Book Impact of Ethanol Use on Food Prices and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Download or read book Impact of Ethanol Use on Food Prices and Greenhouse Gas Emissions written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production and use of ethanol in the U.S. have been steadily increasing since 2001, boosted in part by production subsidies. That growth has exerted upward pressure on the price of corn and, ultimately, on the retail price of food, affecting both individual consumers and fed. expend. on nutritional support programs. It has also raised questions about the environmental consequences of replacing gasoline with ethanol. This analysis examines the relationship between increasing production of ethanol and rising prices for food. It estimated how much of the rise in food prices between 4/07 and 4/08 was due to an increase on the production of ethanol and how much that increase in prices might raise fed. expend. on food assistance programs. Tables and graphs.

Book Ethanol and a Changing Agricultural Landscape

Download or read book Ethanol and a Changing Agricultural Landscape written by Scott A. Malcolm and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 established specific targets for the production of biofuel in the U.S. Meeting these targets will increase demand for traditional ag. commodities used to produce ethanol, resulting in land-use, production, and price changes in the farm sector. This report summarizes the estimated effects of meeting the EISA targets for 2015 on regional ag. production and the environment. Meeting EISA targets for ethanol production will expand U.S. cropped acreage by 5 million acres by 2015, an increase of 1.6% over what would otherwise be expected. Much of the growth comes from corn acreage, which increases by 3.5% over baseline projections. Water quality and soil carbon will also be affected.

Book An Evaluation of Distller s Grain Price Relationships and Implications of Increased Ethanol Production on Grain Processing Practices in Commercial Feedlots

Download or read book An Evaluation of Distller s Grain Price Relationships and Implications of Increased Ethanol Production on Grain Processing Practices in Commercial Feedlots written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very rapid growth in the ethanol industry has led to a void of information regarding price dynamics and utilization of distiller's grains. Understanding market conditions is essential for livestock producers to make informed decisions in the procurement of feedstuffs, especially as grain price levels have recently increased substantially. In this study, distiller's grain price discovery dynamics are evaluated to develop an understanding of spatial price relationships. The knowledge of price relationships reveals that users of distiller's grain should shop around when procuring the feedstuff. Additionally, because animal performance may be altered with increased inclusion of distiller's grains, regional competitive advantages could shift fed cattle production to geographic regions characterized by high of ethanol production plants. Therefore, the cost of current grain processing methods are evaluated to enhance the awareness of regional competitiveness and long term sustainability. The combination of these two objectives allows producers to better realize the implications of the ethanol industry on their ability to maintain their operations into the near future.

Book The Economic Impact of the Demand for Ethanol

Download or read book The Economic Impact of the Demand for Ethanol written by Michael K. Evans and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethanol production is the third-largest user of corn, behind only feed & export uses. Ethanol production uses approximately 7% of the nation's corn crop which increases farm income & generates economic activity nationwide. This report is the first comprehensive analysis of the macroeconomic impacts of ethanol production. The conclusions in this report verify the cost-effectiveness of the federal ethanol program. In short, the partial excise tax exemption provided for ethanol blends is a non-inflationary incentive that creates jobs, stimulates tremendous economic activity, & reduces our trade imbalance.

Book Ethanol and Corn

Download or read book Ethanol and Corn written by Marilyn C. Walchuck and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. policy to expand the production of biofuel for domestic energy use has significant implications for agriculture and resource use. While ongoing research and development investment may radically alter the way biofuel is produced in the future, for now, corn-based ethanol continues to account for most biofuel production. As corn ethanol production increases, so does the production of corn. The effect on agricultural commodity markets has been national, but commodity production adjustments, and resulting environmental consequences, vary across regions. Changes in the crop sector have also affected the cost of feed for livestock producers. As the Nation demands more biofuel production, and markets for new biofuel feedstocks, such as crop residues emerge, the agricultural landscape will be further transformed. This book explores the changes and expanding usage of ethanol and corn biofuels.

Book The US and its rising Ethanol Production

Download or read book The US and its rising Ethanol Production written by Philip Elsen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009-11-10 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2007 in the subject Politics - Region: USA, The University of Sydney (Faculty of International Relations), language: English, abstract: The US and its rising Ethanol Production Abstract: In the 2007 State of the Union address,1 US President Bush called on the country to produce 35 billion gallons of biofuel a year by 2017. President Bush’s proposal to increase biofuel production will dramatically increase the volume of corn required by the US ethanol industry and will translate into higher prices for both processed and stable foods around the world. Consequently, corn-based ethanol will continue to tie oil and food prices together in ways that will profoundly upset the relationship between food producers and consumers, with potentially devastating implications for global poverty. In addition, it will only replace a small percentage of US fuel consumption. ANALYSIS: 1. The US Ethanol Market 2. Impacts for the US and world Agriculture 3. Increased US corn (food) prices and its effects 4. US Ethanol production- dependence oil and environmental benefits 5. Conclusion

Book Market Issues and Prospects for U S Distillers Grains Supply Use and Price Relationships

Download or read book Market Issues and Prospects for U S Distillers Grains Supply Use and Price Relationships written by Linwood A. Hoffman and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth in corn dry-mill ethanol production has surged in the past several years, simultaneously creating a co-product distillers' grains (DDGS). Many in the U.S. feed industry were concerned about the size of this new feed source and whether it could be used entirely by the feed industry, but they also worried about the price discovery process for the product. Provides a transparent methodology to estimate U.S. supply and consumption of DDGS. Potential domestic and export use of U.S. DDGS exceeds current production and is likely to exceed future production as ethanol production continues to grow. Identifies the DDGS price discovery process along with the price relationships of distillers' grains, corn, and soybean meal. Illus. A print on demand report.
