  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2017-04-18
  • ISBN : 1524704652
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book Drawdown written by Paul Hawken and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • New York Times bestseller • The 100 most substantive solutions to reverse global warming, based on meticulous research by leading scientists and policymakers around the world “At this point in time, the Drawdown book is exactly what is needed; a credible, conservative solution-by-solution narrative that we can do it. Reading it is an effective inoculation against the widespread perception of doom that humanity cannot and will not solve the climate crisis. Reported by-effects include increased determination and a sense of grounded hope.” —Per Espen Stoknes, Author, What We Think About When We Try Not To Think About Global Warming “There’s been no real way for ordinary people to get an understanding of what they can do and what impact it can have. There remains no single, comprehensive, reliable compendium of carbon-reduction solutions across sectors. At least until now. . . . The public is hungry for this kind of practical wisdom.” —David Roberts, Vox “This is the ideal environmental sciences textbook—only it is too interesting and inspiring to be called a textbook.” —Peter Kareiva, Director of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, UCLA In the face of widespread fear and apathy, an international coalition of researchers, professionals, and scientists have come together to offer a set of realistic and bold solutions to climate change. One hundred techniques and practices are described here—some are well known; some you may have never heard of. They range from clean energy to educating girls in lower-income countries to land use practices that pull carbon out of the air. The solutions exist, are economically viable, and communities throughout the world are currently enacting them with skill and determination. If deployed collectively on a global scale over the next thirty years, they represent a credible path forward, not just to slow the earth’s warming but to reach drawdown, that point in time when greenhouse gases in the atmosphere peak and begin to decline. These measures promise cascading benefits to human health, security, prosperity, and well-being—giving us every reason to see this planetary crisis as an opportunity to create a just and livable world.

Book After Cooling

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eric Dean Wilson
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2022-07-19
  • ISBN : 1982111313
  • Pages : 480 pages

Download or read book After Cooling written by Eric Dean Wilson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “ambitious [and] delightful” (The New York Times) work of literary nonfiction interweaves the science and history of the powerful refrigerant (and dangerous greenhouse gas) Freon with a haunting meditation on how to live meaningfully and morally in a rapidly heating world. In After Cooling, Eric Dean Wilson braids together air-conditioning history, climate science, road trips, and philosophy to tell the story of the birth, life, and afterlife of Freon, the refrigerant that ripped a hole larger than the continental United States in the ozone layer. As he traces the refrigerant’s life span from its invention in the 1920s—when it was hailed as a miracle of scientific progress—to efforts in the 1980s to ban the chemical (and the resulting political backlash), Wilson finds himself on a journey through the American heartland, trailing a man who buys up old tanks of Freon stockpiled in attics and basements to destroy what remains of the chemical before it can do further harm. Wilson is at heart an essayist, looking far and wide to tease out what particular forces in American culture—in capitalism, in systemic racism, in our values—combined to lead us into the Freon crisis and then out. “Meticulously researched and engagingly written” (Amitav Ghosh), this “knockout debut” (New York Journal of Books) offers a rare glimpse of environmental hope, suggesting that maybe the vast and terrifying problem of global warming is not beyond our grasp to face.

Download or read book Protection of Stratospheric Ozone Update to the Refrigerant Management Requirements Under the Clean Air ACT Us Environmental Protection Agency Regulation Epa 2018 Edition written by Law Library and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-09 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protection of Stratospheric Ozone - Update to the Refrigerant Management Requirements under the Clean Air Act (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Protection of Stratospheric Ozone - Update to the Refrigerant Management Requirements under the Clean Air Act (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Clean Air Act prohibits the knowing release of ozone-depleting and substitute refrigerants during the course of maintaining, servicing, repairing, or disposing of appliances or industrial process refrigeration. The existing regulations require that persons maintaining, servicing, repairing, or disposing of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment containing more than 50 pounds of refrigerant observe certain service practices that reduce emissions of ozone-depleting refrigerant. This rule updates those existing requirements as well as extends them, as appropriate, to non-ozone depleting substitute refrigerants, such as hydrofluorocarbons. Updates include strengthened leak repair requirements, recordkeeping requirements for the disposal of appliances containing more than five and less than 50 pounds of refrigerant, revisions to the technician certification program, and revisions for improved readability and compliance. As a result, this action reduces emissions of ozone-depleting substances and gases with high global warming potentials. This book contains: - The complete text of the Protection of Stratospheric Ozone - Update to the Refrigerant Management Requirements under the Clean Air Act (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM) Program is a voluntary program designed to help facilities manage their ammonia refrigeration systems in a safe and responsible manner. It is meant to be used by facilities that operate relatively small ammonia refrigeration systems within industrial occupancy as defined by the building code and are not covered by the: Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard (29 CFR 1910.119); the Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Risk Management Program (RMP) Regulation (40 CFR Part 68); or any state-specific PSM or RMP requirements such as in New Jersey, Delaware and California. The ARM Guidelines outline the program and gives a detailed purpose and explanation for each component of the program and why it is necessary.

Book Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management ARM LC Guidelines 1st Edition

Download or read book Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management ARM LC Guidelines 1st Edition written by International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IIAR has developed the Low Charge Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM-LC) Guidebook to provide a detailed overview of the procedures recommended to implement a management program for low charge ammonia refrigeration systems with appropriate regulatory compliance. Owners of low charge ammonia systems may not be well versed in the terminology and practices required for compliance with the General Duty Clauses of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and state authorities. Further, the new equipment technology available allows the low charge ammonia systems to be used in a commercial, retail food, and light industrial application where technicians and operators are not typically on site and a service contractor business model is the general practice. The ARM-LC Guidebook uses general terms and directions to describe the specific practices and expectations of those involved with installing and using low charge ammonia systems.
