Book What Can Artificial Intelligence Do for Stagnant Productivity in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book What Can Artificial Intelligence Do for Stagnant Productivity in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Mr. Bas B. Bakker and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2024-10-11 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1980, income levels in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) have shown no convergence with those in the US, in stark contrast to emerging Asia and emerging Europe, which have seen rapid convergence. A key factor contributing to this divergence has been sluggish productivity growth in LAC. Low productivity growth has been broad-based across industries and firms in the formal sector, with limited diffusion of technology being an important contributing factor. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) hold significant potential to enhance productivity in the formal sector, foster its expansion, reduce informality, and facilitate LAC’s convergence with advanced economies. However, there is a risk that the region will fall behind advanced countries and frontier emerging markets in AI adoption. To capitalize on the benefits of AI, policies should aim to facilitate technological diffusion and job transition.

  • Author : Graham Russell
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2019-10-17
  • ISBN : 1509918604
  • Pages : 505 pages

Download or read book Regulatory Delivery written by Graham Russell and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-17 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking book addresses the challenge of regulatory delivery, defined as the way that regulatory agencies operate in practice to achieve the intended outcomes of regulation. Regulatory reform is moving beyond the design of regulation to address what good regulatory delivery looks like. The challenge in practice is to operate a regulatory regime that is both appropriate and effective. Questions of how regulations are received and applied by those whose behaviour they seek to control, and the way they are enforced, are vital in securing desired regulatory outcomes. This book, written by and for practitioners of regulatory delivery, explains the Regulatory Delivery Model, developed by Graham Russell and his team at the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The model sets out a framework to steer improvements to regulatory delivery, comprising three prerequisites for regulatory agencies to be able to operate effectively (Governance Frameworks, Accountability and Culture) and three practices for regulatory agencies to be able to deliver societal outcomes (Outcome Measurement, Risk-based Prioritisation and Intervention Choices). These elements are explored by an international group of experts in regulatory delivery reform, with case studies from around the world. Regulatory Delivery is the first product of members of the International Network for Delivery of Regulation.

Book excerpt: Manufacturing 4.0 The Use of Emergent Technologies in Manufacturing This book provides a comprehensive framework to understand and use Industry 4.0 emergent technologies in manufacturing for the hands-on engineers. It details the contribution of Lean and Manufacturing 4.0 to reduce and handle the increasing complexity experienced in the production floor. In addition, it classifies manufacturing under three attributes describing the way each of them modify it: Digital, Automated, and Additive. Each of these modifiers is presented as a chapter with a strategy, a detail description of the set of tools around them, and examples to make it easy to understand for the reader. The hype of industry 4.0 and its derivative technologies inevitably creates new business models but it also significantly impacts key process indicators. The integration, and exploitation of a subset of Industry 4.0 technologies is baptized as manufacturing 4.0 in this book. The book also outlines a manufacturing 4.0 implementation Strategy as part of the continuous improvement journey to assess, outline solutions, evaluate the benefit and risk, review with stakeholders, and create a portfolio. A roadmap provides a guideline together with all the explanations of the different technology applications in order to use it as a reference. The goal is for you to apply these technology enablers on the right problems to benefit your organization.
