Book Prison Journal 1940 1945

Download or read book Prison Journal 1940 1945 written by Edouard Daladier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-23 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even after fifty years, and in spite of the reams of documents now available,it remains difficult-especially in France-to form an objective view of what things were like in the period between the wars and in 1940.The greater, the swifter, the more unexpected the disaster, the less people are willing to deal with it squarely. Once a certain threshold of suffering, shame, and humiliation is reached, actual facts become unimportant, analyses become bothersome. History falls prey to myth and rumor.People refuse to hear any more, but they still need someone to blame. In France, the strangest of bedfellows have come to speak about it in one voice, and the good people have remained mute.

This selflessness is the true meaning of goodness.

Book Exploring Nanosyntax

Download or read book Exploring Nanosyntax written by Lena Baunaz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Nanosyntax is the first in-depth introduction to the framework of nanosyntax. Deploying the cartographic "one feature - one head" maxim, the framework decomposes morphosyntactic structure, laying bare the building blocks of the universal functional sequence. This volume presents the framework's constitutive tools and principles, and explains how nanosyntax relates to cartography and to Distributed Morphology. It also illustrates how nanosyntactic tools and principles can e applied to a range of empirical domains of natural language. Comprising twelve original contributions by leaders of the field, the volume provides a range of cross-linguistic investigations that contribute to a better understanding of the functional sequence. Book Defaults in Morphological Theory

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume sets out four different default-based frameworks for describing morphology. Major proponents of these frameworks address a range of questions about the role of defaults in the lexicon, such as the place of morphology in the grammar and the challenge of meaning-form dissociations that plagues morphology.

Book One to many relations in morphology syntax and semantics

Download or read book One to many relations in morphology syntax and semantics written by Berthold Crysmann and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The standard view of the form-meaning interfaces, as embraced by the great majority of contemporary grammatical frameworks, consists in the assumption that meaning can be associated with grammatical form in a one-to-one correspondence. Under this view, composition is quite straightforward, involving concatenation of form, paired with functional application in meaning. In this book, we discuss linguistic phenomena across several grammatical sub-modules (morphology, syntax, semantics) that apparently pose a problem to the standard view, mapping out the potential for deviation from the ideal of one-to-one correspondences, and develop formal accounts of the range of phenomena. We argue that a constraint-based perspective is particularly apt to accommodate deviations from one-to-many correspondences, as it allows us to impose constraints on full structures (such as a complete word or the interpretation of a full sentence) instead of deriving such structures step by step. Most of the papers in this volume are formulated in a particular constraint-based grammar framework, Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar. The contributions investigate how the lexical and constructional aspects of this theory can be combined to provide an answer to this question across different linguistic sub-theories.
