Book Payment and philanthropy in British healthcare 1918 48

Download or read book Payment and philanthropy in British healthcare 1918 48 written by George Campbell Gosling and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. This book is available as an open access ebook under a CC-BY-NC-ND licence. At a time when payment is claiming a greater place than ever before within the NHS, this book provides the first in-depth investigation of the workings, scale and meaning of payment in British hospitals before the NHS. There were only three decades in British history when it was the norm for patients to pay the hospital; those between the end of the First World War and the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948. Payment played an important part in redefining rather than abandoning medical philanthropy, based on class divisions and the notion of financial contribution as a civic duty. With new insights on the scope of private medicine and the workings of the means test in the hospital, as well as the civic, consumer and charitable meanings associated with paying the hospital, Gosling offers a fresh perspective on healthcare before the NHS and welfare before the welfare state.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several years ago, Eric Friedman decided to donate a substantial percentage of his income to charity. As many people do when making a big decision, he researched the best path he should take to accomplish his goal. After speaking with foundations, consultants, and nonprofit staff members, he found that few could adequately respond to his basic questions: How should donors choose the causes they support? How can donors maximize the impact of their giving? In Reinventing Philanthropy, Friedman shares the answers he found when exploring the world of charitable giving. What he discovered will help readers combine their business acumen with their compassion, soul-searching, and self-awareness so they can become highly effective donors. While many donors choose to direct their giving based on personal interests and passions, Friedman reinvents the best practices in philanthropic giving and demonstrates how the selection of donation recipients can be based more on maximizing a donation's benefits to those in need. He also provides specific strategies for effective giving, including the best ways to identify high-performance nonprofit organizations and the most important criteria for selecting causes to support.

Book Embracing a New Paradigm for Healthcare Philanthropy

Download or read book Embracing a New Paradigm for Healthcare Philanthropy written by Jennifer J. Capps and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healthcare reform is here to stay. If healthcare organizations and nonprofit organizations want to remain relevant or even exist to fulfill their missions and meet the ever increasing needs of the U.S. population, the time to embrace this change is now. Healthcare philanthropists are being elevated to higher levels of professionalism and are taking a seat among the ranks of leadership teams and decision makers. The burgeoning trend in the sector is for fundraisers and nonprofit leaders to view philanthropic dollars as a significant and strategic revenue source to fund health institutions across our nation. These organizations have come to depend on the revenue generated by the philanthropic sector's response to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which mandates that healthcare institutions elevate the health of our communities and provide better outcomes for the healthcare consumer. The monumental changes looming for the healthcare industry will forever change healthcare delivery models across the nation and subsequently the very DNA of healthcare philanthropy. This literature review will provide insights into the fear incited by ACA, the perceived risk to nonprofit status, and how the nonprofit sector is taking advantage of the changes brought about by legislative mandates through ACA and Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) requirements. At this point in history, healthcare systems and fundraising entities are being challenged with elevating the professionalism and skill sets of nonprofit practitioners and the effectiveness to which fundraisers can better align and match donors' expectations and philanthropic behaviors. Governmental agencies and the priorities of nonprofit organizations and foundations are changing rapidly, along with the healthcare landscape, ultimately impacting the future of population health and the wellness of our entire nation.
