Book Recombination of Positive Ions and Electrons in a Dense Neutral Gas

Download or read book Recombination of Positive Ions and Electrons in a Dense Neutral Gas written by D. R. Bates and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory is presented of the recombination of electrons and positive ions in the presence of neutral atoms which act as third bodies, explicit account being taken of the effect of radiative transitions. Comparison is made with the theories of Thomson and of Pitaevskii. Detailed calculations are carried out on recombination in helium gas. It is found that the rate coefficient is very great when the temperature is low and the number density N(He) is high. (Author).

Book Radiation Chemistry

    Book Details:
  • Author : C.D. Jonah
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2001-08-23
  • ISBN : 008054021X
  • Pages : 777 pages

Download or read book Radiation Chemistry written by C.D. Jonah and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-23 with total page 777 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the twentieth century, radiation chemistry emerged as a multi-faceted field encompassing all areas of science. Radiation chemical techniques are becoming increasingly popular and are being routinely used not only by chemists but also by biologists, polymer scientists, etc. "Radiation Chemistry: Present Status and Future Trends" presents an overall view of the different aspects of the subject. The chapters review the current status of the field and present the future opportunities in utilizing radiation chemical techniques. This will be of interest to chemists in general and in particular to radiation chemists, chemical kineticists, photochemists, physical-organic chemists and spectroscopists. In view of the diverse nature of the field, the book is a multi-authored effort by several experts in their particular areas of research. Six main areas, both basic and applied, were identified and the book is organized around them. The topics were selected in terms of their relative importance and the contribution of radiation chemistry to the general areas of chemistry, biology and physics. The topics covered are as diverse as gas phase radiation chemistry, the use of radiation chemical techniques, the treatment of water pollutants, the chemical basis of radiation biology, and muonium chemistry. The book also contains an update of the next generation electron accelerators.

Book Gaseous Electronics and Gas Lasers

Download or read book Gaseous Electronics and Gas Lasers written by Blake E. Cherrington and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gaseous Electronics and Gas Lasers deals with the fundamental principles and methods of analysis of weakly ionized gas discharges and gas lasers. The emphasis is on processes occurring in gas discharges and the analytical methods used to calculate important process rates. Detailed analyses of a variety of gas discharges are presented using atomic, ionic, and gas lasers as primary illustrations. Comprised of 12 chapters, this book begins with some initial categorization of gas discharge species and an overview of their interactions. The discussion then turns to an elementary theory of a gas discharge; inelastic collisions; distribution functions and the Boltzmann equation; and transport coefficients. Subsequent chapters focus on the fluid equations; electron-density decay processes; excited species; atomic neutral gas lasers; molecular gas lasers; and ion lasers. The important electron loss processes that determine the behavior of a plasma when the source and loss terms balance are also examined. This monograph will be of value to graduate students, practitioners, and researchers in the fields of physics and engineering, as well as to professionals interested in working with weakly ionized discharges.
