  • Author : Elizabeth Warrington
  • Publisher : Psychology Press
  • Release : 2013-07-26
  • ISBN : 9781848723191
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book The Camden Memory Tests written by Elizabeth Warrington and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-07-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Camden Memory Tests consist of 5 measures, a user maual and a set of score sheets. Each test was developed to fulfil a clinical need that was not met by existing memory tests and they are intended to be used separately. The Pictorial Recognition Memory Test is an exceptionally easy test that can provide useful clinical information in the assessment of patients unable to cope with the demands of more difficult tests. It can also be used to identify subjects who are 'faking' memory disorders. The Topographical Recognition Memory Test provides a culture-free measure of visual memory that is a useful alternative to the more commonly used Recognition Memory Test for faces. The Paired-Associate Learning Test provides a more satisfactory measure of verbal recall and verbal learning than is at present available. The Short Recognition Memory Test for Words and The Short Recognition Memory Test for Faces were both developed to provide a short and quick version of the standard Recognition Memory Test with only the minimum loss of discriminative power. Each of the 5 individual tests has been standardised in a large representative cross section of an urban population including subjects between the ages of 70 and 85. Validation studies are presented. The localising power of the Topographical Recognition Memory Test and the Paired-Associate Learning Test has been established by assessing patients with unilateral cerebral lesions and the discriminative power of the Short Recognition Memory Test for Words and for Faces has been established by assessing patients with dementing illnesses.

Download or read book Experimental Studies in Recall and Recognition Classic Reprint written by Edith Mulhall Achilles and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-28 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experimental Studies in Recall and Recognition Eggpggamll He presented the material in two forms, first he exposed ten monosyllabic words simultaneously for a period of ten seconds to each of his two subjects. In the second case they were presented verbally. Afterwards the observers were asked to write down all that they could recall within a minute. Then from a set of twenty containing the original ten, they were requested to identify as many as possible. The difference in the. Per cent. Recalled and recognized is about twenty. The results were as follows. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Evaluation of the Processes Involved in Recognition Memory Using State trace Analysis of Event related

Download or read book Evaluation of the Processes Involved in Recognition Memory Using State trace Analysis of Event related written by Joshua Farwell Cohen and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Episodic recognition memory experiments attempt to determine the processes that underlie recognition (Mandler, 1980). Currently, there is a debate whether episodic recognition memory involves separate components of familiarity and recollection (i.e., the Dual Process Model) or a single process which involves varying degrees of confidence based on familiarity (i.e., the Single Process Model). Recollection and familiarity differ in the type of information they provide and also the extent to which each influences confidence (Yonelinas, Dobbins, Szymanski, Dhaliwal, & King, 1996). Familiarity is specifically assumed to reflect the assessment of quantitative memory strength information. Recollection is believed to reflect a threshold retrieval process whereby qualitative information about a previous event is retrieved (Yonelinas, 2002). In this paper, the validity of the single and dual process models will be assessed by testing the assumptions of the models using electrophysiological data (ERPs) from a recognition experiment. Previous recognition tests have relied on the use of dissociation logic as evidence of separate processes. The dissociations which showed the strongest support for a dual process are based on the flawed logic that physical variables and psychological variables are linearly related, and differences between these variables can be attributed to different underlying processes. In order to evaluate the number of processes involved in recognition, this paper proposes the use of a non-parametric statistical approach that looks to determine the number of underlying processes that are needed to account for a given set of data without making prior assumptions of a single or dual process model. It is a general method based on the premise that two dependent variables will covary with each other to the extent that they are affected by the same independent variable (Bamber, 1979). The results of the state-trace analysis of the electrophysiological data provide support for a single process model of recognition.

Book Human Learning and Memory

Download or read book Human Learning and Memory written by Laura Imperatori and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-06-24 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2012 in the subject Psychology - Intelligence and Learning Psychology, grade: A, University of Cambridge (Department of Experimental Psychology), course: Natural Sciences Tripos, language: English, abstract: The Generation-Recognition Theory and the Encoding Specificity Theory that both deliver a process description of human memory were both tested by the Cued Recall & Recognition test - a simplified form of experiments performed by Watkins and Tulving. The Cued Recall & Recognition test was performed on 42 subjects overall and the proportion of words that were recalled, but not recognised, was determined to be 0.27+/-0.19. Two different groups were allocated (unknown to the participants) on the basis of the stimulus sets used (stimulus set 1 or 2) to test the influence of the stimulus sets on obtaining the above results. We verified that our results were not likely to be due simply to the specific stimuli that were used but showing a more general effect given that we found t(40)_{0.05}=1.168 in a two tailed t-test, and, thus, retained H_{0}: ``There is no significant difference in the proportion of words recalled, but not recognised, between the two groups (due to the different stimulus sets used).'' The significant proportion of words being recalled but not recognised contradicts generation-recognition theory, but supports encoding specificity theory, which argues that retrieval is based on a congruence between how information was encoded (or studied) and how it is accessed at retrieval, hence memory is highly context-dependent and episodic in nature.

Book Models of Human Memory

  • Author : Donald A. Norman
  • Publisher : Elsevier

  • ISBN : 1483258203
  • Pages : 556 pages

Download or read book Models of Human Memory written by Donald A. Norman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models of Human Memory provides an overview of the state of knowledge on human memory models. The book begins with an introductory chapter on the basic stages of the memory system and the historical roots of memory models. The remaining chapters are organized into five parts. Part I on memory systems covers topics such as a system for perception and memory; multi-trace strength theory of memory; and a model for postperceptual verbal memory that postulates a single memory store, with multiple copies, called replicas, created in memory by rehearsal processes. Part II presents studies phoneme storage and word recognition. Part III on memory for associations examines the storage-retrieval theory for the memorizing processes and presents simple model of short-term memory (STM) for paired associates. Part IV on storage and retrieval mechanisms deals with mechanisms of repetition and rehearsal in short-term memory; models of recall and recognition; and memory search models. Part V presents a theory of human long-term associative memory; and examines conceptual and methodological interactions between information-processing investigations of cognitive activity and attempts to build models of memory.
