Book Reflections of Fantasy

Download or read book Reflections of Fantasy written by Beverly Lyon Clark and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1986 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Victorian England non-realistic fiction was largely forced underground, with Alice, into such marginal fiction as fantasy for children. Only now is fantasy beginning to receive the attention it deserves, in both fiction and literary criticism. Beverly Lyon Clark's Reflections of Fantasy extends recent theoretical work on fantasy by exploring the technique of the mirror-world. Tracing the fantasy mirror-world in Carroll, Nabokov, and Pynchon allows Clark to shed light on the dialectic central to fantasy, that between the real and the not-real, and also on Victorian and contemporary views of fictional reality, on the use of metaphoric and metonymic modes, on the ramifications of self-consciousness. She explores these themes in analyses of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass, Anya v stranye chudes, Pale Fire, Ada, and The Crying of Lot 49.

Book REFLECTIONS FROM WITHIN

Download or read book REFLECTIONS FROM WITHIN written by ROLAND RUFFIN and published by Eternal Living Now. This book was released on 2022-07-27 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: REFLECTIONS FROM WITHIN Remembering our identity, before the creation of the Earth. “Remembering who you were, before you were born on earth, is the secret to understanding your existence as an Answer, and not as a question in this universe.” These words were included in the message, a visitor from another universe in the future, shared with Michael. The journey, to understanding this message from the future for Michael as a teenager, included personal transformation, and liberation for self-imprisoned captives on Frontier island, as well as receiving invitations to experience a lifestyle that exist past, present, and future, simultaneously. Michael became the change that he desired the world to become, while embarking on this extraordinary journey of living the future, within our present-Now. Michael, a bored seventeen-year-old teen on an island in the pacific, encountered a visitor from his future who informed Michael of his past life as a spiritual being. The encounter with the visitor from the future, who was also called the Chosen One on the island, forever changed Michael’s life as he learned the value and secrets of eternal living words, the importance of connections between all living and non-living things, the Source for the miraculous, and celestial truths about experiences that exist between life and death. The exciting journey Michael took after encountering the Chosen One, included the discovery of his multiple lifetimes, and the evolution of his personhood from nothingness, to becoming All that Is. Each stage of Michael’s growth in Awareness was directly, or indirectly, coached by the Chosen One, through well staged encounters on the island. Learning the meaning of existing as an Answer, rather than a question, was the thematic pursuit for Michael throughout this mind-blowing journey to self-discovery.

Book Distorted Reflections

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 148 pages

Download or read book Distorted Reflections written by Joli Nicol Barham and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between fantasy and reality has always been a close one as the primary world of authors' experiences is used to inform that of the fantastical secondary world, offering critique and insight into reality as we know it. Building on J.R.R. Tolkien's concepts of Recovery, Escape, and Reaction as functions of fantasy, the idea of Refraction as a function of fantasy is considered, a means by which authors of fantasy distortedly reflect reality in their tales in order to emphasize ills in modern society and suggest ways in which readers may take steps toward social transformation in their own lives. The contemporary fantasy works of J.K. Rowling, Eoin Colfer, and Philip Pullman all offer examples of Refraction, closely linking the primary and secondary worlds of fantasy to offer magic within "gaps" of the real, creating for readers worlds that are at once strange and strangely familiar. Such strange and strangely familiar worlds provide commentary on reality, clothing societal problems in fantasy such that they are less threatening and more easily perceived by readers of all ages. Thus, Rowling's Harry Potter speaks to the evils of prejudice and discrimination, Colfer's Artemis Fowl to the immorality of environmental mistreatment in the modern world, and Pullman's His Dark Materials to the dangers of organized religion, showcasing for readers the flaws inherent in human nature and suggesting ways in which we may all work to make our own world a better place.
