Book Guide for Design and Construction with Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Panels

Download or read book Guide for Design and Construction with Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Panels written by American Concrete Institute and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide is intended for use by architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, and manufacturers. Its purpose is to present, in a single source, information that can help those individuals design, specify, and construct with factory-reinforced panels of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). In this guide, introductory information on AAC is first presented, followed by a description of its manufacture, guidance on structural design using reinforced panels, and guidance on construction with such panels. The body of this guide ends with an extensive background chapter on the material characteristics of AAC, and the structural behavior and design of AAC elements.

Book SELF BUILDING WITH AUTOCLAVED AERATED CONCRETE BLOCKS

Download or read book SELF BUILDING WITH AUTOCLAVED AERATED CONCRETE BLOCKS written by Michael Keating and published by BuilderMaker. This book was released on 2024-03-22 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large format, print editons of this book, with full colour photos ilustrating the text descriptions, can be purchased at www.mybestseller.co.uk/M.Keating This is the story of our house build in Germany. This book is intended as a birds-eye view of the work, not a guide to absolutely everything involved with the process. I wrote it is to inform you, the prospective self-builder, on the work involved, in order to help you decide whether this is something you feel you could do yourself. It will not be physically possible to do absolutely everything by yourself, you will still occasionally need a helper or two and the building process may vary slightly in other countries due to availability of specific materials, but the basic procedures in the book remain valid. When we signed the contract for our building materials we were given a German book on self-building with AAC. I didn't speak German and could not find an appropriate English language book, so I decided to photo-document our entire construction process and write a book on it. Many of these photos are included in this book to aid to full comprehsion of the house build (there are no photos in the e-book).

Book Developments in fiber reinforced polymer FRP composites for civil engineering

Download or read book Developments in fiber reinforced polymer FRP composites for civil engineering written by N. Uddin and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-05-15 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter discusses design for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP)/autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) sandwich panels for structural applications. The chapter first presents the finite element analysis (FE) of FRP/AAC panels. The FE results are compared with the experimental results showing acceptable agreement. Next, analytical models are presented to predict the deflection and strength of the panels. Finally, design graphs have been developed to help in designing the floor and wall panels made from FRP/AAC panels. Also, those panels have been compared to the commercially used reinforced AAC panels demonstrating that FRP/AAC panels offer a relatively cost-effective solution for longer life cycle.

Book Developments in fiber reinforced polymer FRP composites for civil engineering

Download or read book Developments in fiber reinforced polymer FRP composites for civil engineering written by N. Uddin and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-05-15 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The low velocity impact response of plain autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and FRP/AAC sandwich panels has been investigated. The structural sandwich panels composed of a FRP/AAC combination have shown excellent characteristics in terms of high strength and high stiffness-to-weight ratios. In addition to having adequate flexural and shear properties, the behavior of FRP/AAC sandwich panels needs to be investigated when subjected to impact loading. During service, the structural members in the building structures are subjected to impact loading that varies from object-caused impact, blast due to explosions, to high velocity impact of debris during tornados, hurricanes, or storms. Low velocity impact (LVI) testing serves as a means to quantify the allowable impact energy that the structure is able to withstand and to assess the typical failure modes encountered during this type of loading. The objectives of this chapter are: to study the response of plain AAC and CFRP/AAC sandwich structures to low velocity impact and to assess the damage performance of the panels; to study the effect of FRP laminates on the impact response of CFRP/AAC panels; to study the effect of the processing method (hand layup versus VARTM) and panel stiffness on the impact response of the hybrid panels. Impact testing was conducted using an Instron drop-tower testing machine. Experimental results showed a significant influence of CFRPs laminates on the energy absorbed and peak load of the CFRP/AAC panels. Further, a theoretical analysis was conducted to predict the energy absorbed by the CFRP/AAC sandwich panel using the energy balance model, and the results found were in good accordance with the experimental ones.

Book Behavior of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Reinforced Thin Panel Sheathing Elements for Walls and Floor Diaphragms

Download or read book Behavior of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Reinforced Thin Panel Sheathing Elements for Walls and Floor Diaphragms written by Caleb J. Jennings and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is a precast, lightweight, porous, cementitious building material that has many advantages over conventional building materials: its porous structure results in higher thermal resistance compared to conventional concrete; its light weight corresponds to reduced structure dead loads and greater ease of constructability; it is dimensionally stable; and it possesses consistent material properties because it is only produced in highly specialized production plants. Design of AAC structures and components requires that certain material properties be known. As such, a material testing program has been performed as a subset of this research project. AAC material and component tests were conducted to determine: compressive strength; moisture content and dry bulk density; drying shrinkage; modulus of elasticity; thin bed mortar splitting tension capacity; modulus of rupture; resistance to concentrated loads; fastener lateral shear capacity; fastener pull-through capacity; and corrosion resistance of wire mesh reinforcement. Buildings consist of gravity and lateral force resisting systems; an adequate design of both is crucial for the functionality of a structure and safety of its occupants. Lateral forces, such as those introduced by wind or seismic loads, are transmitted to floor diaphragms which, in-turn, distribute those forces to lateral force resisting systems such as moment frames, braced frames, or shear walls. It is typical for residential, or small scale buildings to feature shear walls as the primary lateral force resisting system. To effectively design light-frame AAC structures to resist lateral loads, an accurate knowledge of the strength and behavior characteristics of floor diaphragms and shear walls is required. The results of a suite of ten monotonic, in-plane AAC floor diaphragm tests, featuring reinforced AAC panels attached to light-gauge steel or wood framing materials, are presented and analyzed using a unique strut-and-tie model. Similarly, the results of four monotonic, racking-load shear wall tests, featuring reinforced AAC panels attached to light-gauge steel or wood framing materials, are presented and analyzed using an existing model. Analysis techniques for both floor diaphragms and shear wall specimens provide acceptable lower bound solutions for ultimate load capacity.
