Book Corporate Finance

Download or read book Corporate Finance written by Terence C.M. Tse and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corporate Finance: The Basics is a concise introduction to the inner workings of finance at the company level. It aims to take the fear out of corporate finance and add the fun in, presenting the subject in a way that is simple to grasp and easy to digest. Its aim is to explain – and demystify – the essential ideas of corporate finance, avoiding the heavy use of maths and formulae. The calculations and figures in the book are purely to illustrate fundamental concepts, appealing to readers’ common sense, rather than stretching their ability to do "number-crunching". This fully revised edition takes into account the most recent developments in the corporate financial landscape, including: the longer-term ramifications of the 2008 financial crisis, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, rising inflation and the current economic climate, and the effect of environmental, social and governance (ESG) on a company’s financial decisions. A brand-new chapter which seeks to answer the question of how to manage growing businesses from a finance perspective is also included. Through the use of a subject map, this book explains how the key components of the subject are connected with each other, strengthening the reader’s understanding. This book is the ideal introduction for anyone looking for a short yet scholarly overview of corporate finance.

Book The Volatility Machine

Download or read book The Volatility Machine written by Michael Pettis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-05-17 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a radically different argument for what has caused, and likely will continue to cause, the collapse of emerging market economies. Pettis combines the insights of economic history, economic theory, and finance theory into a comprehensive model for understanding sovereign liability management and the causes of financial crises. He examines recent financial crises in emerging market countries along with the history of international lending since the 1820s to argue that the process of international lending is driven primarily by external events and not by local politics and/or economic policies. He draws out the corporate finance implications of this approach to argue that most of the current analyses of the recent financial crises suffered by Latin America, Asia, and Russia have largely missed the point. He then develops a sovereign finance model, analogous to corporate finance, to understand the capital structure needs of emerging market countries. Using this model, he finally puts into perspective the recent crises, a new sovereign liability management theory, the implications of the model for sovereign debt restructurings, and the new financial architecture. Bridging the gap between finance specialists and traders, on the one hand, and economists and policy-makers on the other, The Volatility Machine is critical reading for anyone interested in where the international economy is going over the next several years.

Book Economics Accounting and the True Nature of Capitalism

Download or read book Economics Accounting and the True Nature of Capitalism written by Jacques Richard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost all economists, whether classical, neoclassical or Marxist, have failed in their analyses of capitalism to consider the underpinning systems of accounting. This book draws attention to this lacuna, focusing specifically on the concept of capital: a major concept that dominates all teaching and practice in both economics and management. It is argued that while for the practitioners of capitalism – in accounting and business – the capital in their accounts is a debt to be repaid (or a thing to be kept), for economists, it has been considered a means (or even a resource or an asset) intended to be worn out. This category error has led to economists failing to comprehend the true nature of capitalism. On this basis, this book proposes a new definition of capitalism that brings about considerable changes in the attitude to be had towards this economic system, in particular, the means to bring about its replacement. This book will be of significant interest to readers of political economy, history of economic thought, critical accounting and heterodox economics.
