Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider humankind existing in the distant future. Perhaps they are the extraterrestrials speculated to exist following anomalous sightings on planet Earth of today. Maybe it is ourselves in a different anatomical guise who are the ‘visitors’... In the distant future, planet Earth is a much-altered place in which the sun has aged and is bombarding the Earth with deadly solar particles. John Powell is the last surviving human and is battling to save mankind from extinction by abducting humans from the past and genetically engineering them to survive in the harsh environment. John’s aim is to repopulate the Earth as part of a Great Plan for survival. “The responsibility weighed heavily on John’s shoulders. He was unsure why he felt such a heavy burden. After all, there was no-one left to be accountable to.” However, an unprecedented violent solar eruption kills his experimental subjects and he has to abandon the Earth with his family and a few other survivors and undertake a long space voyage while safely placed in stasis. When released from stasis and still onboard the spacecraft, John and his family are shocked to discover that the other occupants have formed two conflicting astral religions, the Muons and the Pions. Escaping from the turmoil, John and his family utilise a portal acting as a time-travel device to return to the old Earth and start over. The spacecraft continues on its journey and lands on a habitable planet, leaving the Muons and Pions to sort out their own destiny... Release from Stasis: The Future is Now is the sequel to Disclosure: The Future is Now; another science fiction story of time travel, human survival and human dilemma. It will appeal to science fiction enthusiasts and those interested in the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Book Traditional Chinese Medicine In The Treatment Of Post covid 19 Syndrome

Download or read book Traditional Chinese Medicine In The Treatment Of Post covid 19 Syndrome written by Dan Jiang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-06-15 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic dominated the globe for at least three years, and infected a large proportion of the worldwide population. After the acute infection, many stay in poor health for months. The nature of this aftermath is not yet fully understood, therefore the management of this syndrome through biomedical therapy is not ideal. Health services are struggling to help those who are still suffering. The condition has now been recognised as post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) — providing a common platform for academic exchange.Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been applied to similar conditions for over 2,000 years, including in the aftermath of previous pandemics, and this understanding of such conditions has been validated in clinical practice. In TCM, patterns are established to group the weakness, the residue of pathogens or interaction between pathogens and the defence system. Those patterns form the framework for understanding the illness after acute infections. The authors use this ancient understanding in their own contemporary practice, which is particularly rewarding when the illness within PCS is treated with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and other therapies in tandem. This is the holistic TCM approach strongly recommended by the authors as they demonstrate great outcomes. The whole-system TCM approach for PCS is now presented in this book to health professions for PCS.

Download or read book D H Lawrence Transport and Cultural Transition written by Andrew F. Humphries and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses D. H. Lawrence’s interest in, and engagement with, transport as a literal and metaphorical focal point for his ontological concerns. Focusing on five key novels, this book explores issues of mobility, modernity and gender. First exploring how mechanized transportation reflects industry and patriarchy in Sons and Lovers, the book then considers issues of female mobility in The Rainbow, the signifying of war transport in Women in Love, revolution and the meeting of primitive and modern in The Plumed Serpent, and the reflection of dystopian post-war concerns in Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Appealing to Lawrence, modernist, and mobilities researchers, this book is also of interest to readers interested in early twentieth century society, the First World War and transport history.

Book excerpt: Warning: It is essential to read the trilogy in the correct order – FEDERATION; FEDERATION & EARTH; and finally HIDDEN FEDERATION. Alien university professor and author, Yol Rummy Blin Breganin, continues his research on the planet Earth. He introduces, into this final volume, some stories from the distant past of the Federation, which provide a greater insight into the vast alien empire. In the only free and independent part of the planet Earth – the United States of America – the populace is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the growing authoritarianism. With California in revolt, can the USA retain its own independence in this rebellious climate? Elsewhere on Earth, in the Federation territories, is life becoming too comfortable for the ordinary humans? Will the world be allowed to settle down to its life of luxury or will it turn the new utopia into hell as it has always done in the past? The final part of the Federation Trilogy contains the answers.

Book Essentials of Chinese Medicine

Download or read book Essentials of Chinese Medicine written by Zhanwen Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-08 with total page 1590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Essentials of Chinese Medicine is a text book intended for international students who wish to gain a basic understanding of Chinese Medicine (CM) at the university level. The idea of writing such a text was originated from the Sino-American Consortium for the Advancement of Chinese Medicine (SACACM), which was founded in February 2000. In 1995, the British Hong Kong Administration set up a Preparatory Committee for the Development of Chinese Medicine to look into ways of bringing Chinese medical practice and herbal trade under proper control and r- ulation. After the reuni?cation of Hong Kong with mainland China in 1997, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region continued the efforts to uplift the practice of CM to a fully professional level through legislation. To help bring up a new generation of professional CM practitioners, the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) obtained approval from the Government’s univ- sity funding authority to develop a School of Chinese Medicine to prepare students who will meet the future professional requirements through public examinations. In order to establish itself quickly as a rigorous provider of university level CM education, HKBU sought alliance with eight major CM universities in the Chinese Mainland, and one US university which was interested in developing CM edu- tion within its medical college. As a result, the Consortium known as SACACM was formed, with ten founding institutions from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Sh- dong, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Heilongjiang, Hong Kong, and the United States.
