Book excerpt: In the Christian Church and the world at large today, addiction to pornography is not just a crisis, it is the crisis. The approach for many has been to label this a war, and scores of books and teachers have tried to show that using various control methods and tools in order to deal with the problem leads to freedom. But the crisis continues to grow, and true freedom, the kind that Jesus seems to be pointing to in the Gospels, seems forever out of reach. This powerless approach has left millions with out true freedom and asking some very hard questions about themselves, their sexuality, and the nature of God. In this groundbreaking new book on an age-old topic, author Seth Taylor leads us into the question: "Is there any real power? And if there is, why don't we see it more?" With this question as the starting point, Taylor shows readers how to peel back the layers of all the things people are medicating with pornography and other "drugs". He gives readers the tools to make their Spirits come alive. Through a compelling combination of stories and spiritually grounded teaching from his own pilgrimage, Taylor shows readers that freedom is not a myth, but rather the essence of every human being, created in the image of God.Feels Like Redemption powerfully teaches that this journey into sexual and spiritual health is not a battle. It's a Pilgrimage - a Sacred Journey. And in walking this journey, we can be changed forever.

Book Judas Iscariot Damned or Redeemed

Download or read book Judas Iscariot Damned or Redeemed written by Carol A. Hebron and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the 20th century, Judas was characterised in film as the epitome of evil: the villainous Jew. Film-makers cast Judas in this way because this was the Judas that audiences had come to recognize and even expect. But in the following three decades, film-makers - as a result of critical biblical study - were more circumspect about accepting the alleged historicity of the Gospel accounts. Carol A. Hebron examines the figure of Judas across film history to show how the portrayal becomes more nuanced and more significant, even to the point where Judas becomes the protagonist with a role in the film equal in importance to that of Jesus'. Hebron examines how, in these films, we begin to see a rehabilitation of the Judas character and a restoration of Judaism. Hebron reveals two distinct theologies: 'rejection' and 'acceptance'. The Nazi Holocaust and the exposure of the horrors of genocide at the end of World War II influenced how Judaism, Jews, and Judas, were to be portrayed in film. Rehabilitating the Judas character and the Jews was necessary, and film was deemed an appropriate medium in which to begin that process.

  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book The Bisbee Massacre written by David Grassé and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 1883, five outlaws attempted to rob the A.A. Castaneda Mercantile establishment in the fledgling mining town of Bisbee in the Arizona Territory. The robbery was a disaster: four citizens shot dead, one a pregnant woman. The failed heist was national news, with the subsequent manhunt, trial and execution of the alleged perpetrators followed by newspapers from New York to San Francisco. The Bisbee Massacre was as momentous as the infamous blood feud between the Earp brothers and the cowboys two years earlier, and led to the only recorded lynching in the town of Tombstone--John Heath, a sporting man, who was thought to be the mastermind. New research indicates he may have been innocent. This comprehensive history takes a fresh look at the event that marked the end of the Wild West period in the Arizona Territory.
