Download or read book Relax It s Just Sex written by Leslie Spurr Ph.D. and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surveying the many forms of non-possessive intimate relationships, this book explains how these alternative lifestyle arrangements work, psychologically, and describes the benefits and risks for those involved within contemporary contexts such as swinging, threesomes, polyamory, and recreational sex clubs. The thought that one could have sex with outsiders with the consent and support of your spouse or significant other, and still love and make love with your primary partner, is a radical notion for most men and women. And yet, an increasing number of married and unmarried couples are doing just this, and their relationships are flourishing as a result. Relax, It's Just Sex: Understanding Non-Possessive Intimate Relationships examines a relatively new form of intimate relationship that is increasingly popular among contemporary couples and singles. The book introduces the term "non-possessive intimate relationships" and shows from a psychological perspective how these arrangements work, emotionally and cognitively, for the individuals involved. Licensed clinical psychologist and relationship therapist Leslie Spurr, PhD, explores the psychologically issues involved and then takes a close look at various examples of the non-possessive intimate relationship style within several, mostly covert, contexts, in which relationship partners agree to provide each other with the freedom to engage intimately with outsiders. Written in a nontechnical, accessible style, Relax, It's Just Sex uses humor and references to popular culture, including films, novels, and songs, to engage the reader in content that is primarily informative but also entertaining. This important and eye-opening book makes clear the significance and reasons for the growing popularity of the non-possessive intimate relationship phenomenon and explains why and how this "lovestyle" may constitute a sexual revolution.

Book Relax It s Just God

Download or read book Relax It s Just God written by Wendy Thomas Russell and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold-medal winner of a Next Generation Book Award, silver-medal winner of the Independent Publishers Book Award. As featured on the PBS NewsHour “A gem of a book.” — LIBRARY JOURNAL (STARRED REVIEW) A step-by-step guide to raising confident, open-minded kids in an age of religious intolerance. Relax, It's Just God offers parents fresh, practical and honest ways to address issues of God and faith with children while promoting curiosity and kindness, and successfully fending off indoctrination. A rapidly growing demographic cohort in America, secular parents are at the forefront of a major and unprecedented cultural shift. Unable to fall back on what they were taught as children, many of these parents are struggling, or simply failing, to address issues of God, religion and faith with their children in ways that promote honesty, curiosity, kindness and independence. The author sifts through hard data, including the results of a survey of 1,000 nonreligious parents, and delivers gentle but straightforward advice to both non-believers and open-minded believers. With a thoughtful voice infused with humor, Russell seamlessly merges scientific thought, scholarly research and everyday experience with respect for a full range of ways to view the world. "Relax, It's Just God" goes beyond the numbers to assist parents (and grandparents) who may be struggling to find the right time place, tone and language with which to talk about God, spirituality and organized religion. It encourages parents to promote religious literacy and understanding and to support kids as they explore religion on their own -- ensuring that each child makes up his or her own mind about what to believe (or not believe) and extends love and respect to those who may not agree with them. Subjects covered include: • Talking openly about our beliefs without indoctrinating kids • Making religious literacy fun and engaging • Talking about death without the comforts of heaven • Navigating religious differences with extended family members • What to do when kids get threatened with hell

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the things that has been missing during the debate over the NHS is something that speaks to the experiences of normal folk and reminds people just what an amazing thing a public national health service really is. Like so many British people, I have used the NHS for a number of reasons throughout my life—some serious, others less so—but where would I be now without it? I honestly don't know." In this funny, irreverent book, Carl Walker represents the average stories of average people whose lives are routinely and often unnoticeably held together by the people who work in the NHS. These are the people who patch us up, sew us up, radiate, advise, scan, plaster, console, repair, inject, and support us, before delivering us back home to carry out our everyday affairs. A sharply observed collection of sometimes outrageous, often excruciating, but always entertaining accounts of different interactions with one of Britain's greatest treasures. All royalties from the sale of this book will go to the NHS Support Federation.

