Book Regulating Work in Small Firms

Download or read book Regulating Work in Small Firms written by Ida Regalia and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the diversity of small firms, this contributed volume focuses on the crucial topic of work and the ways in which it is regulated, and offers reflections on the future of labour more generally. Traditionally managed through informal and adaptive processes, small firms allow us to understand the challenges and opportunities facing larger companies within an increasingly fragmented global production system. Analysing the case of Italy, a country characterised by a high number and wide variety of small firms, the authors draw on the results of a survey involving over 2,300 firms and face-to-face interviews with owner-managers working in 60 small and micro firms across several different sectors. Providing detailed analysis which will be useful for scholars of human resource management and small business, as well as managers, practitioners and policy-makers, the book enables a better understanding of the world of work in a globalised economy.

Book The Impact of Regulatory Costs on Small Firms

Download or read book The Impact of Regulatory Costs on Small Firms written by Nicole V. Crain and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. The annual cost of federal regulations in the U.S. increased to more than $1.75 trillion in 2008. Had every U.S. household paid an equal share of the federal regulatory burden, each would have owed $15,586 in 2008. While all citizens and businesses pay some portion of these costs, the distribution of the burden of regulations is quite uneven. The portion of regulatory costs that falls initially on businesses was $8,086 per employee in 2008. Small businesses, defined as firms employing fewer than 20 employees, bear the largest burden of federal regulations. This report shows that as of 2008, small businesses face an annual regulatory cost of $10,585 per employee, which is 36% higher than the regulatory cost facing large firms (500+ employees). Ill.

Book Measuring the Impact of Regulation on Small Firms

Download or read book Measuring the Impact of Regulation on Small Firms written by David Dole and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small firms are an important part of any economy, since they generate a large proportion of an economy's new jobs. Despite their apparent vitality, though, small firms are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of government regulation. Analyzing the impact of regulation on small firms is especially important for federal agencies in the U.S., since federal law requires agencies to conduct such studies. This study sets forth a simple economic theory of regulatory impact, and presents some tools that a regulatory body can use to evaluate the potential impact of a new regulation on small firms.

Book The Future Regulation of Work

Download or read book The Future Regulation of Work written by Nicole Busby and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labour law is in crisis. Global economic factors and the changing contours of work and workplace relations have led to a reorientation of the social, economic, political and cultural environment within which labour law has developed. This is not a jurisdictional problem but rather is deeply entrenched in transnational development. Solutions must recognise and mobilise the transformational shift that has taken place over recent decades. Law should be viewed as a force for and a facilitator of change, capable of expressing and determining social relations. The essays in this book explore the challenges posed by labour law's potential reinvention as a discipline fit for accommodating and investigating such change within a range of different but connected jurisdictional and regulatory concepts and paradigms.

Book In the Name of Entrepreneurship

Download or read book In the Name of Entrepreneurship written by Susan M. Gates and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There has been ongoing concern that some regulations, rules, and government policies place a disproportionate burden on small businesses and entrepreneurs. For this reason, small businesses often receive special regulatory treatment, such as exemptions from legislation or extended deadlines for compliance. However, the desire to support small businesses can come into conflict with the interest in addressing the concerns that led to the regulation or policy in the first place. Moreover, it is often unclear whether special regulatory treatment for small businesses is having the intended effect. This book sheds light on these issues through analysis of the regulatory and public policy environment with regard to small businesses, including focused studies in four key areas: health insurance, workplace safety, corporate governance, and business organization. The authors offer support for the idea that the regulatory environment has a different effect on the behavior of small businesses than it has on that of large ones. However, they also demonstrate that policies designed specifically to help small businesses do not always have the intended effect. The lack of a consistent definition of small business confounds our understanding of these issues. The book suggests possible directions for future policy that achieves a better balance between the interest in restricting firm behavior through regulation and the desire to encourage small businesses and entrepreneurs." -- p.
