Book Recent Trends in Animal Behaviour

Download or read book Recent Trends in Animal Behaviour written by Shakunthala Sridhara and published by Nipa. This book was released on 2023-07-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on animal behavior are vital for several reasons most importantly in connection with conservation, livestock and wildlife management, animal welfare, sustainable use of animal and human resources, and ultimately for better understanding of human behavior. In its formative stages, behavioral studies were mostly observational till the classic work of Lorenz, tin Bergen and Frisch catapulted them into Nobel laureates. This had a cascading effect on research on animal behavior resulting in intense studies in several areas of behavior mainly information acquisition (neuroethology) and transfer (communication), ecological aspects (habital related, foraging strategies, migration, predator-prey interactions, population ecology etc.), socio-biology (parent-filial interaction, co-operation & conflict, grouping & dispersion, social organization etc.) reproductive strategies, evolutionary aspects (kin selection, altruism, life history strategies etc.), physiology (behavioral endocrinology, rhythms, neurobiology) and applied behavior (conservation, animal welfare, livestock production, wild life management, man-animal conflict etc.

Download or read book Recent Trends in Animal Behaviour written by Archana Ruhela and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book explores the mechanisms and evolution of animal behaviour, including neural, hormonal, and genetic substrates of behaviour, foraging; anti-predator defences; mating systems and sexual selection; social behaviour; communication; parental care; kin selection and recognition; and territoriality. This thoroughly up-to-date text shows how evolutionary biologists analyse all aspects of behaviour. It is distinguished by its balanced treatment of both the evolutionary theory in unifying the different behavioural disciplines.

Book Recent Trends In Livestock Innovative Technologies

Download or read book Recent Trends In Livestock Innovative Technologies written by Hafiz Ishfaq Ahmad and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Trends in Livestock Innovative Technologies explores the most recent developments and developing trends in the livestock farming industry. The book delves into the application of innovative technologies in various aspects of livestock production, management, and health through edited chapters. The book starts with an outline of the difficulties the livestock sector faces and the necessity for technological solutions to these difficulties. Subsequent chapters cover innovations in this area. Key topics include: Advances in genetics and breeding methods: Contributing authors stress the possible impact of issues like marker-assisted selection, genomic selection, and gene editing on the future of animal breeding. Precision livestock farming: The use of sensor technologies, data analytics, and automation to monitor and control livestock production systems more effectively. The authors examine how these technologies enable real-time monitoring of environmental variables, animal activity, and health, which enhances production, animal welfare, and resource use. The management of feed and nutrition in livestock production: The book explores cutting-edge feed formulations, precise feeding systems, and alternative feed sources that can increase feed efficiency, lessen negative effects on the environment, and improve animal health. Fresh methods for illness prevention and management, such as the use of vaccines, diagnostics, and biosecurity measures. Social and ethical issues related to the adoption of cutting-edge livestock technologies. The authors attempt to give a fair assessment of the advantages and drawbacks of these technologies, and address concerns about animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and public perception of current farming practices. Recent Trends in Livestock Innovative Technologies is an informative resource for researchers, professionals, and policymakers interested in staying up-to-date with the advancements and future directions of the livestock industry.

Book Animal Behaviour A Very Short Introduction

Download or read book Animal Behaviour A Very Short Introduction written by Tristram D. Wyatt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How animals behave is crucial to their survival and reproduction. The application of new molecular tools such as DNA fingerprinting and genomics is causing a revolution in the study of animal behaviour, while developments in computing and image analysis allow us to investigate behaviour in ways never previously possible. By combining these with the traditional methods of observation and experiments, we are now learning more about animal behaviour than ever before. In this Very Short Introduction Tristram D. Wyatt discusses how animal behaviour has evolved, how behaviours develop in each individual (considering the interplay of genes, epigenetics, and experience), how we can understand animal societies, and how we can explain collective behaviour such as swirling flocks of starlings. Using lab and field studies from across the whole animal kingdom, he looks at mammals, butterflies, honeybees, fish, and birds, analysing what drives behaviour, and exploring instinct, learning, and culture. Looking more widely at behavioural ecology, he also considers some aspects of human behaviour. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.
