Book Evidence for Child Welfare Practice

Download or read book Evidence for Child Welfare Practice written by Michael J. Austin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a "work-in-progress" that seeks to capture the micro (direct service) and macro (managerial) perspectives related to identifying evidence for practice within the practice domain of public child welfare. It is divided into two categories; namely, evidence for direct practice and evidence for management practice. In Part I, the articles are categorized in the areas of child welfare assessment and child welfare outcomes. Expanded versions of the chapters can be accessed at www.bassc.net. In Part II, the focus is on organizational issues that relate to evidence for management practice. This section includes an overview of evidence-based practice from an organizational perspective along with evidence related to the experiences of others in implementing evidence-based practice. This book pushes the discussion of evidence-based practice in several new directions regarding: 1) the use of structured reviews to complement the systematic reviews of the Cochrane and Campbell Collaboratives, 2) the process of viewing the call for evidence-based practice as a goal or future vision of practice and evidence for practice provides a more immediate approach to promote evidence-informed practice, and 3) a recognition that evidence-informed practice is part of building agency-based knowledge sharing systems that involve the tacit and explicit knowledge needed to improve the outcomes of social services. This book was published as a special issue of the Journal Of Evidence-Based Social Work.

Book Encyclopedia of Human Services and Diversity

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Human Services and Diversity written by Linwood H. Cousins and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2014-09-05 with total page 2542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encyclopedia of Human Services and Diversity is the first encyclopedia to reflect the changes in the mission of human services professionals as they face today’s increasingly diverse service population. Diversity encompasses a broad range of human differences, including differences in ability and disability, age, education level, ethnicity, gender, geographic origin, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, and values. Understanding the needs and problems of Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, the deaf, the blind, the LGBT community, and many other groups demands an up-to-date and cutting-edge reference. This three-volume encyclopedia provides human services students, professors, librarians, and practitioners the reference information they need to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population. Features: 600 signed entries are organized A-to-Z across three volumes. Entries, authored by key figures in the field, conclude with cross references and further readings. A Reader’s Guide groups related articles within broad, thematic areas, such as aging, community mental health, family and child services, substance abuse, etc. A detailed index, the Reader’s Guide, and cross references combine for search-and-browse in the electronic version. A helpful Resource Guide guides students to classic books, journals, and web sites, and a glossary assists them with the terminology of the field. Available in both print and electronic formats, Encyclopedia of Human Services and Diversity is an ideal reference for students, practitioners, faculty and librarians.

Book Independent Living Specialist Assessment of Skills Measuring Areas for Independent Living

Download or read book Independent Living Specialist Assessment of Skills Measuring Areas for Independent Living written by Margaret L. Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the acquisition of skills for independent living is a positive aspect for all persons including persons with disabilities (Cairns, 2001), many programs differ in their concept and identification of skills that promote independent living for persons with disabilities (Iceman & Dunlap, 1984). Similarly, the United States and many other countries are facing problems in defining independent living (Tate, 1984). Giordano and D'Alonzo (1994) noted that a precise and universally agreed upon definition of independent living is elusive. Similarly, Barnes (2005) noted that there was no uniform definition for independent living. Independent living specialists are employees staffed at centers for independent living that have direct professional experience with identifying skills that promote independent living for persons with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of agreement among independent living specialists in assessing an instrument measuring areas for independent living. The Ansell Casey Life Skills Assessment (ACLSA) Caregiver 4, a measuring instrument used for assessing adults' independent living skills, was used in this study. Independent living specialists from the Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living (INCIL) were the population this study. Descriptive and parametric statistical analyses were used in analyzing the data.

Book Living on the Edge

Download or read book Living on the Edge written by Samuel Keller and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EPDF and EPUB available Open Access under CC-BY licence. Young people transitioning out of care towards independence, work and adulthood are on the edge of these phases of life. Considering previously neglected groups of care leavers such as unaccompanied migrants, street youth, those leaving residential care, young parents and those with a disability, this book presents cutting-edge research from emerging global scholars. The collection addresses the precarity experienced by many care leavers, who often lack the social capital and resources to transition into stable education, employment and family life. Including the voices of care leavers throughout, it makes research relevant to practitioners and policymakers aiming to enable, rather than label, vulnerable groups.
