Download or read book Recreating Partnership written by Phillip Ziegler and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2001-07-31 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All couples go through challenging times: some survive and thrive, others don't. How can we understand and use this distinction in the practical application of therapy? In their solution-oriented, competency-based approach to couples therapy, Phillip Ziegler and Tobey Hiller answer this question. In Recreating Partnership, an innovative, theoretically sound, and practical handbook for clinicians, Ziegler and Hiller present a bold and clinically useful concept, the good story/bad story dichotomy. The book shows clinicians how to use this narrative concept in conducting effective and efficient relationship therapy that will help couples build solutions collaboratively, invigorate partnership, and thrive, each in their own unique ways. The book covers issues such as establishing rapport with antagonistic partners; developing therapeutic goals; hosting conversations that reinvigorate the couple's good story; how, when, and whether to offer task assignments; addressing issues such as domestic violence; and how to bring therapy to a close, as well as many cogent and helpful transcripts. Written for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and anyone who works with couples, Recreating Partnership will be exciting and useful to both the novice and experienced practitioner.

Download or read book The State of Affairs written by Esther Perel and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A fresh look at infidelity, broadening the focus from the havoc it wreaks within a committed relationship to consider also why people do it, what it means to them, and why breaking up is the expected response to duplicity — but not necessarily the wisest one.” — LA Review of Books From iconic couples’ therapist and bestselling author of Mating in Captivity comes a provocative and controversial look at infidelity with practical, honest, and empathetic advice for how to move beyond it. An affair: it can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet, this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. What are we to make of this time-honored taboo—universally forbidden yet universally practiced? Why do people cheat—even those in happy marriages? Why does an affair hurt so much? When we say infidelity, what exactly do we mean? Do our romantic expectations of marriage set us up for betrayal? Is there such a thing as an affair-proof marriage? Is it possible to love more than one person at once? Can an affair ever help a marriage? Perel weaves real-life case stories with incisive psychological and cultural analysis in this fast-paced and compelling book. For the past ten years, Perel has traveled the globe and worked with hundreds of couples who have grappled with infidelity. Betrayal hurts, she writes, but it can be healed. An affair can even be the doorway to a new marriage—with the same person. With the right approach, couples can grow and learn from these tumultuous experiences, together or apart. Affairs, she argues, have a lot to teach us about modern relationships—what we expect, what we think we want, and what we feel entitled to. They offer a unique window into our personal and cultural attitudes about love, lust, and commitment. Through examining illicit love from multiple angles, Perel invites readers into an honest, enlightened, and entertaining exploration of modern marriage in its many variations. Fiercely intelligent, The State of Affairs provides a daring framework for understanding the intricacies of love and desire. As Perel observes, “Love is messy; infidelity more so. But it is also a window, like no other, into the crevices of the human heart.”
Download or read book Responsibility Chastisement and Restoration written by Ronald Laldinsuah and published by Langham Monographs. This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Old Testament scholars have focused their studies of justice on the eighth-century BC prophets Isaiah, Amos and Micah, giving little or no attention to Hosea. Neglect of Hosea in relation to justice arises from the common notion that he was a prophet of love, and although some studies concede that parts of the book deal with justice, it is often overlooked or given secondary importance to other concerns and themes. In this publication Ronald Laldinsuah addresses this misconception by demonstrating that Hosea was indeed a prophet of justice. Through careful analysis of the text as well as observing both the biblical concept and the secular notions of justice it is observed that justice must perpetuate right and true relationships. In ‘relational justice’ we see the inseparable relationship among humans, and between humans and God – emphasising Hosea’s message of responsibility, chastisement and restoration.

Download or read book The Image of God Lost and Recreated written by Otis Gouty and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-27 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book that demonstrates how a person can get the image of God. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God but lost it. They were given freedom of choice. Unfortunately, they rejected God and chose the way of Satan, which has been passed on to all of us down through the centuries from parent to child. The Bible is accepted as truth. Every step of the way taken here is documented by the Bible. Scientific discoveries are introduced to form a basis for understanding and to compliment biblical references. Children born after Seth were born in the evil image of Adam and Eve. God was so deeply grieved by the evil intentions of Seth's descendants that he sent the flood to destroy all of mankind. Noah was favored by God, but even so, he was still of the lineage of Seth. The Old Testament is filled with the sinful acts of God's chosen children, but the faithful unchanging God had a plan which He brought to pass in the person of Jesus. This book provides a penetrating and dramatic picture of how God has implemented His plan to the present time.
Download or read book Overcoming Toxic Emotions written by Raymond Olusesan Aina and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-06 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overcoming Toxic Emotions is a compelling theme to enrich the restorative justice literature on the complex tasks of relational repair in a transitional society. With its emphasis on the centrality of “rebuilding trust” and renewing the mode of being together, this book is an innovative addition to the literature on justice in transitional societies. It offers an original assessment of the Nigerian experience of restorative justice in peacebuilding. This genuinely theological work opens new perspectives for a more adequate understanding of the Christian contribution to peacebuilding and the secular debate on restorative justice. Yet, the author expresses himself as an African theologian, paying attention to the specific context of the problems about transitional justice and integrating spontaneously the wisdom of his dual cultures—Yoruba and Christianity. With its attentiveness to victim perspectives, the book engages the traditional notion of divine omnipotence and vulnerability. The book rejects the notion of the fetish omnipotent God. It opts instead for an image of God as vulnerable, yet powerful in love, compelling, inspiring, and rallying us.
Download or read book How to Fall in Love with Anyone written by Mandy Len Catron and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A beautifully written and well-researched cultural criticism as well as an honest memoir” (Los Angeles Review of Books) from the author of the popular New York Times essay, “To Fall in Love with Anyone, Do This,” explores the romantic myths we create and explains how they limit our ability to achieve and sustain intimacy. What really makes love last? Does love ever work the way we say it does in movies and books and Facebook posts? Or does obsessing over those love stories hurt our real-life relationships? When her parents divorced after a twenty-eight year marriage and her own ten-year relationship ended, those were the questions that Mandy Len Catron wanted to answer. In a series of candid, vulnerable, and wise essays that takes a closer look at what it means to love someone, be loved, and how we present our love to the world, “Catron melds science and emotion beautifully into a thoughtful and thought-provoking meditation” (Bookpage). She delves back to 1944, when her grandparents met in a coal mining town in Appalachia, to her own dating life as a professor in Vancouver. She uses biologists’ research into dopamine triggers to ask whether the need to love is an innate human drive. She uses literary theory to show why we prefer certain kinds of love stories. She urges us to question the unwritten scripts we follow in relationships and looks into where those scripts come from. And she tells the story of how she decided to test an experiment that she’d read about—where the goal was to create intimacy between strangers using a list of thirty-six questions—and ended up in the surreal situation of having millions of people following her brand-new relationship. “Perfect fodder for the romantic and the cynic in all of us” (Booklist), How to Fall in Love with Anyone flips the script on love. “Clear-eyed and full of heart, it is mandatory reading for anyone coping with—or curious about—the challenges of contemporary courtship” (The Toronto Star).
