Book Post disaster Navigation and Allied Services over Opportunistic Networks

Download or read book Post disaster Navigation and Allied Services over Opportunistic Networks written by Suman Bhattacharjee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the details of developing a digital pedestrian map construction system over the intermittently connected mobile network. Over the past couple of decades, countries across the world, both developing and developed, have witnessed a significant number of disasters. Thus, it has become mandatory for each of the disaster-prone countries to equip themselves with appropriate measures to cope with the challenges of providing post-disaster services. Some of the serious challenges are incapacitated communication infrastructure, unstable power supply and inaccessible road networks. Out of these challenges, the destruction of road networks, especially in developing countries, acts as a major hindrance to effective disaster management. To be more specific, the success of a disaster response operation generally depends on the speed of evacuation and transportation of adequate amount of relief materials at the right time to the disaster-affected areas. Hence, map-based navigation support is a primary requirement for post-disaster relief operations. This book also provides the solution of the two other important post-disaster management services such as situational awareness and resource allocation. Both of these services are invariably dependent on the existence of navigation support. Finally, in order to offer such services, the other challenge is to address the problem of incapacitated communication infrastructure. This book also deals with such challenges in post-disaster scenarios and develops automated post-disaster management services.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans and other living organisms are affected by natural as well as man-made disasters. Most recently, the Covid19 pandemic caused a worldwide healthcare disaster resulting in unprecedented changes in the global economy, the global healthcare system, as well as professional and personal life. The process of recovering from such disasters incurs high costs and time due to the lack of coordination between various relief teams and the inefficient distribution of relief materials such as food, water, and medicine. The prediction or early detection of disasters as well as the prevention of relief fund mismanagement are major concerns for researchers. The Role of Blockchain in Disaster Management explores the latest research in the architecture and implementation of existing blockchain-based IoT frameworks for the detection and prevention of disasters as well as the management of relative supply chains, to protect against mismanagement of essential materials. The distributed nature of Blockchain helps to protect data from internal or external attacks, especially in disaster areas or times of crisis when database systems become overloaded and vulnerable to unauthorized access, manipulation, and disruption of critical services. This book can be used as a reference by graduate students, researchers, professors, and professionals in the fields of computer science, software design, and disaster management. - Presents the design of blockchain-based frameworks for disaster management and their performance evaluation to help compare proposed frameworks - Introduces applications of machine learning techniques to make disaster management systems more intelligent and enable more accurate data analysis/prediction - Addresses data security issues as key examples that can be prevented through the application of blockchain technology

Book Leveraging Blockchain Technology

Download or read book Leveraging Blockchain Technology written by Shaun Aghili and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-11-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blockchain technology is a digital ledger system that allows for secure, transparent and tamper-proof transactions. It is essentially an often decentralized, distributed, peer-to-peer database that is maintained by a network of computers instead of a single entity, making it highly resistant to hacking and data breaches. By providing greater security, transparency and efficiency, blockchain technology can help to create a more equitable and sustainable world. Blockchain technology has the potential to help mankind in various ways, some of which include but are not limited to: Decentralization and Transparency: Blockchain technology allows for decentralization of data and transactions, making them more transparent and accountable. This is particularly important in fields such as finance, where trust and transparency are critical. Increased Security: Blockchain technology is inherently secure due to its distributed nature, making it very difficult for hackers to compromise the system. This makes it an ideal solution for data and information storage, particularly in areas such as health and finance, where privacy and security are of utmost importance. Faster Transactions: Blockchain technology eliminates the need for intermediaries, reducing the time and cost associated with transactions. This makes it an ideal solution for international trade, remittances and other types of financial transactions, especially in parts of the world where a great number of individuals do not have access to basic banking services. Immutable Record: One of the fundamental attributes of blockchain is its immutability. Once data is added to the blockchain, it becomes nearly impossible to alter or delete. This feature ensures a tamper-resistant and reliable record of transactions, crucial for maintaining integrity in various industries, including supply chain management and legal documentation. Smart Contracts: Blockchain technology supports the implementation of smart contracts, which are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. This automation streamlines processes and reduces the risk of fraud, particularly in sectors like real estate and legal agreements. Interoperability: Blockchain’s ability to facilitate interoperability allows different blockchain networks to communicate and share information seamlessly. This attribute is pivotal for creating a unified and interconnected ecosystem, especially as various industries adopt blockchain independently. Interoperability enhances efficiency, reduces redundancy and fosters collaboration across diverse sectors. Leveraging Blockchain Technology: Governance, Risk, Compliance, Security, and Benevolent Use Cases discusses various governance, risk and control (GRC) and operational risk-related considerations in a comprehensive, yet non-technical, way to enable business leaders, managers and professionals to better understand and appreciate its various potential use cases. This book is also a must-read for leaders of non-profit organizations, allowing them to further democratize needs that we often take for granted in developed countries around the globe, such as access to basic telemedicine, identity management and banking services.
