Book An Uncommon Guide to Retirement

Download or read book An Uncommon Guide to Retirement written by Jeff Haanen and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What am I going to do with my retirement? People talk about retirement like it’s supposed to be an endless vacation. But what if, like the majority of those facing retirement, you can’t afford such a luxury? Or, what if you just want something more from retirement? Some advocate for no retirement at all. But you’ve worked for decades and a rest and reprieve do sound appealing. What should you do? Does God have a purpose for your retirement? Yes, He does. Learn how to discern what it is by taking an uncommon approach. Jeff Haanen looks biblically and practically at the need for rest and purpose in retirement. And teaches you how to: Take a sabbatical rest in early retirement Listen to God’s voice for their calling in retirement Rethink “work” in retirement Understand family systems and leaving a legacy Planning retirement doesn’t have to be distressing. Retire in a way that’s God-honoring, purpose-filled, restful, and truly biblical.

Book On Third Thought

Download or read book On Third Thought written by George Waas and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012, I wrote a memoir entitled "Retired . . . and Loving It!!" At that time, I covered every subject I wanted to write about, or so I thought. Then after publication, I began having second thoughts. Wait, that's not right. I had a second thought and decided not to write anything further. Then I had a third thought. I understand lots of people claim to have second thoughts about a particular matter, but if they have more than one, how can the one after the second also be a second thought? Frankly, I don't know how anyone can have second thoughts about the same subject. Anything beyond a second thought is a third, fourth, fifth, etc., at least by my count. It was on my third thought that, since I discovered other things to write about, I decided to set them out in a mini memoir as a sequel to my earlier book. I checked with an online publishing company and found several books entitled "On Second Thought" and "On Second Thoughts" and related titles. For those who chose the latter title, they probably didn't give it much thought. But I did, and I didn't find a single book that bore the title "On Third Thought." So that's the one I chose; as they say, the third time is the charm. This sequel to my 2012 bookmy mini memoirfocuses on three general subjects. First, my reflections on things past; second, living in the present, since it's the only time we can live (the past is history and the future lies ahead); and third, making sure that, to the best of my ability, my future is bright and enjoyable by remaining involved in matters of interest and importance to me. And if I can write a book about me, you can write one about you. So get on with it.

Book Into the Unknown

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anne Cockburn
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2017-12-10
  • ISBN : 9781981162239
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Into the Unknown written by Anne Cockburn and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are seldom neutral in their thoughts on retirement. Some relish the idea and visualise it as a long and carefree holiday. Others view it with anxiety and dread wondering about their financial futures and whether they will be bored as they, 'sit in God's waiting room'. Many are somewhere between these extremes and, quite naturally, are likely to have mixed feelings as the time to retirement comes upon them. 'Into the Unknown; early reflections on retirement' has been written by four retired professional women together with some guest writers. It covers a wide range of areas detailing many of the joys, challenges and newfound freedoms of the recently retired. Its intention is to provide as open and honest accounts as possible of the authors' own experiences and feelings enabling readers to explore their own thinking at this dramatic time in their lives. Such a springboard is designed to help others appreciate that they are not alone and that, despite some of the challenges they might face, retirement can be highly rewarding and fulfilling. The book is divided into three sections. The first are the authors' thoughts on retirement with each of them exploring issues raised by the lead author (Anne Cockburn). Key to these chapters is the way in which the writers discuss the transitions from working life into retirement. Thus, for example, 'Leaving the driving seat' examines some of the emotions and adjustments made from being a leader in the workplace to the adoption of more modest roles in a new daily environment. 'Routines' raises questions surrounding the need for some to have a specific structure to their day while 'Holidays' is a reminder that even the retired can benefit from a change of scene from time to time. The second section of the book features chapters from four guest writers. Chapters 18 and 19 present the thoughts of two people in the very early stages of their retirement and the challenges they face as they mentally endeavour to extricate themselves from many years of paid and highly intensive work. Chapter 20 details the case of Miranda whose retirement took an unexpected turn due to the unanticipated ill health of her husband. Richard Davies is the only male contributor. In his chapter - 'A theory of retirement in six-and-a half M's' - he explains his observations that life is much enhanced if, among other things, one has mates, money (not vast amounts but enough) and moral merriment. His theory was devised without his having read any other of the chapters in the book but clearly resonates with many of the contributions included. The final section is a summary of our thoughts having concluded the book and moved on to the next stage of retirement.
