It is also designed to help prepare those groups who have already made such a commitment, and assist them in their plans and organization of the sponsorship activity. Compiled by the Working Group on Refugee Resettlement, and supported by the United Church of Canada and The Toronto Diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada, the guidebook begins with an overview of how refugees come to Canada, and considers three types of sponsorship - full, partnership, joint sponsorship. It then deals briefly with financial guarantees, costs, making the decision, and filing the sponsorship. The major chapters of the book treat planning and preparation; arrival, initial settlement and orientation; and long-term adjustments. The planning and preparation chapter highlights a number of practical steps to be taken, including forming a committee organization and committee responsibilities - finance, housing, health, etc. The arrival, initial settlement and orientation chapter includes helpful suggestions from arrival at the airoport, to mail, to religious practices. In the final section several areas of ongoing attention are noted, such as language, employment, relatives, and reaching the end to the sponsorship period. A number of appendices include information focusing on resources available in Canada, especially in and around Toronto.
