The story takes place in a future where humanity has transformed the moon with numerous colonies and transitioned into a highly artificial intelligence environment where most servers in restaurants are robots, along with nurses and pilots of rockets. The main character goes through a transition from being an advanced systems engineer into a discoverer of humanity’s relationship with the Supreme Being and the potential for achieving immortality in the existence for humanity. He understands that to achieve such a state requires that humanity advance as one species while better understanding all other species of flora and fauna to appreciate total understanding of ecosystems and their requirements for advancement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dan Dagget believes that humanity can have a positive effect on the land. He demonstrates case after case of positive human engagement in the environment and of managed ecosystems and restored areas that are richer, more diverse, and healthier than unmanaged ones. Much of pre-Columbian America, he contends, was not a pristine wilderness but an ancient garden managed over millennia by native peoples who shaped the plant and animal communities around them to the mutual benefit of all. Dagget recommends a new kind of environmentalism based on management, science, evolution, and holism, and served by humans who enrich the environment even as they benefit from it. His new environmentalism offers hopeful solutions to the current ecological crisis and a new purpose for our human energies and ideals. This book is essential reading for anyone concerned with the earth and anyone seeking a viable way for our burgeoning human population to continue to live upon it.

Book The Renaissance Rediscovery of Intimacy

Download or read book The Renaissance Rediscovery of Intimacy written by Kathy Eden and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1345, when Petrarch recovered a lost collection of letters from Cicero to his best friend Atticus, he discovered an intimate Cicero, a man very different from either the well-known orator of the Roman forum or the measured spokesman for the ancient schools of philosophy. It was Petrarch’s encounter with this previously unknown Cicero and his letters that Kathy Eden argues fundamentally changed the way Europeans from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries were expected to read and write. The Renaissance Rediscovery of Intimacy explores the way ancient epistolary theory and practice were understood and imitated in the European Renaissance.Eden draws chiefly upon Aristotle, Cicero, and Seneca—but also upon Plato, Demetrius, Quintilian, and many others—to show how the classical genre of the “familiar” letter emerged centuries later in the intimate styles of Petrarch, Erasmus, and Montaigne. Along the way, she reveals how the complex concept of intimacy in the Renaissance—leveraging the legal, affective, and stylistic dimensions of its prehistory in antiquity—pervades the literary production and reception of the period and sets the course for much that is modern in the literature of subsequent centuries. Eden’s important study will interest students and scholars in a number of areas, including classical, Renaissance, and early modern studies; comparative literature; and the history of reading, rhetoric, and writing.

Download or read book Eden written by Ken Wisman and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EDEN is two stories: one fictional, one fact. The fiction: Calif De'Alsace, a man devoted to the dissemination of life across the galaxy, has taken a group of one hundred artists and scientists to a sterile world named Eden for the purpose of bioengineering living works of art. Calif, an Ankh idealist, has decreed that no weapons be brought and that the group create a "paradise of peace where beauty...not the law of tooth and claw...reigns." Unknown to the Eden group, Calif was forced by a powerful man to include an artist, Iamoendi, who has secretly been using drugs to enhance his imaging abilities. Iamoendi, who is descended from Fundamentalist factions that fought in the Religionist Wars, slowly goes insane. Believing himself an instrument of god, Iamoendi turns against Project Eden. He obtains the genome libraries (programmed instructions for bioengineering plants and animals) for insects and arachnids. Subsequently, he creates an army of huge insect warriors, and launches a secret attack against Project Eden. Thirteen survive Iamoendi's attack. Weaponless, they are forced to create living weapons in defense. With the battle lines drawn, the war begins. The survivors create a surprise defense of giganticized ant lions, trapdoor spiders, and carnivorous plants. They defeat Iamoendi's army, but Iamoendi escapes. Two more battles ensue in which Iamoendi's attacking monstrosities become increasingly bizarre and surreal. More and more survivors die with each battle leading to an ending both poignant and transcendent. The fact: In the spirit of Coleridge and Poe who used an opiate to enhance their poetic imagery, in the spirit of Huxley whose use of peyote awakened his awareness to the creative use of mind-altering substances, I have set down my own experiences with altered states as they relate to my creation of EDEN. My intent is to share my insights into the creative process as well as the source and derivation of both the philosophy underlying EDEN and the hallucinatory visions used in the telling of this story. It is a first person account of how, after being accidentally introduced to a hallucinogen, my subsequent use and experimentation became the stuff and substance of my novel EDEN.

