Book Open Innovation in R D Departments

Download or read book Open Innovation in R D Departments written by Verena Nedon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-22 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on interviews with R&D managers and a survey amongst R&D employees, Verena Nedon shows that perceived social pressure has an immense impact on R&D employees working in OI-projects. Employees’ attitude (regardless of whether positive or negative) and perceived behavioral control play an important, but not dominant role. The study also implies that intrinsic motivators have a stronger effect on employees’ willingness to engage in knowledge exchange with external partners than extrinsic components. By targeting a set of relevant questions related to the human side of open innovation, the study significantly contributes to the micro-foundation of OI-research and sheds light on the hitherto neglected perspective of employees engaged in OI-projects. The findings are relevant for scholars, companies already following the OI-approach and OI-newcomers.

Book R D Management in the Knowledge Era

Download or read book R D Management in the Knowledge Era written by Tuğrul Daim and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-08-14 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores emerging models, methods and tools in the management of research and development (R&D) in the knowledge era, with a particular focus on the challenges of the emerging technologies. The contributions are organized in five parts. Part I, Managing Emerging Technologies, provides methods and tools to understand the challenges created by the emergence of new technologies. Part II, Technology and Engineering Management Tools and Policies, explores different technology and engineering tools, including topics such as product concept development, design, selection and adoption, using technology roadmaps and bibliometrics. Part III, Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship, explores R&D, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurial education. Part IV, Commercialization of Technological Innovations, explores the development and application of the technology transfer process which allows managers to succeed in commercializing the outcomes of R&D projects. Part V, Managing the Engineering Enterprise, explores the effect economic decision-making, leadership styles, change management and quality management have on an organization’s ability to plan and execute initiatives and projects. Research and Development has always played a critical role in the engineering and technology focused industries. In an era of big data and smart applications, knowledge has become a key enabler for R&D. Managing R&D in the knowledge era requires use of key tools and methods. However, emerging technologies pose many challenges and cause uncertainties or discontinuities, which make the task of managing R&D even more difficult. This book will examine these challenges and provide tools and methods to overcome them. Exploring such industries as automotive, healthcare, business intelligence, energy and home appliances, this book is a valuable resource for academics, scholars, professionals and leaders in innovation, R&D, technology, and engineering management.

Book R d Strategy Organisation Managing Technical Change In Dynamic Contexts

Download or read book R d Strategy Organisation Managing Technical Change In Dynamic Contexts written by Vittorio Chiesa and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-03-09 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with key issues and trade-offs in R&D strategy and organisation, paying attention especially to dynamic competitive contexts where technology plays a key role. These topics are treated from the perspective of the decision taker, i.e. the manager who makes decisions in terms of R&D strategy and organisation. The book addresses typical problems of large firms having structured R&D and operating businesses where R&D is a source of competitive advantages. Although it focuses strongly on R&D, it sees R&D as a part (a key part) of the process of technological innovation, and therefore as an activity to be strongly and appropriately integrated with other functions to make innovation successful. This book is primarily conceived as an academic review of research topics. Therefore the main audience is composed of scholars, researchers and PhD students. However, the book can be useful for postgraduate students taking MBA electives, or students attending courses on technology management. It is also relevant to R&D managers and, more generally, people responsible for units concerned with technological innovation.

Book Project Management for Research and Development

Download or read book Project Management for Research and Development written by Lory Mitchell Wingate and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s leading organizations recognize the importance of research and development (R&D) to maintain and grow market share. If companies want to survive into the future, they must accelerate their R&D-to-market cycles or find themselves behind the competition. Project Management for Research and Development: Guiding Innovation for Positive R&D Outcomes explains how to apply proven project management methods to obtain positive outcomes in R&D and innovation projects. It addresses the specific factors companies must consider when using project management to scope, define, and manage R&D projects. It also offers best practices and case studies that illustrate actual applications of theory. This book details methods to help readers optimize results in R&D through the use of structured processes derived from the project management field and other complementary disciplines. Each chapter includes diagrams, surveys, checklists, and question-answer forms to guide readers in determining where their activity falls along a project spectrum and to help them structure their own R&D project. The methods presented in this book can easily be applied to innovation projects and creative endeavors. As there are limited sources of information on how to utilize project management methodology effectively in these types of projects, this book is an ideal resource for anyone looking to add structure and proven methods to enable R&D, innovation, and other creative activities.
