Download or read book An Evaluation of Experimental Rehabilitation Work Redwood National Park written by William E. Weaver and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Evaluation of Experimental Rehabilitation Work, Redwood National Park: Redwood National Park Watershed Rehabilitation, Technical Report Number 19 In March 1978, Redwood National Park was expanded by acres, including acres of logged redwood forest land. Before these lands were added to the park, timber harvesting and related road construction had accelerated naturally high erosion rates and sediment deposition, and adversely affected water quality throughout the entire Redwood Creek basin (janda and others, The congressional action which expanded the park to include these cutover areas (pl 95-250) authorized that a rehabilitation program be developed to minimize man induced erosion and to encourage the return of a natural vegetation pattern This report describes and evaluates erosion control and revegetation work completed in 1979, the first fully funded year of the park's watershed rehabilitation program. Since early work in 1977-78, the rehabilitation program quickly evolved into a multifaceted effort with three major objectives (usdi, First, most erosion control work was directly designed to minimize the amount of sediment delivered to stream channels from areas disturbed by past logging and road building activities. Secondly, to encourage a return of the natural pattern of vegetation of prairies and logged timberlands, a revegetation and vegetation management program was initiated. Finally, selected projects have been undertaken to restore and protect aquatic and riparian resources within tributaries and along the main channel of Redwood Creek. Schrepfer very ably traces the changes in scientific wisdom from nineteenth-century romanticism and teleological evolutionism to more current ecological dynamism—and the influence of those intellectual developments on political history. . . . The subject is important—much broader than the title suggests—and so is the book."—American Historical Review

Book Watershed Rehabilitation in Redwood National Park and Other Pacific Coastal Areas

Download or read book Watershed Rehabilitation in Redwood National Park and Other Pacific Coastal Areas written by R. N. Coats and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Watershed Rehabilitation in Redwood National Park and Other Pacific Coastal Areas: Proceedings of a Symposium Held August 24-28, 1981 Much of the concern over erosion from forested coastal areas is directed more to the degradation of stream resources by the eroded material than to the loss of soil and nutrients from hillslopes. Consequently, erosion management is often deemed successful if eroded material does not enter a stream. Further more, it is often commonly assumed that ground disturbance and erosion are closely correlated, and that soil detachment and movement increase the likeli hood that sediment will be transported to and by a stream. Such assumptions are usually weak links in understanding and controlling erosion. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
