Book Refractive Index of a Liquid and Temperature

Download or read book Refractive Index of a Liquid and Temperature written by Gabby Ian and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Physics - Applied physics, grade: A, The Technical University of Kenya, language: English, abstract: After learning the refractive index concept in class, the author started wondering what will be the effect of changing temperature on the refractive index. Being a fan of swimming, concepts of apparent and real depth have always been fascinating to me. In this paper, he wanted to explore how the apparent and real depth of a liquid would change with an increase in temperature at different times of the day. The speed of light keeps changing as light moves from one medium to another of different optical densities. For instance, the speed of a ray of light moving from a denser medium to a rarer medium will decrease. If the ray reverse in the same direction, this time moving from a rarer medium to a denser medium, its speed will increase. Ideally, when the ray moves from a denser medium to a rarer medium, its particles collect together, hence reducing speed. On the other hand, when the ray is moving from the rarer medium to a denser medium, its particles spread out, and speed increases.

Book Refractive Index and Dispersion of Liquid Hydrogen

Download or read book Refractive Index and Dispersion of Liquid Hydrogen written by Robert Joseph Corruccini and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The published experimental values of the refractive index of liquid hydrogen have been correlated by calculating and comparing the values of the Lorentz-Lorenz ratio as a function of wavelength.Because of the scatter found by this analysis, it is proposed that more accurate values can be calculated from available data of other kinds, namely, the dielectric constants * determined by Stewart and the optical dispersion determined for the gas at STP.Formulas for this calculation are given.(Author).

Book Mechanisms for CO2 Sequestration in Geological Formations and Enhanced Gas Recovery

Download or read book Mechanisms for CO2 Sequestration in Geological Formations and Enhanced Gas Recovery written by Roozbeh Khosrokhavar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-28 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives background information why shale formations in the world are important both for storage capacity and enhanced gas recovery (EGR). Part of this book investigates the sequestration capacity in geological formations and the mechanisms for the enhanced storage rate of CO2 in an underlying saline aquifer. The growing concern about global warming has increased interest in geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2). The main mechanism of the enhancement, viz., the occurrence of gravity fingers, which are the vehicles of enhanced transport in saline aquifers, can be visualized using the Schlieren technique. In addition high pressure experiments confirmed that the storage rate is indeed enhanced in porous media. The book is appropriate for graduate students, researchers and advanced professionals in petroleum and chemical engineering. It provides the interested reader with in-depth insights into the possibilities and challenges of CO2 storage and the EGR prospect.
