scientific truths learned about human nature over the last century A single purpose lies at the heart of all the great religious traditions: awakening to the astonishing reality of the true nature of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, through centuries of cultural accretion and focus on myth and ritual as ends in themselves, this core insight has become obscured. Here, Ken Wilber provides a path for re-envisioning a religion of the future that acknowledges the evolution of humanity in every realm while remaining faithful to that original spiritual vision. For the traditions to attract modern men and women, Wilber asserts, they must incorporate the extraordinary number of scientific truths learned about human nature in just the past hundred years—for example, about the mind and brain, emotions, and the growth of consciousness—that the ancients were simply unaware of and thus were unable to include in their meditative systems. Taking Buddhism as an example, Wilber demonstrates how his comprehensive Integral Approach—which is already being applied to several world religions by some of their adherents—can avert a “cultural disaster of unparalleled proportions”: the utter neglect of the glorious upper reaches of human potential by the materialistic postmodern worldview. Moreover, he shows how we can apply this approach to our own spiritual practice. This, his most sweeping work since Sex, Ecology, Spirituality, is a thrilling call for wholeness, inclusiveness, and unity in the religions of tomorrow.
