Book Relaciones entre imagen y poder de la apariencia al panoptismo

Download or read book Relaciones entre imagen y poder de la apariencia al panoptismo written by Roberto Arnau Roselló and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-12-15 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Poetic Culture written by Christopher Beach and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Poetic Culture, Christopher Beach questions the cultural significance of poetry, both as a canonical system and as a contemporary practice. By analyzing issues such as poetry's loss of audience, the "anthology wars" of the 1950s and early 1960s, the academic and institutional orientation of current poetry, the poetry slam scene, and the efforts to use television as a medium for presenting poetry to a wider audience, Beach presents a sociocultural framework that is fundamental to an understanding of the poetic medium. While calling for new critical methods that allow us to examine poetry beyond the limits of the accepted contemporary canon, and beyond the terms in which canonical poetry is generally discussed and evaluated, Beach also makes a compelling case for poetry and its continued vitality both as an aesthetic form and as a site for the creation of community and value.

"Ron Silliman is a terrific prose critic ... positively bristles with intellectual and political energy of a very high order."--Bruce Boone. Cultural Studies. Linguistics.

Book The American Poetry Wax Museum

Download or read book The American Poetry Wax Museum written by Jed Rasula and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon literary criticism, cultural studies, and social history, this book examines the canonizing assumptions (and compulsions) that have fabricated an image of American poetry since World War II, foremost of which is the enshrinement of the self-expressive subject. The tone of the book oscillates between documentary and polemic in an attempt to preserve the tensions that underlie the field of American poetry and which are typically subdued by anthologists and glossed over by commentators. The first chapter offers a theoretical scaffolding intended to contextualize following chapters and to invite other poets and critics to consider what it means to assemble and police a national canon of poetry. Subsequent chapters examine scholarship on contemporary American poetry; the cultural politics of publication and reviewing (which excludes, women, people of color, and gays and lesbians from many poetry anthologies); and poetry in the academy and the role of the poetry workshop. Ten appendixes list American poetry anthologies, most anthologized poets, number of anthology appearances, poets by birthdate, first anthology appearances, anthologies in translation, prizes and awards, results of a search of the MLA bibliography on CD-ROM, critical discussions of American poets, and interviews/collections of poets' essays. Book excerpt: Spanning more than six decades of Sudan’s post-independence history, this collection features work by some of Sudan’s most renowned modern poets, largely unknown in the United States. Adil Babikir’s extensive introduction provides a conceptual framework to help the English reader understand the cultural context. Translated from Arabic, the collection addresses a wide range of themes—identity, love, politics, Sufism, patriotism, war, and philosophy—capturing the evolution of Sudan’s modern history and cultural intersections. Modern Sudanese Poetry features voices as diverse as the country’s ethnic, cultural, and natural composition. By bringing these voices together, Babikir provides a glimpse of Sudan’s poetry scene as well as the country’s modern history and post-independence trajectory.
