Book Religion and Friendly Fire

Download or read book Religion and Friendly Fire written by D.Z. Phillips and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In locating friendly fire in contemporary philosophy of religion, D.Z. Phillips shows that more harm can be done to religion by its philosophical defenders than by its philosophical despisers. Friendly fire is the result of an uncritical acceptance of empiricism, and Phillips argues that we need to examine critically the claims that individual consciousness is the necessary starting point from which we have to argue: for the existence of an external world and the reality of God; that God is a person without a body, a pure consciousness; and that to assent to a religious belief is essentially to assign a truth value to a proposition independent of any confessional context. When these products of friendly fire are avoided, we arrive at a new understanding of belief, trust and the soul, and refuse to say more or less than we know about the realities of human life in the service of religious apologetics.

Book Hit By Friendly Fire Stapled Booklet

Download or read book Hit By Friendly Fire Stapled Booklet written by Michael A. Milton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-05-15 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One second. One mistake. One firing of the missile in the midst of the war. The missile cannot come back. The weapon is now headed for you. And the one who fired it is on your side. It is war. Hit by friendly fire. This is not Baghdad or the Battle of the Bulge or Pork Chop Hill. I am speaking of the many walking wounded in the body of Christ who have been hurt by other believers, people who have been hit by the betrayal of a Christian. Thus Dr. Michael A. Milton begins this message. Diagnosing the problem, finding the biblical solution, and applying the divine balm with pastoral thoughtfulness, we are pleased to offer the Church a little booklet that has already been used by many to find hope and healing. This is a book for seasoned pastors and newly converted Christians, for idealistic students and cynical saints. It is a book for all of us. For at one time or another on this side of heaven, we could all get hit by friendly fire.

Book excerpt: This book was written to encourage those who work in the local church and have been abused so badly they are ready to give up the work the Lord has given them. It is also written to the ones who may be abusers and do not realize it. One can get so caught up in the work that losing site of who gets the glory is easily done. As I was praying one day in the spirit I heard these words, "Tell my people they are fighting in the wrong battles and losing the war." This is my attempt to obey the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Download or read book Stop the Church I Want to Get Off written by H. G. Delaney and published by Publishamerica Incorporated. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you been hurt or offended by a fellow Christian? Do you feel used, unappreciated, or maybe even underused and misunderstood by the local church leadership? Do you find yourself moving from church to church, looking for the right fit? Are you becoming disenchanted with Christianity in general? Maybe you are one of the many who have ceased your involvement with any style of organized church altogether! Are you one who has never accepted Christianity as a belief system because of the alleged ahypocrisya youave witnessed among Christians, especially among our leaders? Iave been told that Gandhi once said, aI like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.a Over the centuries, so much meaningless tradition and error have been built upon the foundational teachings of Jesus Christ that, in too many cases, one can find few similarities between the spiritual life Christ demonstrated and contemporary Christianity. The truth is, that gut feeling you have that something is wrong just might be right on target! This book, along with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will help you work your way through the fog and respond constructively to these observations, steering you toward a real and satisfying Christian life.

Download or read book Friendly Fire written by William Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " Pain and anger intrude into our lives, often provoking profound questions. Even the most fortunate among us experience times of sorrow and fear, loneliness and loss. In such times we cry out, like Job, "O God, why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? Is there any way out of or through my hurt? Job, the suffering patriarch, demonstrates impatience but also an emotional honesty and a deep faith in God. Job reaches out beyond both his external circumstances and his volatile emotions to come through the severest of trials, not just somehow, but triumphantly. This drama teaches us how to walk with God when our anger is real and when our pain seems unrelenting. In this study of the book of Job we will not only learn how to successfully endure the difficulties of life, but also how to help those we love through their times of suffering as well." -- From publisher description.
