This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sociological theory is a supposition that aims to analyse objects of social reality from a sociological perspective. Sociological theories are a fundamental tool for analysing and understanding the complex nature of human society. Based on meticulous research, data analysis, and a variety of research designs and methodologies, sociologists observe and study social behaviour, patterns, and relationships to identify patterns and trends. It draws connections between individual concepts to organize and substantiate sociological knowledge. Sociological theories range in scope, from concise descriptions of a single social process to broad paradigms for analysis and interpretation.

Book Social Interaction Systems

Download or read book Social Interaction Systems written by Robert Bales and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Interaction Systems is the culmination of a half century of work in the field of social psychology by Robert Freed Bales, a pioneer at the Department of Social Relations at Harvard University. Led by Talcott Parsons, Gordon W. Allport, Henry A. Murray, and Clyde M. Kluckhohn, the Harvard Project was intended to establish an integrative framework for social psychology, one based on the interaction process, augmented by value content analysis. Bales sees this approach as a personal involvement that goes far beyond the classical experimental approach to the study of groups.Bales developed SYMLOG, which stands for systematic multiple level observation of groups. The SYMLOG Consulting Group approach was worldwide as well as interactive. It created a data bank that made possible a search for general laws of human interaction far beyond anything thus far known. In his daringsearch for universal features, Bales redefines the fundamental boundaries of the field, and in so doing establishes criteria for the behavior and values of leaders and followers. Bales offers a new "field theory," an appreciation of the multiple contexts in which people live.Bales does not aim to eradicate differences, but to understand them. In this sense, the values inherent in any interaction situation permit the psychologist to appreciate the sources of polarization as they actually exist: between conservative and liberal, individualistic and authoritarian, libertarian and communitarian. Bales repeatedly emphasizes that the mental processes of individuals and their social interactions take place in systematic contexts which can be measured. Hence they permit explanation and prediction of behavior in a more exact way than in past traditions. Bales has offered a pioneering work that has the potential to move us into a new theoretical epoch no less than a new century. His work holds out the promise of synthesis and support for psychologists, sociologists, and all who work with groups and organizations of all kinds.

Book Global Dissemination and Evolution of Epidemic Multidrug Resistant Gram Negative Bacterial Pathogens Surveillance Diagnosis and Treatment Volume II

Download or read book Global Dissemination and Evolution of Epidemic Multidrug Resistant Gram Negative Bacterial Pathogens Surveillance Diagnosis and Treatment Volume II written by Fang He and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-08-02 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inappropriate use of antibiotics and a lack of newly developed ones are the main contributors to the current antibiotic resistance crisis. The World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged that bacterial antibiotic resistance represents one of the biggest threats to global public health, increasing therapy costs and mortality rates in severe infections. The leading cause of nosocomial infections globally is primarily due to a league of gram-negative bacteria that readily develop antimicrobial resistance. They frequently cause severe disease and easily ‘escape’ the activity of antibiotics. However, many unanswered questions concerning the mechanisms of global dissemination and evolution patterns of these notorious epidemic multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacterial pathogens. Thus, the time is right now to arrange a Research Topic to present and highlight novel findings in this research field. This Research Topic highlights advances in understanding antimicrobial resistance mechanisms at the molecular level and the transmission dynamics and developing new treatments for multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria. This Research Topic welcomes genomic epidemiological studies to explore the molecular basis of antimicrobial resistance and to discover the new channels of resistance transmission between humans, animals, and the environment to encapsulate the ‘One Health’ concept. Also, surveillance on both global and local scales focuses on both the transmission of bacteria and the genes and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) that confer antimicrobial resistance to the ‘last-resort antimicrobial agents’ heightened virulence are more than welcome. Finally, studies that attempt to identify new resistance mechanisms, explore newly discovered antimicrobial agents, and introduce new techniques and methods for rapid detection, characterization, and elimination of multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria would be particularly welcome.

Book Integration of NGS in clinical and public health microbiology workflows applications compliance quality considerations

Download or read book Integration of NGS in clinical and public health microbiology workflows applications compliance quality considerations written by Varvara K. Kozyreva and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-02-05 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expansion of NGS implementation in clinical and public health practice accelerated drastically during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, where NGS has been playing a vital role in tracking dangerous strains of the virus. NGS applications not only influenced public health decision-making but also have been crossing into the clinical field with individual patients’ results being potentially available to the physicians. Hence, the topic of implementation of NGS methods in clinical and public health microbiology, its challenges and special considerations, is as timely as ever. The use of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in clinical and public health microbiology laboratories has been steadily expanding in the past decade. However, this progress has been held back by multiple logistical challenges, like the absence of regulatory compliance framework, lack of clear quality guidelines, the need for standardization and interoperability between laboratories, as well as cost and turn-around-time limitations.

Book Potato virus Y biodiversity pathogenicity epidemiology and management

Download or read book Potato virus Y biodiversity pathogenicity epidemiology and management written by Christophe Lacomme and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-10 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potato virus Y (PVY) infects a wide host range mainly within the Solanaceae and is distributed worldwide. PVY is transmitted by more than 40 aphid species in a non persistent manner. Isolates of the PVY species are highly variable at biological, serological and molecular levels. Epidemiological studies have highlighted the emergence of distinct potato PVY variants able to induce necroses on potato tubers. Due to the lack of efficient resistance to PVY isolates inducing necrotic symptoms in cultivated varieties and the plant-to-plant transmission of isolates through the daughter tubers, PVY has become the most economically important virus for the potato industry. The review offers an overview of several decades of research on PVY but also focuses on the latest data obtained by expert on PVY worldwide on the biological characteristics of PVY, interactions between aphids-hosts, its evolution and management. Identified knowledge gaps to understand further PVY biology will be discussed.

Book Game Changer Next Generation Sequencing and Its Impact on Food Microbiology

Download or read book Game Changer Next Generation Sequencing and Its Impact on Food Microbiology written by Jennifer Ronholm and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-04-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in next-generation sequencing technologies (NGS) are revolutionizing the field of food microbiology. Microbial whole genome sequencing (WGS) can provide identification, characterization, and subtyping of pathogens for epidemiological investigations at a level of precision previously not possible. This allows for connections and source attribution to be inferred between related isolates that may be overlooked by traditional techniques. The archiving and global sharing of genome sequences allow for retrospective analysis of virulence genes, antimicrobial resistance markers, mobile genetic elements and other novel genes. The advent of high-throughput 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, in combination with the advantages offered by massively parallel second-generation sequencing for metagenomics, enable intensive studies on the microbiomes of food products and the impact of foods on the human microbiome. These studies may one day lead to the development of reliable culture-independent methods for food monitoring and surveillance. Similarly, RNA-seq has provided insights into the transcriptomes and hence the behaviour of bacterial pathogens in food, food processing environments, and in interaction with the host at a resolution previously not achieved through the use of microarrays and/or RT-PCR. The vast un-tapped potential applications of NGS along with its rapidly declining costs, give this technology the ability to contribute significantly to consumer protection, global trade facilitation, and increased food safety and security. Despite the rapid advances, challenges remain. How will NGS data be incorporated into our existing global food safety infrastructure? How will massive NGS data be stored and shared globally? What bioinformatics solutions will be used to analyse and optimise these large data sets? This Research Topic discusses recent advances in the field of food microbiology made possible through the use of NGS.
