Book Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques Second Edition

Download or read book Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques Second Edition written by Harry G. Harris and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-03-30 with total page 806 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques presents a current treatment of structural modeling for applications in design, research, education, and product development. Providing numerous case studies throughout, the book emphasizes modeling the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete and masonry structures. Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques: Concentrates on the modeling of the true inelastic behavior of structures Provides case histories detailing applications of the modeling techniques to real structures Discusses the historical background of model analysis and similitude principles governing the design, testing, and interpretation of models Evaluates the limitations and benefits of elastic models Analyzes materials for reinforced concrete masonry and steel models Assesses the critical nature of scale effects of model testing Describes selected laboratory techniques and loading methods Contains material on errors as well as the accuracy and reliability of physical modeling Examines dynamic similitude and modeling techniques for studying dynamic loading of structures Covers actual applications of structural modeling This book serves students in model analysis and experimental methods, professionals manufacturing and testing structural models, as well as professionals testing large or full-scale structures - since the instrumentation techniques and overall approaches for testing large structures are very similar to those used in small-scale modeling work.

Book Model Analysis of Structures

Download or read book Model Analysis of Structures written by T.P. Ganesan and published by Universities Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to introduce the basic principles and techniques of model studies, which will prove very useful for analysis design and review of structural design, especially of those structures which are not amenable to treatment by the usually simpler and faster theoretical methods.

Book Physical Models

Download or read book Physical Models written by Bill Addis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-09-25 with total page 1114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical models have been, and continue to be used by engineers when faced with unprecedented challenges, when engineering science has been non-existent or inadequate, and in any other situation when the engineer has needed to raise their confidence in a design proposal to a sufficient level to begin construction. For this reason, models have mostly been used by designers and constructors of highly innovative projects, when previous experience has not been available. The book covers the history of using of physical models in the design and development of civil and building engineering projects including bridges in the mid-18th century, William Fairbairn?s Britannia bridge in the 1840s, the masonry Aswan Dam in the 1890s, concrete dams in the 1920s, thin concrete shell roofs and the dynamic behaviour of tall buildings in earthquakes from the 1930s, tidal flow in estuaries and the acoustics of concert halls from the 1950s, and cable-net and membrane structures in the 1960s. Traditionally, progress in engineering has been attributed to the creation and use of engineering science, the understanding materials properties and the development of new construction methods. The book argues that the use of reduced scale models have played an equally important part in the development of civil and building engineering. However, like the history of engineering design itself, this crucial contribution has not been widely reported or celebrated. The book concludes with reviews of the current use of physical models alongside computer models, for example, in boundary layer wind tunnels, room acoustics, seismic engineering, hydrology, and air flow in buildings.

Book Statical and Geomechanical Models

Download or read book Statical and Geomechanical Models written by Emanuele Fumagalli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It gives me much pleasure to introduce this work of Prof. Dr. Ing. Fumagalli, a work that covers both the development and present state of the art of structural model techniques. In my view, in this context, only a lack of understanding of the possibilities offered by experiments on models and sometimes an unjustified suspicion of them have up to now restricted the development that these methods deserve. I think, in particular, and the many examples quoted in the text bear witness to this, that models today constitute an efficient means of research that have been refined through advances in the methods of reproduction, testing and measurement. They represent a reliable and above all safe method of investigation, suitable for use in the elastic range and beyond up to failure, as much for historic ancient monuments as for modern works and structures of particularly bold design that are frequently highly redundant. They are a particularly valuable tool in areas where analytical methods are inadequate, and yet always useful for comparison with analytical results. Guido Oberti Preface I have embarked on writing a text on the techniques of structural models for two basic reasons: Firstly because I wish to attempt in some measure a personal appreciation of the subject based on more than twenty years experience, insofar as this can be achieved in a logically coherent and complete treatise.

Book Advances in Concrete Slab Technology

Download or read book Advances in Concrete Slab Technology written by Ravindra K. Dhir OBE and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Concrete Slab Technology documents the proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Slabs held at Dundee University on April 3-6, 1979. This book discusses the influence of steel fiber-reinforcement on the shear strength of slab-column connections; sulfur-treated concrete slabs; yield line analysis of orthotropicaly reinforced exterior panels of flat slab floors; and behavior of flat slab/edge column joints. The design of multiple panel flat slab structures; structural behavior of floor slabs in shear wall buildings; shrinkage and cracking of concrete at early ages; and slab construction for HAB system modules are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the direct finishing of concrete slabs using the early age power grinding technique; application of vacuum dewatering to in-situ slab production; retexturing of concrete slabs; and fatigue resistance of composite precast and in situ concrete floors. This publication is a good reference for students and individuals concerned with the practices and research relating to slab technology.
