Download or read book Relationship Between Cardiovascular Endurance and Academic Achievement Among Tenth Grade Students written by Danielle Rose Dickman and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical activity is an important factor to help foster a student's academic achievement. This study was designed to explore the relationship between cardiovascular endurance and academic achievement among 10th grade students using the 3rd Generation Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment mile run test and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test in science (CAPT Science) standardized test score. The goal was to determine if cardiovascular endurance is related to academic achievement. Participants (N = 317) included 10th grade students, aged 14-16 years, at William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut. Both female (n = 163) and male (n = 154) were included in this study. Two measurements were used for each participant. The Connecticut Academic Performance Test in science was used to assess academic achievement and the 3rd Generation Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment timed mile run test was used to assess cardiovascular endurance. The fitness test data was the student's total timed mile run in seconds. Academic achievement was determined by the raw score for each student on the Connecticut Academic Performance Assessment Test in science (CAPT Science). These measurements were based upon normal classroom activities and curricular content. The relationship between cardiovascular endurance and academic achievement was determined by exploring a correlation between the students CAPT Science total raw score and their mile run time in seconds on the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment. The data was analyzed with a Pearson's Correlation test using Statistical Pack for the Social Science (SPSS) software. A relationship between cardiovascular endurance and academic achievement was found, r = -.395, p

Book Examining the Relationship Between Fitness Levels and Academic Achievement

Download or read book Examining the Relationship Between Fitness Levels and Academic Achievement written by Sarah Lee Beckedahl and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the fitness levels of sixth grade students as measured by the Cooper Fitness Gram and compare those findings with academic achievement as measured by the Northwest Evaluation Association Measure of Academic Progress. Results showed that on five of six fitness tests there were no significant differences between fit and unfit students. Students with higher endurance run scores did, however, score significantly higher in math and reading than did students with lower endurance run scores. Fit females scored higher than unfit females, whereas fit males did not have higher math or reading scores than unfit males. Although the results of this study did not prove causation they did show a strong positive correlation between the cardiovascular fitness of students and their academic achievement.

Book Relationship Between Aerobic Fitness and Academic Achievement in Seattle Secondary School Children

Download or read book Relationship Between Aerobic Fitness and Academic Achievement in Seattle Secondary School Children written by Jamie Kowatch and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerobic fitness is an important measure of physical fitness and has been shown to affect academic achievement in youth. We hypothesized that aerobic fitness was positively associated with standardized test scores, independent of demographic and medical factors. Further, we hypothesized that the academic risk score, an aggregate measure of course failure rate, standardized test performance, attendance, and number of disciplinary actions, would moderate this association. This was a cross-sectional study of 18,312 Seattle Public Schools students in grades four through twelve. For every one minute students ran the one-mile distance slower, there was a 2 percentile reduction in math and reading MAP scores. Further, meeting criterion-based fitness standards was associated with a 10 and 7 percentile increase in math and reading MAP scores, respectively. The academic risk score did attenuate these associations, but all associations stayed statistically significant. Results from this study indicate that percentile test scores on standardized tests in school-aged children are higher among children who achieve aerobic fitness standards, compared to those who do not achieve aerobic fitness standards.

Book Relationships Between Students Fitness Levels and Academic Achievement

Download or read book Relationships Between Students Fitness Levels and Academic Achievement written by Theresa Linam Roberts and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study compared fifth grade students' physical fitness levels to academic achievement based on the premise that health and physical fitness has an effect on one's ability to learn and achieve academically. Due to No Child Left Behind and the mounting pressures to reach Adequate Yearly Progress, many school officials view non-assessed activities like physical education and recess as unnecessary, consequently creating a case for the elimination of any subject that is not directly measured through standardized testing. Finding a link between fitness and academic achievement may cause educational leaders to reevaluate time spent during the school day. Data was collected for 113 students during the 2008-2009 school year by using the FitnessGram, STAR Reading and Math Percentiles, and Grade Point Averages (GPA's). Through multiple regression, the researcher found statistically significant relationships between physical fitness and two of the three measures used for academic achievement: STAR Math Percentiles (p = 0.0063 0.05; R = 0.26 0.195) and GPA's (p = 0.0124 0.05; R = 0.23 0.195). Therefore, the hypothesis was accepted, validating a link between fitness and academic achievement. This study does not prove causality; it is more probable that physical fitness and academic achievement influence each other in ways that are still vague.

Book The Relationship Between Physical Fitness and Academic Performance in College Club Sports Students

Download or read book The Relationship Between Physical Fitness and Academic Performance in College Club Sports Students written by Jonathan Chung and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pursuing innovative strategies to improve academic performance is an ongoing priority for many higher education institutions. One area that evidence has shown to further enhance cognitive ability, memory, and focus, but also, enhance the emotional and social well-being of students is through regular physical fitness. The importance of this study was to explore whether the benefits of physical fitness would have a similar impact on academic performance in college club sports students as it does on children as literature is limited concerning this relationship surrounding the college-aged population. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between Just Jump System® scores and Grade Point Averages in college club sports students. This study used a quantitative correlational design to address the research questions and test the hypotheses. Archival data consisting of 122 college club sports students among nine club sports teams from a private higher education institution was used for this study. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation was conducted to analyze the archival data. The analyses revealed that there was no significant relationship between the two variables for the cumulative 2019-2020 academic year, the fall 2019, and spring 2020 semesters. The findings indicate that although no significant relationship was found, the overall mean for fitness scores were all above average or higher and the overall mean for grade point averages were all greater than a 3.0. Therefore, further research is recommended in order to determine whether there is a relationship between physical fitness and academic performance within the general college population.
