Book Recent Tests of QCD at SLD

Download or read book Recent Tests of QCD at SLD written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present selected results on strong interaction physics from the SLD experiment at the SLAC Linear Collider. We report on several new studies of 3- and 4-jet hadronic Z[sup 0] decays, in which jets are identified as quark, antiquark or gluon. The gluon energy spectrum is measured over the full kinematic range, providing an improved test of QCD and limits on anomalous bbg and bbg couplings. The parity violation in Z[sup 0][yields] b[bar b]g decays is consistent with electroweak theory plus QCD. New tests of T- and CP-conservation at the bbg vertex are performed. An improved measurement of the rate of gluon splitting into b[bar b] pairs yields g[sub b[bar b]]= 0.00244[+-] 0.00059(stat.)[+-] 0.00034(syst.). We also present a number of new results on jet fragmentation into identified hadrons. The B hadron energy spectrum is measured over the full kinematic range using a new, inclusive technique, allowing stringent tests of predictions for its shape and a precise measurement ofx[sub B]= 0.710[+-] 0.003(stat.)[+-] 0.006(syst.) (Preliminary). A detailed study of correlations in rapidity y between pairs of identified[pi][sup[+-]], K[sup[+-]] and p/[bar p] confirms that strangeness and baryon number are conserved locally, and shows local charge conservation between meson-baryon and strange-nonstrange pairs. Flavor-dependent long-range correlations are observed for all combinations of these hadron species, yielding new information on leading particle production. The first study of correlations using rapidities signed such that y 0 corresponds to the quark direction provides additional new insights into fragmentation, including the first direct observation of baryon number ordering along the q[bar q] axis.

Book excerpt: We present preliminary results on three SLD analyses: the gluon energy spectrum in 3-jet b[bar b]g events, the rate of g[r-arrow] b[bar b], and the b fragmentation function in Z[sup 0] decays. The gluon energy spectrum, measured over the full kinematic range, is compared with perturbative QCD predictions. We set new 95% C.L. limits on the anomalous chromomagnetic coupling of the b quark:[minus]0.09

Book Recent QCD Results from SLD

Download or read book Recent QCD Results from SLD written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present selected results on strong interaction physics from the SLD experiment at the SLAC Linear Collider. We report on several new studies of 3- and 4-jet hadronic Z° decays, in which jets are identified as quark, antiquark or gluon. The 3-jet Z° --> b anti-bg rate is sensitive to the b-quark mass; prospects for measuring m{sub b} are discussed. The gluon energy spectrum is measured over the full kinematic range, providing an improved test of QCD and limits on anomalous b anti-bg couplings. The parity violation in Z° --> b anti-bg decays is consistent with electroweak theory plus QCD. New tests of T- and CP-conservation at the bbg vertex are performed. A new measurement of the rate of gluon splitting into b anti-b pairs yields g{sub b anti-b} = 0.0031 " 0.0007 (stat.)" 0.0006 (syst.) (Preliminary). We also present a number of new results on jet fragmentation into identified hadrons. The B hadron energy spectrum is measured over the full kinematic range using a new, inclusive technique, allowing stringent tests of predictions for its shape and a precise measurement of (xB) = 0.714 " 0.005(stat.) " 0.007(syst.) (Preliminary). A detailed study of correlations in rapidity y between pairs of identified pi{sup {+-}}, K{sup {+-}} and p/anti-p confirms that strangeness and baryon number are conserved locally, and shows local charge conservation between meson-baryon and strange-nonstrange pairs. Flavor-dependent long-range correlations are observed for all combinations of these hadron species, yielding new information on leading particle production. The first study of correlations using rapidities signed such that y> 0 corresponds to the quark direction provides additional new insights into fragmentation, including the first direct observation of baryon number ordering along the q anti-q axis.

Book QCD Tests with SLD and Polarized Beams

Download or read book QCD Tests with SLD and Polarized Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of the strong coupling a{sub s} derived from multijet rates using data collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC and find that a{sub s}(M{sub Z}2) = 0.118 " 0.002(stat.) " 0.003(syst.) " 0.010(theory). The authors present tests of the flavor independence of strong interactions via preliminary measurements of the ratios a{sub s}(b)/a{sub s}(udse) and a{sub s}(uds)/a{sub s}(bc). In addition, the authors have measured the difference in charged particle multiplicity between Z° --> b{bar b} and Z° --> u{bar u}, d{bar d}, s{bar s} events, and find that it supports the prediction of perturbative QCD that the multiplicity difference be independent of center-of-mass energy. Finally, they have made a preliminary study of jet polarization using the jet handedness technique.

Book QCD Test in Three Jet Z0 Decays at SLD and Detector Development for H0 Gamma Gamma Searches in High Energy Hadron Colliders

Download or read book QCD Test in Three Jet Z0 Decays at SLD and Detector Development for H0 Gamma Gamma Searches in High Energy Hadron Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarized Z[sup 0] decays into three jets have been detected and measured in the SLD (SLAC Large Detector) experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The hadrons from the jets were detected in the SLD liquid argon calorimeter, providing a sensitivity over 98% of the solid angle. The spin of the gluon was tested by studying the scaled jet energies (x[sub 1], x[sub 2], x[sub 3]) the Ellis-Karliner angle (cos[theta][sub EK]) and the parameters of event plane orientation ([alpha], [alpha][sub N] [chi]). These measured variables are compared with quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and a scalar gluon model. Good agreement is found between data and the vector QCD model for the distributions of x[sub 1], x[sub 2], x[sub 3] and cos[theta][sub EK].