Book Return to the Brain of Eden

Download or read book Return to the Brain of Eden written by Tony Wright and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of our fall from the pinnacle of human evolution 200,000 years ago and how we can begin our return • Explores recent neurological and psychological research on the brain and the role of plant biochemistry in human brain expansion • Explains how humanity’s prehistoric diet change led to a neurodegenerative condition characterized by aggression and a fearful perception of the world • Outlines a strategy of raw foods, tantric sexuality, shamanic practices, and entheogens to reverse our mental degeneration and restore our advanced abilities Over a period of a million years the human brain expanded at an increasingly rapid rate, and then, 200,000 years ago, the expansion abruptly stopped. Modern science has overlooked this in order to maintain that we are at the pinnacle of our evolution. However, the halt in brain expansion explains not only recently uncovered anomalies within the human brain but also the global traditions of an earthly paradise lost and of humanity’s degeneration from our original state of perpetual wonder and joy. Drawing on more than 20 years of research, authors Tony Wright and Graham Gynn explore how our modern brains are performing far below their potential and how we can unlock our higher abilities and return to the euphoria of Eden. They explain how for millions of years early forest-dwelling humans were primarily consuming the hormone-rich sex organs of plants--fruit--each containing a highly complex biochemical cocktail evolved to influence DNA transcription, rapid brain development, and elevated neural and pineal gland activity. Citing recent neurological and psychological studies, the authors explain how the loss of our symbiotic fruit-based diet led to a progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by aggressive behaviors, a fearful perception of the world, and the suppression of higher artistic, mathematical, and spiritual abilities. The authors show how many shamanic and spiritual traditions were developed to counteract our decline. They outline a strategy of raw foods, tantric sexuality, shamanic practices, and entheogen use to reverse our degeneration, restore our connection with the plant world, and regain the bliss and peace of the brain of Eden.

Restoring Eden also contains the reproducible strategy for prayer God gave them. The strategy is simple and it begins with this: if a united group of believers identify the various footholds the enemy has gained in their community, 'stand in the gap' in heartfelt repentance and then seek God's face in worship with humility of heart, we have His promise from scripture that He will hear our prayers and heal (restore) our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Book excerpt: Rob Young's Electric Eden: Unearthing Britain's Visionary Music is a seminal book on British music and cultural heritage, that spans the visionary classical and folk tradition from the nineteenth-century to the present day. 'A thoroughly enjoyable read and likely to remain the best-written overview for a long time.' GUARDIAN 'A perfectly timed, perfectly pitched alternative history of English folk music . . . wide-ranging, insightful, authoritative, thoroughly entertaining.' NEW STATESMAN 'A stunning achievement.' SIMON REYNOLDS 'A masterpiece.' CAUGHT BY THE RIVER 'Excellent . . . blissfully quotable.' NEW YORK TIMES 'An authoritative account.' THE TIMES 'Consistently absorbing.' INDEPENDENT 'An impassioned and infectious rallying cry of a book.' SUNDAY TIMES In this groundbreaking survey of more than a century of music making in the British Isles, Rob Young investigates how the idea of folk has been handed down and transformed by successive generations - song collectors, composers, Marxist revivalists, folk-rockers, psychedelic voyagers, free festival-goers, experimental pop stars and electronic innovators. In a sweeping panorama of Albion's soundscape that takes in the pioneer spirit of Cecil Sharp; the pastoral classicism of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Peter Warlock; the industrial folk revival of Ewan MacColl and A. L. Lloyd; the folk-rock of Fairport Convention, Sandy Denny, Nick Drake, Shirley Collins, John Martyn and Pentangle; the bucolic psychedelia of The Incredible String Band, The Beatles and Pink Floyd; the acid folk of Comus, Forest, Mr Fox and Trees; The Wicker Man and occult folklore; the early Glastonbury and Stonehenge festivals; and the visionary pop of Kate Bush, Julian Cope and Talk Talk, Electric Eden maps out a native British musical voice that reflects the complex relationships between town and country, progress and nostalgia, radicalism and conservatism. An attempt to isolate the 'Britishness' of British music - a wild combination of pagan echoes, spiritual quest, imaginative time-travel, pastoral innocence and electrified creativity - Electric Eden will be treasured by anyone interested in the tangled story of Britain's folk music and Arcadian dreams. 'A treat.' TIME OUT 'Young is a fine writer.' MOJO 'Young's immense narrative is both educative and gripping.' UNCUT 'A multitudinous, fascinating and beautifully written account.' TLS
