Book Groundwater Remediation and Petroleum

Download or read book Groundwater Remediation and Petroleum written by David C. Noonan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-05-03 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book presents state-of-the-art for treating groundwater contaminated with Petroleum Hydrocarbons, based on CDM's vast experience in treating contaminated groundwater using air stripping, GAC and biorestoration. Design issues and pitfalls to avoid when implementing treatment technologies are explained. Capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, unit costs are presented. Groundwater Remediation and Petroleum is the most comprehensive examination of these technologies and the implications of recent UST regulations. It provides hands-on information in the form of detailed step-by-step design procedures and case studies.

Book Aboveground Oil Storage Tanks

Download or read book Aboveground Oil Storage Tanks written by John B. Stephenson and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil leaks from aboveground tanks have contaminated soil and water, threatening human health and wildlife. To prevent damage from oil spills, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) rule in 1973. EPA¿s 10 regions inspect oil storage facilities to ensure compliance with the rule. EPA estimates that about 571,000 facilities are subject to this rule. Some states also regulate oil storage tanks. This report determines: (1) how EPA regions implement the SPCC program; (2) the data EPA has to implement and evaluate the program; and (3) whether some states¿ tank programs suggest ways for EPA to improve its program. Includes recommendations. Illustrations.

Book Detection Prevention and Remediation of Leaks from Underground Storage Tanks

Download or read book Detection Prevention and Remediation of Leaks from Underground Storage Tanks written by Canada. Environment Canada and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steel tanks have been used for underground storage of petroleum products and derivatives for about 30 years. The oldest tanks have now exceeded their design life and product leaks related to corrosion problems are increasing. The length of the tank's life is one of several factors which could result in a petroleum product leak, which can contaminate soil and water in the immediate surroundings. This report summarizes the different recovery and treatment techniques applicable to hydrocarbon contaminated soil and water due to tank leaks. Detection and prevention are briefly discussed and some examples of available equipment are given.

Book Environmental Protection

    Book Details:
  • Author : John B. Stephenson
  • Publisher : DIANE Publishing
  • Release : 2006-04
  • ISBN : 9781422304969

Download or read book Environmental Protection written by John B. Stephenson and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2006-04 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaking underground storage tanks that contain hazardous products, primarily gasoline, can contaminate soil & groundwater. To address this problem, the EPA required tank owners to install leak detection equipment & take measures to prevent leaks. In 1986, the Congress created a federal trust fund to assist states with cleanups. Cleanup progress has been made, but, as of early 2005, cleanup efforts had not yet begun for over 32,000 tanks. The report identified: (1) data on the number & cleanup status of leaking tanks; (2) funding sources for tank cleanups; & (3) processes used by 5 states with large numbers of leaking tanks -- Calif., Maryland, Mich., N. Carolina, & Penna. -- to identify, assess, & clean up sites. Illustrations.

Book Cost effective Remediation and Closure of Petroleum contaminated Sites

Download or read book Cost effective Remediation and Closure of Petroleum contaminated Sites written by Douglas C. Downey and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides environmental managers and their supporting technical specialists with a comprehensive strategy for cost-effectively cleaning up soils and groundwater contaminated by petroleum releases. It includes the most recent advances in site investigation techniques, low-cost remedial approaches, and technologies. It uses a "risk-based" process to answer key questions involved in developing a remediation or closure plan for a petroleum spill site. Several approaches are described that include risk management methods which use institutional controls to isolate contaminants from human contact and long-term monitoring to verify that natural attenuation is reducing future risk. More traditional risk evaluations and simplified RBCA methods are also presented that use site-specific exposure assumptions to develop risk-based cleanup objectives. Case studies illustrate how various combinations of land-use control, site-specific risk analysis, natural attenuation, and focused source reduction technologies have been used to obtain risk-based closures at sites across the United States.
