Book Regenerative simulation of response times in networks of queues II multiple job types

Download or read book Regenerative simulation of response times in networks of queues II multiple job types written by International Business Machines Corporation. Research Division and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writers have previously discussed the simulation of networks of queues for general characteristics of passage times of a single job type, using the regenerative method for simulation and the idea of tracking a distinguished job through the network. In this paper, they consider from a somewhat different point of view passage time simulation in closed networks for queues having multiple job types. Their results provide a means of obtaining, from a single replication, point and interval estimates for passage times of the several job types. They also yield a statistically more efficient estimation procedure for passage times of a single job type.

Book Regenerative Simulation of Response Times in Networks of Queues Statistical Efficiency

Download or read book Regenerative Simulation of Response Times in Networks of Queues Statistical Efficiency written by Thomas J. Watson IBM Research Center and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report the calculation of variance constants entering into central limit theorems used to obtain confidence intervals from passage time simulations is considered. Using results of Hordijk, Iglehart, and Schassberger for the calculation of moments in discrete time and continuous time Markov chains, we calculate variance constants pertinent to mean passage times. This is done first for the 'marked job method' for passsage time simulation which is based on the tracking of a distinguished job, and then for the 'decomposition method' in which observed passage times for all of the jobs enter into the construction of point and interval estimates. The results of this paper provide a means of comparing the statistical efficiency of the two estimation methods.

Book Regeneration and Networks of Queues

Download or read book Regeneration and Networks of Queues written by Gerald S. Shedler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Networks of queues arise frequently as models for a wide variety of congestion phenomena. Discrete event simulation is often the only available means for studying the behavior of complex networks and many such simulations are non Markovian in the sense that the underlying stochastic process cannot be repre sented as a continuous time Markov chain with countable state space. Based on representation of the underlying stochastic process of the simulation as a gen eralized semi-Markov process, this book develops probabilistic and statistical methods for discrete event simulation of networks of queues. The emphasis is on the use of underlying regenerative stochastic process structure for the design of simulation experiments and the analysis of simulation output. The most obvious methodological advantage of simulation is that in principle it is applicable to stochastic systems of arbitrary complexity. In practice, however, it is often a decidedly nontrivial matter to obtain from a simulation information that is both useful and accurate, and to obtain it in an efficient manner. These difficulties arise primarily from the inherent variability in a stochastic system, and it is necessary to seek theoretically sound and computationally efficient methods for carrying out the simulation. Apart from implementation consider ations, important concerns for simulation relate to efficient methods for generating sample paths of the underlying stochastic process. the design of simulation ex periments, and the analysis of simulation output.

Book Statistical Efficiency of Regenerative Simulation Methods for Networks of Queues

Download or read book Statistical Efficiency of Regenerative Simulation Methods for Networks of Queues written by Donald L. Iglehart and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When developing simulation methodology, it is important to be able to assess the statistical efficiency of proposed estimation procedures. This paper is concerned with the assessment of the statistical efficiency of regenerative methods for simulation of networks of queues with general service times. Our estimation procedures are applicable to networks that have a single state for passage times; regenerative cycles are defined in terms of the single state. We provide a comparison of two methods for estimation of passage time characteristics in closed networks with priorities among job classes. Passage times(informally the times for a job to traverse a portion of a network) are important in computer and communication system models where they represent job response times.

Book Frontiers in Queueing

Download or read book Frontiers in Queueing written by Jewgeni H. Dshalalow and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-01-21 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queueing systems and networks are being applied to many areas of technology today, including telecommunications, computers, satellite systems, and traffic processes. This timely book, written by 26 of the most respected and influential researchers in the field, provides an overview of fundamental queueing systems and networks as applied to these technologies. Frontiers in Queueing: Models and Applications in Science and Engineering was written with more of an engineering slant than its predecessor, Advances in Queueing: Theory, Methods, and Open Problems. The earlier book was primarily concerned with methods, and was more theoretically oriented. This new volume, meant to be a sequel to the first book, was written by scientists and queueing theorists whose expertise is in technology and engineering, allowing readers to answer questions regarding the technicalities of related methods from the earlier book. Each chapter in the book surveys the classes of queueing models and networks, or the applied methods in queueing, and is followed by a discussion of open problems and future research directions. The discussion of these future trends is especially important to novice researchers, students, and even their advisors, as it provides the perspectives of eminent scientists in each area, thus showing where research efforts should be focused. Frontiers in Queueing: Models and Applications in Science and Engineering also includes applications to vital areas of engineering and technology, specifically, telecommunications, computers and computer networks, satellite systems, traffic processes, and more applied methods such as simulation, statistics, and numerical methods. All researchers, from students to advanced professionals, can benefit from the sound advice and perspective of the contributors represented in this book.
