Book Relation of Water Levels in the Red River Alluvial Aquifer to Rainfall and Stages of the Red River Pool 2 Red River Waterway Alexandria Area Louisiana 1971 91

Download or read book Relation of Water Levels in the Red River Alluvial Aquifer to Rainfall and Stages of the Red River Pool 2 Red River Waterway Alexandria Area Louisiana 1971 91 written by Ronald C. Seanor and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red River alluvial aquifer is a relatively undeveloped source of large amounts of freshwater int he pool 2 area of the Red River waterway navigation project in Louisiana. Infiltration of rainfall provides the primary source of recharge to the alluvial aquifer. In general, ground-water levels are highest during December through May, when most of the rainfall occurs and evapotranspiration is low. Ground-water levels are lowest during September and October, when the least rainfall occurs and evapotranspiration is high. Water levels in the alluvial aquifer typically fluctuate 10 feet or less. However, these fluctuations can be much larger in wells near the river. The Red River is hydraulically connected to the alluvial aquifer, and ground-water levels near the river fluctuate in response to changes in river stage.

Book The 1993 Flood on the Mississippi River in Illinois

Download or read book The 1993 Flood on the Mississippi River in Illinois written by Nani G. Bhowmik and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lessons learned from this flood focus on the performance of the levees, governmental responses, the effects of flood fighting, change in stages due to levee breaches, flood modeling, and the lack of information dissemination to the public on the technical aspects of the flood. These lessons point out information gaps and the need for research in the areas of hydraulics and hydrology, meteorology, sediment transport and sedimentation, surface and ground-water interactions, water quality, and levees. The report presents a comprehensive summary of the 1993 flood as far as climate, hydrology, and hydraulics are concerned.

Book Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground Water Salinization

Download or read book Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground Water Salinization written by Charles W. Kreitler and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization offers a comprehensive look at the threat to the United States' freshwater resources due to salinization and outlines techniques that can be used to study the problem. The book reviews the seven major salt-water sources that commonly mix and deteriorate our fresh ground water (natural saline ground water, halite solution, sea-water intrusion, oil- and gas-field brines, agriculture effluents, saline seep, and road salting). Other topics covered are the characteristics of saltwater sources, geochemical parameters, and basic graphical and statistical methods that are frequently used in saltwater studies. The book also provides geographical charts showing the distribution of the major salt-water sources, illustrating which ones are potential sources in any given area in the United States.Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization describes the individual geochemical parameters used in identifying salinization and the information on how and where to obtain them. This is an informative book for anyone interested in the present and future quality of our fresh-water supply.
