Book excerpt: Contemporary time has seen alarming environmental revolt that is calls for attention and concern about the biosphere world, a condition that calls for need to use advantage of human improved knowledge and civilization in science engineering to develop proactive, efficient and predictive based system that meet reliability and sustainability requirement as well to reduce uncertainty components of system design. Proactive based philosophy under safety and environmental framework should be exercise on all level of system life cycle, including design, construction, operation and disposal. Selection of all element of the life cycle should be responsibly done and pollution impact of the system to the environment and community should be mitigated. The book present application of risk and reliability analysis to various cases of marine system and subsystem, application of risk method ranging from qualitative, quantitative to simulation and analytical approach is presented.

Book Stochastic Models in Reliability Engineering

Download or read book Stochastic Models in Reliability Engineering written by Lirong Cui and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collective work by many leading scientists, analysts, mathematicians, and engineers who have been working at the front end of reliability science and engineering. The book covers conventional and contemporary topics in reliability science, all of which have seen extended research activities in recent years. The methods presented in this book are real-world examples that demonstrate improvements in essential reliability and availability for industrial equipment such as medical magnetic resonance imaging, power systems, traction drives for a search and rescue helicopter, and air conditioning systems. The book presents real case studies of redundant multi-state air conditioning systems for chemical laboratories and covers assessments of reliability and fault tolerance and availability calculations. Conventional and contemporary topics in reliability engineering are discussed, including degradation, networks, and dynamic reliability, resilience, and multi-state systems, all of which are relatively new topics to the field. The book is aimed at engineers and scientists, as well as postgraduate students involved in reliability design, analysis, and experiments and applied probability and statistics.

Book Extensions to structural reliability analysis of marine diesel engine shafting systems

Download or read book Extensions to structural reliability analysis of marine diesel engine shafting systems written by DIMITRIOS VASSILIOS LYRIDIS and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: the envelope process. The discrete process of the maxima is assumed to be Markov. For the case where the two frequencies are of comparable magnitude, an equivalent stationary process approach to this two frequency case, similar to that developed for the one frequency problem, is presented. The range of frequencies for which each of these methods is valid is discussed. Finally, a simple design algorithm is proposed to allow the probabilistic method to be applied in shafting systems design.

Book Risk and Reliability in Marine Technology

Download or read book Risk and Reliability in Marine Technology written by C. Soares Guedes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience has shown that introducing risk analysis in the initial phases of any design often has important beneficial effects on both safety and economy. It has also become well accepted that structural design can occur on a sounder basis if the concepts of structural reliability are applied, in that they provide a consistent base to deal with uncertainties and to establish safety factors. Finally the operational cost of running installations depends very much on the maintenance policies applied and these in turn can translate their efficiency in terms of reliability of the systems that are maintained. The mathematical tools available to deal with these different types of problems are are somewhat different, but they have several common features. The main one is the use of probalistic models to predict the probability of failure or its complement reliability. This book explores the complementarity that exists among these different types of formulations, by presenting an overall view of the tools that can be used in the phase of conceptual design, of detail design and in the operational phase. Emphasis is on Marine Technology in that most of the applications presented are related either to offshore platforms or to ships. However, the applicability of the methods presented is not restricted to this field. In particular, the contributions on reliability of systems are very general and applicable to any type of system repairable or non-repairable. The work is broadly organised in three sections dealing with risk assessment, structural reliability and system reliability. In the first section the main methods of quantitative risk analysis are presented together with case studies that provide an illustration of how they can be applied. The section on structural reliability presents the probalistic formulations that are required for the reliability assessment of the marine structures. The last section deals with reliability of systems, a formulation that is essential for the different types of equipment existing in ship and offshore platforms. Contributions are by a group of international experts in the field.
