Book Recombinant DNA Technologies in Neuroendocrinology

Download or read book Recombinant DNA Technologies in Neuroendocrinology written by Hiroo Imura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers new aspects and future directions in molecular neuroendocrinology, an important and rapidly growing area in neuroendocrinology. Among the various neurotransmitters or neuromodulators that play an important role in the control of endocrine functions, neuropeptides and related proteins have drawn special attention because of their diversity and complexity in action. More recently, molecular biology has become an essential tool of research in this area. Various genes encoding neuropeptides and other related pro- teins have been cloned, and the regulation of expression of these genes has been studied extensively. Transgenic animals have been used in studying the function of the gene in que- stion. In-situ hybridization is being applied to localize the site of production and analyze the regulation of pro- duction of peptides or proteins.

Book Basic Introduction to Astrobiotechnology

Download or read book Basic Introduction to Astrobiotechnology written by Dr. Arun Kumar Singh and published by AL - LINA PUBLICATION. This book was released on with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book entitled “Basic Introduction to Astrobiotechnology” is according the requirement and need for the information and knowledge from different area of Astronomy and Biotechnology. Theoretical and observational physics provides a basis for analyzing and understanding bodies that are too far from us. It is difficult to visit physically or even measure directly. But this information’s of the universe may lead us to a better understanding of the origins of our universe, refining theories like the big bang or understanding dark energy. Astrobiotechnology is an emerging field at the intersection of biology, chemistry, physics, and space exploration. It seeks to understand the fundamental principles of life and apply this knowledge to investigate the possibilities of life elsewhere in the universe. By harnessing the power of biotechnology, we can explore and manipulate the building blocks of life, paving the way for breakthroughs in space exploration, colonization, and the search for extraterrestrial life. This book aims to provide a comprehensive overview of astrobiotechnology, covering a wide range of topics that will intrigue both scientists and enthusiasts alike. We will delve into the origins of life on Earth and the conditions necessary for life to thrive in extreme environments. We will explore the tools and techniques used in astrobiological research, such as genetic engineering, synthetic biology, and biomaterials. Additionally, we will study the potential for terraforming other planets and moons, and the ethical implications that arise from these endeavors. It is important to note that Astrobiotechnology is not just a theoretical concept; it has real-world applications and implications for our future as a species. By studying the adaptations of life in extreme environments, we gain valuable insights into the potential for sustainable life on Earth and the possibilities of adapting life to survive in the hostile environments of space. Furthermore, the exp

Book excerpt: Neuroendocrinology is a discipline which originated about 50 years ago as a branch of Endocrinology and that is now strictly linked to neuroscience. Volumes 181 and 182 of Progress in Brain Research provide a rapid view of the major points presently discussed at biological and clinical levels. The chapters have been written by top scientists who are directly involved in basic or clinical research and who use the most sophisticated biotechnological techniques. The volumes cover of the role of genetics in many endocrine-related events, like neuroendocrinological diseases and endocrine depenedent cancers (prostate, breast, etc,). Interesting information is also provided on possibile treatments of neurodegenerative brain diseases (e.g., Alzheimer and similar syndromes). • The best researchers in the field provide their conclusions in the context of the latest experimental results • Chapters are extensively referenced to provide readers with a comprehensive list of resources on the topics covered • Of great value for researchers and experts, but also for students as a background reference

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should feminists clone? What do neurons think about? How can we learn from bacterial writing? These provocative questions have haunted neuroscientist and molecular biologist Deboleena Roy since her early days of research when she was conducting experiments on an in vitro cell line using molecular biology techniques. An expert natural scientist as well as an intrepid feminist theorist, Roy takes seriously the expressive capabilities of biological objectssuch as bacteria and other human, nonhuman, organic, and inorganic actantsin order to better understand processes of becoming. She also suggests that renewed interest in matter and materiality in feminist theory must be accompanied by new feminist approaches that work with the everyday, nitty-gritty research methods and techniques in the natural sciences. By practicing science as feminism at the lab bench, Roy creates an interdisciplinary conversation between molecular biology, Deleuzian philosophies, science and technology studies, feminist theory, posthumanism, and postcolonial and decolonial studies. In Molecular Feminisms she brings insights from feminist and cultural theory together with lessons learned from the capabilities and techniques of bacteria, subcloning, and synthetic biology to o er tools for how we might approach nature anew. In the process she demonstrates that learning how to see the world around us is also always about learning how to encounter that world.
