Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our stewardship of this country's natural assets over the past two hundred years has been appalling, and on the current trajectory of careless environmental pillaging, further massive decline would be a certainty . The future of the environment is being decided on our watch . Australia faces unique conservation challenges that most Australians do not know enough about. On Our Watch is an attempt to remedy this situation. Respected conservationist Nicola Markus believes that it is time people realised that our environmental issues are not being solved by those tasked with their solution, and that the support and involvement of the public is essential if we are to make a difference in environmental conservation. In this thoroughly researched and passionately written book, Markus explains the very real and immediate threats to Australia's natural environment and cuts through the spin to show how you can become involved in conserving our environmental heritage.

Book Status of Conservation and Decline of Amphibians

Download or read book Status of Conservation and Decline of Amphibians written by Harold Heatwole and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2018-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amphibians are among the most threatened groups of animals on earth. In part due to their highly permeable skin, amphibians are highly sensitive to environmental changes and pollution and provide an early-warning system of deteriorating environmental conditions. The more we learn about the impact of environmental changes on amphibians, the better we as humans will be able to arrest their demise, and our own. Status of Conservation and Decline of Amphibians brings together the current knowledge on the status of the unique frogs of Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. Although geographically proximate, each region presents unique challenges and opportunities in amphibian research and conservation. This book contributes to an understanding of the current conservation status of the amphibians of each region, aims to stimulate research into halting amphibian declines, and provides a better foundation for making conservation decisions. It is an invaluable reference for environmental and governmental agencies, researchers, policy-makers involved with biodiversity conservation, and the interested public.

Book Recovery Plan for Stream Frogs of South east Queensland

Download or read book Recovery Plan for Stream Frogs of South east Queensland written by Harry Hines and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is a five-year multi-species plan for the recovery of seven threatened stream frogs of south-east Queensland. The southern dayfrog and southern gastric-brooding frog declined and disappeared in the late 1970s to early 1980s. They have not been located since then, despite considerable survey effort. All other species are reported to have undergone population declines, although these are sometimes poorly quantified. One of these species, the cascade treefrog, declined markedly in Queensland in the late 1970s-early 1980s. However, numbers have since shown some recovery.

Book Repairing the Rainforest

Download or read book Repairing the Rainforest written by Stephen P. Goosem and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wet Tropics Management Authority and Biotropica Pty Ltd are delighted to present Repairing the Rainforest 2nd Edition, co-authored by Dr Steve Goosem and Nigel Tucker. The updated edition of the book maintains the essence of the hugely popular first edition published in 1995 by providing a practical guide to rainforest re-establishment whilst also delving into the principles behind the practice. Focusing primarily on the Wet Tropics region of Australia, Repairing the Rainforest highlights key ecological principles for restoring rainforest biodiversity and function. These include, among others, the vital role of animal seed-dispersers in rainforests and the traits of plants that help or hinder their dispersal. The book is a must for individuals and organisations involved in land care and rehabilitation of tropical forests. It is an informative hand book that provides valuable insight into the intriguing forests of the Wet Tropics and their successful restoration.
