Download or read book Reliability Analysis and Plans for Successive Testing written by Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability Analysis and Plans for Successive Testing: Start-up Demonstration Tests and Applications discusses all past and recent developments on start-up demonstration tests in the context of current numerical and illustrative examples to clarify available methods for distribution theorists and applied mathematicians dealing with control problems. Throughout the book, the authors focus on the panorama of open problems and issues of further interest. As contemporary manufacturers face tremendous commercial pressures to assemble works of high reliability, defined as 'the probability of the product performing its role under the stated conditions and over a specified period of time', this book helps address testing issues. - Unites the tools and methodologies of applied statistics and stochastic modeling to aid the determination of device reliability for better performing consumer goods - Clearly articulates how successive testing methods can be used in practice - Comments not only on distribution sequences closed, but also on open problems and issues of further interest for researchers

Download or read book Reliability Growth written by Panel on Reliability Growth Methods for Defense Systems and published by National Academy Press. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high percentage of defense systems fail to meet their reliability requirements. This is a serious problem for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), as well as the nation. Those systems are not only less likely to successfully carry out their intended missions, but they also could endanger the lives of the operators. Furthermore, reliability failures discovered after deployment can result in costly and strategic delays and the need for expensive redesign, which often limits the tactical situations in which the system can be used. Finally, systems that fail to meet their reliability requirements are much more likely to need additional scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and to need more spare parts and possibly replacement systems, all of which can substantially increase the life-cycle costs of a system. Beginning in 2008, DOD undertook a concerted effort to raise the priority of reliability through greater use of design for reliability techniques, reliability growth testing, and formal reliability growth modeling, by both the contractors and DOD units. To this end, handbooks, guidances, and formal memoranda were revised or newly issued to reduce the frequency of reliability deficiencies for defense systems in operational testing and the effects of those deficiencies. "Reliability Growth" evaluates these recent changes and, more generally, assesses how current DOD principles and practices could be modified to increase the likelihood that defense systems will satisfy their reliability requirements. This report examines changes to the reliability requirements for proposed systems; defines modern design and testing for reliability; discusses the contractor's role in reliability testing; and summarizes the current state of formal reliability growth modeling. The recommendations of "Reliability Growth" will improve the reliability of defense systems and protect the health of the valuable personnel who operate them.

Book Multiple Objective Optimization in Reliability Demonstration Test

Download or read book Multiple Objective Optimization in Reliability Demonstration Test written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability demonstration tests are usually performed in product design or validation processes to demonstrate whether a product meets specified requirements on reliability. For binomial demonstration tests, the zero-failure test has been most commonly used due to its simplicity and use of minimum sample size to achieve an acceptable consumer's risk level. However, this test can often result in unacceptably high risk for producers as well as a low probability of passing the test even when the product has good reliability. This paper explicitly explores the interrelationship between multiple objectives that are commonly of interest when planning a demonstration test and proposes structured decision-making procedures using a Pareto front approach for selecting an optimal test plan based on simultaneously balancing multiple criteria. Different strategies are suggested for scenarios with different user priorities and graphical tools are developed to help quantify the trade-offs between choices and to facilitate informed decision making. As a result, potential impacts of some subjective user inputs on the final decision are studied to offer insights and useful guidance for general applications.
