Book Reliability Based Design of Transmission Line Structure Foundations

Download or read book Reliability Based Design of Transmission Line Structure Foundations written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Review of the reliability based design (RBD) approach presented in ASCE's guidelines for electrical transmission line structural loading. The approach is modified to suit the statistical characteristics of foundation design procedures and a method for calibrating foundation design models is described in detail. The results of using the procedure to calibrate foundation design models currently used in North America for drilled shafts loaded in uplift or by moment loads and an application example are presented.

Book Reliability Based Design in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book Reliability Based Design in Geotechnical Engineering written by Kok-Kwang Phoon and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-04-21 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability-based design is the only engineering methodology currently available which can ensure self-consistency in both physical and probabilistic terms. It is also uniquely compatible with the theoretical basis underlying other disciplines such as structural design. It is especially relevant as geotechnical design becomes subject to incre

Book Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design

Download or read book Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design written by Chong Tang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design is unique in the compilation of the largest and the most diverse load test databases to date, covering many foundation types (shallow foundations, spudcans, driven piles, drilled shafts, rock sockets and helical piles) and a wide range of ground conditions (soil to soft rock). All databases with names prefixed by NUS are available upon request. This book presents a comprehensive evaluation of the model factor mean (bias) and coefficient of variation (COV) for ultimate and serviceability limit state based on these databases. These statistics can be used directly for AASHTO LRFD calibration. Besides load test databases, performance databases for other geo-structures and their model factor statistics are provided. Based on this extensive literature survey, a practical three-tier scheme for classifying the model uncertainty of geo-structures according to the model factor mean and COV is proposed. This empirically grounded scheme can underpin the calibration of resistance factors as a function of the degree of understanding – a concept already adopted in the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and being considered for the new draft for Eurocode 7 Part 1 (EN 1997-1:202x). The helical pile research in Chapter 7 was recognised by the 2020 ASCE Norman Medal.

Book Design of Electrical Transmission Lines

Download or read book Design of Electrical Transmission Lines written by Sriram Kalaga and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers structural and foundation systems used in high-voltage transmission lines, conductors, insulators, hardware and component assembly. In most developing countries, the term “transmission structures” usually means lattice steel towers. The term actually includes a vast range of structural systems and configurations of various materials such as wood, steel, concrete and composites. This book discusses those systems along with associated topics such as structure functions and configurations, load cases for design, analysis techniques, structure and foundation modeling, design deliverables and latest advances in the field. In the foundations section, theories related to direct embedment, drilled shaf ts, spread foundations and anchors are discussed in detail. Featuring worked out design problems for students, the book is aimed at students, practicing engineers, researchers and academics. It contains beneficial information for those involved in the design and maintenance of transmission line structures and foundations. For those in academia, it will be an adequate text-book / design guide for graduate-level courses on the topic. Engineers and managers at utilities and electrical corporations will find the book a useful reference at work.
