Book Records of the Rough Riders Xxth Battalion Imperial Yeomanry

Download or read book Records of the Rough Riders Xxth Battalion Imperial Yeomanry written by H. G. McKenzie and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Records of the Rough Riders (Xxth Battalion Imperial Yeomanry): Boer War, 1899-1902 This volume, which constitutes the Record of a Regiment, is merely a plain statement of facts: a story unpretentious and unembellished. For the compilation of this Record I am indebted to several oficers, non-commissioned oflicers, and men, who kindly helped with diaries and notes, while for further information I have gleaned from the hooks already written Even with all the material which I have had the opportunity of perusing and collating, it is possible that much good work has been left unchronicled, and that many notable individual deeds were accomplished, of which it has been impossible to give particulars, owing to the Regiment having been distributed over such a wide war area - due to the exigencies of active service - extending over a period of some. Book The Yeomanry Cavalry and Military Identities in Rural Britain 1815 1914

Download or read book The Yeomanry Cavalry and Military Identities in Rural Britain 1815 1914 written by George Hay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the first dedicated study of the British Yeomanry Cavalry, delving into the institution’s history from the cessation of hostilities with France in 1815 through to the eve of the First World War in 1914. This social history explores the Yeomanry’s composition and place within British society, as well as its controversial role in policing before and after Peterloo, and its unique contribution to the war in South Africa. Overturning or challenging many enduring myths and accepted truths, this book breaks new ground not just in our understanding of the Yeomanry, but the wider amateur military tradition.

Book The Story of the Rough Riders

Download or read book The Story of the Rough Riders written by Edward Marshall and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Rough Riders: 1st U. S. Volunteer Cavalry; The Regiment in Camp and on the Battle Field Notwithstanding the fact that my connection with the regiment, as commanding officer, ceased on June 30th, the day before the San Juan charge, my interest in it has never lessened for a moment. I was naturally proud of my connection with it at the beginning. I am proud now of the fact that I went into the war as its colonel, and I am proud of its record. When I began to do what I could at San Antonio, to organize the regiment into a creditable military body, I said to the men of it: "Make yourselves as much like regular soldiers as you can in the shortest possible time. If you think only of that you will be thinking exactly of the right thing and you will have enough to think about to keep you very busy. If you devote your time and attention to that, the regiment will be a success. The men did make themselves so much like regulars that it was hard to tell the difference, and the regiment was a success." It would be utterly useless for me to recapitulate now the history of the good work the Rough Riders did. They were not the only good soldiers in the army, but they were among the best, and they did not do any bad work. Book Scottish Soldier and Empire 1854 1902

Download or read book Scottish Soldier and Empire 1854 1902 written by Edward M. Spiers and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2006-07-20 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Scottish Soldier and Empire, 1854-1902 reflects upon the iconic role of the Scottish soldier as an empire builder from the Crimean War to the end of the nineteenth century. It examines how the soldier commented on this imperial experience, largely through letter, diaries and poems published in the provincial press, how his exploits were reviewed in Scotland and how military achievements contributed to both a growing sense of national identity and a deepening degree of imperial commitment.