Terry has gone to Vietnam as a medic, and Nick has been to Costa Rica as a Peace Corps Volunteer. When Terry returns to St. Louis to join his wife, Jenny, and his one-year old son, he pursues his commitment to God by becoming a minister in a local Lutheran church and dedicates his life to serving Christ. Nick too returns to St. Louis where he marries his high school sweetheart, Lolly, and graduates from college with a PhD in Geophysics. Lolly has become a pediatrician and balances her time as a doctor with the scheduled piano tours she makes worldwide to raise money for a medical clinic and shelter she has founded for the homeless in North St. Louis. Jenny, on the other hand, is busy running a dance studio and directing the St. Louis Ballet Company. Their hectic schedules soon lead to rising tension in their relationships, and they soon find themselves drifting apart and questioning their purposes in life. However, their lives are forever changed when they all decide to travel to Europe together to provide support and encouragement to Terry's brother, David, who is competing in the Olympics. It is only then that David realizes he has been given a special gift from God and that it is to be used to pursue and vanquish the evil that has emerged when a familiar face from the past suddenly appears.

Book Can integrated titles improve the viewing experience

Download or read book Can integrated titles improve the viewing experience written by Wendy Fox and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically a dubbing country, Germany is not well-known for subtitled productions. But while dubbing is predominant in Germany, more and more German viewers prefer original and subtitled versions of their favourite shows and films. Conventional subtitling, however, can be seen as a strong intrusion into the original image that can not only disrupt but also destroy the director’s intended shot composition and focus points. Long eye movements between focus points and subtitles decrease the viewer’s information intake, and especially German audiences, who are often not used to subtitles, seem to prefer to wait for the next subtitle instead of looking back up again. Furthermore, not only the placement, but also the overall design of conventional subtitles can disturb the image composition – for instance titles with a weak contrast, inappropriate typeface or irritating colour system. So should it not, despite the translation process, be possible to preserve both image and sound as far as possible? Especially given today’s numerous artistic and technical possibilities and the huge amount of work that goes into the visual aspects of a film, taking into account not only special effects, but also typefaces, opening credits and text-image compositions. A further development of existing subtitling guidelines would not only express respect towards the original film version but also the translator’s work. The presented study shows how integrated titles can increase information intake while maintaining the intended image composition and focus points as well as the aesthetics of the shot compositions. During a three-stage experiment, the specifically for this purpose created integrated titles in the documentary “Joining the Dots” by director Pablo Romero-Fresco were analysed with the help of eye movement data from more than 45 participants. Titles were placed based on the gaze behaviour of English native speakers and then rated by German viewers dependant on a German translation. The results show that a reduction of the distance between intended focus points and titles allow the viewers more time to explore the image and connect the titles to the plot. The integrated titles were rated as more aesthetically pleasing and reading durations were shorter than with conventional subtitles. Based on the analysis of graphic design and filmmaking rules as well as conventional subtitling standards, a first workflow and set of placement strategies for integrated titles were created in order to allow a more respectful handling of film material as well as the preservation of the original image composition and typographic film identity.

Book Reflective Theory and Practice in Teacher Education

Download or read book Reflective Theory and Practice in Teacher Education written by Robyn Brandenburg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a detailed examination of reflective practice in teacher education. In the current educational context, where reflective practice has been mandated in professional standards for teachers in many countries, it analyses research-based evidence for the power of reflective practice to shape better educational outcomes. The book presents multiple theoretical and practical views of this often taken-for-granted practice, so that readers are challenged to consider how factors such as gender and race shape understandings of reflective practice. Documenting approaches that enhance learning, the contributions discuss reflective practice across the globe, with a focus on pre-service, in-service and university teachers. At a time when there is pressure to measure teachers’ work through standardised tests, the book highlights the professional thinking that is integral to teaching and demonstrates ways it can be encouraged in beginning teachers. Aimed at the international community of teacher educators in schools and universities, it also includes a critical examination of methodological issues in analysing and evaluating reflective practice and showcases the kind of reflective practice that empowers teachers and pre-service teachers to make a difference to students.

Book Prophecies Visions Occurrences and Dreams

Download or read book Prophecies Visions Occurrences and Dreams written by Raymond Aguilera and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-06-15 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prophecies, Visions, Occurrences and Dreams is an apocalyptic book. Since 1990, Raymond Aguilera began to receive prophecies, visions and warnings from God about the end of our world as we know it. These messages range from abortion, to the New Age movement, to Pastors who have misled the flock. They reveal things to come, things that now are and things that should not be... From hope, to love, to doom, to a new beginning, herein lies a broad range of insight from a whole new perspective. The prophecies are simple and straight forward, written from a first-hand perspective. They fly in the face of orthodox tradition and are a thorn in the side to everyone who has already made up his mind and heart on how the end is to come and who God is. This has the potential of being one of the most controversial books of the year.
