Book Policies Aimed at Reducing Regional Disparity During Pre and Post Reforms in Karnataka

Download or read book Policies Aimed at Reducing Regional Disparity During Pre and Post Reforms in Karnataka written by Dr. S.R Keshava and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regional Disparities has always remained a serious matter of concern. It is well know that in a large country like India, blessed with different regions and with various factor endowments like natural resources, human resources and knowledge would result in dissimilar growth path over time. Most of the economic activities were carried in few metropolitan cities keeping the other areas in the backwaters of underdevelopment. Not only marked disparities in economic development at the state level existed, but in fact all the states were characterised by sharp intra-regional disparities. Removal of regional disparities and establishment of regional development in the country was one of the objectives of economic planning and the policy makers always strive hard to achieve the objective of balanced regional development. The fifth five year plan 1974-79 and sixth five year plan 1980-85 emphasised the need for regional planning to reduce inter-district and intra-district imbalances in all the states of the country including Karnataka. The planning commission set up a National Committee on the development of backward areas (1978-1981). Further, in order to redress the imbalances between North and South Karnataka, a High Power Committee for Redressal of Regional Imbalances [HPC FRRI] in October 2000 was set up. The Special Development plan and the Backward Region Grant Fund are the major programmes to reduce the regional imbalances; these efforts have led to an increased in the levels of economic and human development in most backward and more backward taluks. Keywords: Regional Disparities, Economic Planning, Regional Planning, Economic and Human Development & Regional Development.

Book Disparities in Literacy Rate in Karnataka

Download or read book Disparities in Literacy Rate in Karnataka written by Dinesha T. and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Karnataka major disparities are seen in Human Development, Educational level, Economic infrastructures, Health Infrastructure, Literacy Level and in Income Level. Among this, disparity in literacy rate is one the most debated topic since it is a constitutional right of every citizen. Disparity in education or literacy rate will lead to disparity in human development as well as economic development. In the back drop of inclusive growth strategy of India, it is necessary to understand the regional disparity in educational development. Since, literacy plays an important role in overall development of a human being and studies revealed that there is a positive correlation between literacy rate and human development, income level, health, information, confidence, dignity, empowerment and independence. Therefore, on the one hand there is an urgent need for reduction in the disparities in literacy level and on the other there is a need to improve the overall literacy level. All the states including Karnataka have given special prominence to education, which has been an integral part of economic planning. However, disparities in literacy level still exists and the conditions in backward districts still worse. Against this background the present study discusses some important perspectives on the regional disparities in literacy rate existing in Karnataka. The objectives of the study are; to understand the magnitude of district wise, gender wise and region wise disparity in literacy rate in Karnataka; To highlight the measures taken by the government to address regional disparity; To suggest suitable policy alternatives. The paper is based on the secondary sources of data and it was gathered from publications of state and central government for different time periods, journals, books etc.

Book Economic Growth in Latin America

Download or read book Economic Growth in Latin America written by Mr.Jose De Gregorio and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1991-07-01 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies growth determinants in 12 Latin American countries during the period 1950-85. In a simple growth accounting framework, the share of labor in income is found to be lower in the sample group than in developed countries, while factor productivity growth accounts for a larger proportion of growth in the fastest growing countries in the sample. Using panel data, macroeconomic stability is found to play, in addition to investment (physical and human), a crucial role in growth. To a lesser extent, growth is negatively correlated with government consumption and political instability. The terms of trade appear to have no significant effect on growth.

Book DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION IN HYDERABAD KARNATAKA REGION

This book was released on 2023-12-02 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important ingredients of socio-economic development that has attracted the attention of the planners, policy makers and leaders in the recent past is education. It is an established fact that education is an important catalyst of socio-economic transformation. In the advanced industrial societies of the world, education is provided by the states as a matter of right to all citizens. 1 The role of education was recognised as vital in arousing an awakening among the Indian masses even in the pre-independence era. Its contribution in breaking the shackles of slavery cannot be undermined as far as it helped in the growth of an enlightened intelligentsia, which carried forward not only the movement for independence but also a relentless struggle for socio economic reforms. After independence our planners, policy makers, and leaders placed immense faith in education as an important means of socio-economic transformation and modernization. Since the attainment of independence in 1947 Central and State governments of India very rightly embarked on a crusade against ignorance by expanding the facilities for education at all levels.2 The number of schools and of students attending them began to increase by leaps and bounds all over the country. There is no denying the fact that India has made tremendous progress in the field of education especially after independence. But it may be mentioned here that our present education system is not without maladies and inadequacies.

Book Regional Development and Public Policy Challenges in India

Download or read book Regional Development and Public Policy Challenges in India written by Rakhee Bhattacharya and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book emphasizes the need for experimenting with more deliberate and rigorous policy processes to attain balanced regional development, which can promote both equity and efficiency in India’s development discourse. The institutional mechanisms for dealing with regional imbalance in India have not been very successful so far. With rising discrepancies in development, demand for autonomy continues along with a new dimension of regionalism arising from submerged identity along with political and economic aspirations, which demanded new channels for solution. So far, attempts to create space for autonomy have possibly not optimally accommodated the conceptual mechanisms like equity and democratic process. Thus democratizing policy process using six pillars of voice: knowledge, objective, fundamental values, implementation framework and public awareness can ensure a better policy outcome for dealing with the persistent challenges of regional disparity in India. This book further focuses on the need for democratizing the policy process for regional development through discussion and inclusion. Such a transition needs innovation in policy regime, which can be attained through following six pillars (i) Democratic voice of stakeholders in policy development and implementation; (ii) Clear policy objectives that advance the common good, based on voice; (iii) Unbiased, sound and comprehensive knowledge and data bases. (iv) Consistency with constitutional values; (v) A sound implementation framework ensuring user-friendliness, transparency and rationality of decision-making processes, effective grievance redress, clear accountability and independent evaluation; (vi) Public awareness and support of policies with relevant and public participation in implementation.

This book was released on 2022-03-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1.1 Introduction: The entrepreneurs of the small industry have a prominent role in a developing economy, as the success of these industrial enterprises depends largely upon the capabilities and the talents of the entrepreneurs and there by promotes the industrialization process. To make the small scale industry more dynamic in accelerating industrial development for facilitating larger employment generation and output expansion, there is an imperative need to promote the entrepreneurial talents as inadequate supply of entrepreneurs, constrains the process of rapid industrialization and that of sustaining the economic development. Industrialization has been considered as one of the strategies for accelerating the process of economic development particularly in the developing countries, and this in turn depends on the availability of a large number of innovative and dynamic entrepreneurs and it is necessary to promote the entrepreneurial base in the economy through expansion and diversification of the entrepreneurial talents since they generate employment opportunities and thereby reduce the regional imbalances and the concentration of economic power.
