Download or read book Paralysis in the Pew written by Dr. Jeffrey T. Rainey and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author admits that the church has the highest unemployment rates. The church has been gifted by the Lord with many vital ministries that are available for the growth of the body of Christ. Sadly, the greater percentage of members are neither enrolled nor engaged in the work of the ministry. As a result, very few members keep the local church functioning, while the majority of the members (because of what the author calls, functional paralysis) have neither feeling nor desire to function. Too many congregants are a part of the membership but apart from the ministry. Too many are unaware or uncaring concerning the needs of the body and of the bodys genuine need for them in order to effectively function. What the author describes as paralysis in the pew is a grave yet growing spiritual condition within the local churches. As a physical impediment, paralysis has been drastically improved, even cured, with the aid of physical therapy, prescribed treatments, and personal trust and initiative. It is the authors contention that parallel treatmentswhen viewed spiritually and applied in the spiritual and physical realmcan drastically improve, even cure, paralysis in the pew.

Download or read book High Expectations written by Thom S. Rainer and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 1999-02-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a quarter of a century the problem of losing church members has progressively increased. Today the situation is so bad that less than one-third of the members in some churches attend worship services. Church leaders are crying for help.In an effort to help church leaders, the Billy Graham School of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary conducted a massive research project involving nearly 287 churches. The most revealing aspect of the study was that the higher expectations placed on members, the greater the likelihood that the members would stay and be involved with the church. Using the data gathered from this project, Thom Rainer presents the first-ever comprehensive study about 'closing the back door.' Rainer looks at why people are leaving the church and how church leaders can keep the members.

Book Reclaiming the Church Family

Download or read book Reclaiming the Church Family written by Matthew T. Kimbrough and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why bother with church? Can’t I follow Jesus on my own? Christians young and old struggle to answer these questions, believing Scripture says little about church life. But the Bible is far from silent. The New Testament envisions a vibrant church of devoted brothers and sisters adopted into God’s family. The biblical image of the church family has the power to reshape everything our local churches do—the ways pastors lead, how members engage one another, what worship leaders sing, and much more. Now is the time to reclaim a biblical vision of the church as a family and reject the prevailing corporate-church paradigm assumed by church growth gurus. The church that thinks of itself as a family will learn to build meaningful relationships and show the unbelieving world how good church life can be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta was founded in 1886. The name Ebenezer means "rock or stone of help." From a small group of believers, many of whom were former slaves, in a boxlike structure on Airline Alley, Ebenezer has grown to an internationally known church with over 4,000 members. The Gothic architecture of the Heritage Sanctuary on Auburn Avenue, coupled with the influence of the African meetinghouse seen in the architecture of the Horizon Sanctuary across the street, reflects the diversity of outreach of Ebenezer's ministry. Ebenezer has been a beacon of racial pride and social consciousness. The love and cooperation between the members and the pastor have created a family atmosphere that has sustained the growth and expansion of the church.

Book Reclaiming Glory

  • Author : Mark Clifton
  • Publisher : B&H Publishing Group
  • Release : 2016-06-01
  • ISBN : 1433643235
  • Pages : 176 pages

Download or read book Reclaiming Glory written by Mark Clifton and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is there about a dying church that brings glory to God? Mark Clifton's convicting answer is "Nothing." Because a local church is intended to represent the work of God in a community, when that church "loses it saltiness," not only is God's work pictured as irrelevant in that community, but also dishonor and disrepute may well become associated with God's name as a result. In Reclaiming Glory, Clifton draws not only upon his own burden for revitalizing dying churches but also upon years of church replanting experience to offer passionate counsel for how to breathe new life into a dying church . . . all for the glory of the God who is building his church upon the immovable rock of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Book Re CLAIM ing

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael D. Stover
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-08-04
  • ISBN : 9781951340032
  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Re CLAIM ing written by Michael D. Stover and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of us failed and one of us was blindsided. One of us is in vocational ministry today and one is not. Both of us know what it is like to need the restorative ministry of the local church, and how hard it is to find. 'The Christian Army is the only army in existence that shoots its own wounded' is a popular cliché because it is true. We have both experienced that trauma, but we are not victims." - the authors. There are multitudes of broken ministers and laypeople scattered across the globe that are "shipwrecked" from the faith. Broken people who have made bad choices or were broken by the bad choices of local churches. Why is this so? The Scriptures clearly teach, "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted." (Galatians 6:1 ESV). Jesus Himself gave the parable of the shepherd who left 99 sheep in the fold to search for one that had been lost (Matthew 18:12). This book seeks to provide biblical and practical help for those who wish for their churches to "be catchers" instead of "pitchers." The authors share their personal implosions and personal stories from others who needed "reclaiming" because of a personal failure or a church failure. The authors provide a framework for how churches can develop a truly biblical culture of restoration that leads them to restore broken believers to a healthy relationship with God and His local church. In fact, the practical principles shared in this book were hammered out in the experience of a local church led by one of the authors, Pete Tackett. Antioch Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee, has been transformed into a "reclaiming" church that has been used of God to restore several broken ministers and church members to spiritual health and usefulness. Pastor Pete met his co-author, Michael Stover, when reaching out to provide tangible assistance shortly after Michael and his family were ousted and moved back to Northeast Tennessee. This book is for every pastor, every deacon, every church member, and every denominational leader who desires to reverse the tide of discarding broken believers from our churches. So little of this is actually accomplished that we had to coin a new word for those being reclaimed - "restoree." Whom do you know that needs restoration? A young pastor chewed up and spit out by the traditional church "machine?" A deacon who cheated on his wife? A pastor who revealed years of personal sin, or whose sin finally exploded publicly? A church member who made a bad choice out of desperation and now is embarrassed to return to church? This book is actually for them - to revive and equip local churches and members to pursue them and restore them to spiritual health and vitality for the Kingdom's sake. Are you ready to pursue that journey? Pete Tackett is an experienced full-time pastor who currently leads an exceptional church that seeks to restore the broken. Michael Stover is a former minister of 20+ years who is now a full-time freelance writer and author. They both reside in Johnson City, Tennessee.
