Book Reflecting at Knock

Download or read book Reflecting at Knock written by Thomas Lane (CM.) and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of ten reflections focusing on one of the central figures of the apparition at Knock - the Lamb of God. The author uses each reflection as a spiritual exercise deepening the reader's understanding of the Lamb as the continual giver of mercy and hope. He presents Knock as, at the same time, a Marian shrine and a shrine of the Lamb of God. Fr Lane examines the uniqueness of the shrine in helping us to cope with the contradictions and tensions in our daily lives, and to relate them to the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick that are celebrated at Knock with much faith and devotion. In the daily movement surrounding the historic gable wall, he points to many expressions of the mystery of the church. Here is a timeless book which will be invaluable as a rich source of spiritual nourishment.

With a heart full of prayer, Marion Carroll journeyed to Knock in the west of Ireland. For 17 years, Multiple Sclerosis had ravaged her body so utterly that this reluctant pilgrim travelled on a stretcher. Then, at the Mass, an unimaginable miracle. Marion rose, pain-free, to walk, talk and see once more. Thanks to this wondrous blessing, Marion has transformed - in her 'own small way' - the lives of countless others. Her ministries share her rock-like faith and devotion to God. They testify to the power of ordinary people to listen, to care, to inspire. Nearly 30 years later, the Catholic Church officially recognised Marion's cure as a proclaimed miracle. Here, with warmth, grace, humility - and down-to-earth Irish humour - she tells of her life 'before' and 'after'. Marion's powerful, uplifting story is unique. It shines a light on love, hope and a remarkable relationship with God.

Book The Knock at the Door

Download or read book The Knock at the Door written by Ryan Manion and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Gold Star women, linked forever by unimaginable loss, share their inspiring, unlikely journey that began on the worst day of their lives. What happens when tragedy knocks on your front door? For us, it was a literal knock, with two men standing in crisply pressed uniforms. They had news. News that gutted us to the core -- the death of our loved ones, a brother and two husbands -- in combat zones. The thing about those moments is that it's almost inconceivable that they can happen to you. That is, until they do. This book is for anyone who has ever received a knock at the door. And if you live long enough and have the courage to love others, you will. Maybe it's a cancer diagnosis. Maybe it's the death of your best friend. The betrayal of a spouse. The loss of a child. The implosion of a professional career. Or any tragedy that takes the person we love the most away from us too soon. Life is not without its challenges. The key is how you respond. This is our story. The story of three women, bonded by grief and purpose. Grief because we lost our best friends in war. Purpose because we resolved -- together -- to do something about it. To turn loss into inspiration for others and to channel the love that we had for the men in our lives into love for others through service. It was the only way we could escape the trap of despair and inaction, and we believe it offers a roadmap for anyone else who has ever had to answer a knock at the door.

Book REFLECTION

Download or read book REFLECTION written by Michael Blekhman and published by Litres. This book was released on 2018-12-20 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Blekhman's novel "Reflection" describes three generations of people living in the Soviet Union in the 20s, 30s, 40s of the XX century, as well as in a Jewish village Rechitsa in Belarus, in the XIX century. The novel is focused on a young couple, Klara Stolberg and Samuil Blekhman, their relatives and friends. The author and his characters seek to answer the central questions of human life. Together with them, Blekhman is reflecting on whether human beings can be happy, retain their individuality, be loved and love, dream and make their most cherished wishes come true despite all the tragic problems, which may seem insurmountable to the present generation. Blekhmn shows Klara and Samuil growing up, the boy becoming a man, and the girl turning into a woman, enjoying things that may seem not very important to others, but are quite significant to them. At the beginning of the novel, the female protagonist of the novel, Klara, who is 9 years old at that time, comes across an enigmatic line in a collections of poems by Alexander Pushkin: No happiness exists, just force of will and peace. In fact, Blekhman's novel is an attempt to answer the question, “Does happiness exist?” Together with his characters, the author answers, “Yes, it definitely does!”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A man who prays lives out the mystery of existence, and a man who does not pray scarcely exists.” Thus writes St. Charbel Makhlouf (1828–1898), a Maronite monk and priest from Lebanon whose reputation for sanctity spread widely during his life, and whose heavenly intercession has worked countless miracles after his death. St. Charbel’s homilies and proverbs are reminiscent of the sayings of the Desert Fathers: simple, homespun, and direct, yet shining and profound. This holy monk speaks from a reservoir of silence about the fundamentals of the Faith and targets the temptations facing all Christians today: the flight from suffering, excessive attachment to comforts, pride over accomplishments, complacency, factiousness, substituting talk for action, fear of proclaiming the truth in an age of hostile unbelief. Alert to the reality of spiritual warfare, St. Charbel calls each one of us to hold fast to the Cross, “the center of the universe and the key to heaven,” and defy the devil who seeks our ruin. This collection of some of the most beautiful words spoken by St. Charbel is augmented by a short biography that will bring him to the attention of those who have not yet made his acquaintance or profited from his wisdom.
